Days passed and nothing interesting had happened yet. Perhaps there were still some interesting things that Skydancers could do in Allegro but that only applied to the lower-ranked Skydancers. To high levels like he, Ruki and even Hyena! Allegro was an overly peaceful country and there might never be anything that would change that fact.
Or so he thought...
"HUGOOOOO!"
Hyena's deep voice boomed from upstairs down to Hugo who was all the way in the kitchen grabbing a cup of coffee.
Hugo sipped on his cup of coffee, ignoring Hyena and decided he would not speak to him from all the way downstairs and instead, he had to come down and converse over breakfast like a normal person.
"Why aren't you answering me!" Hyena asked, but this time it was from halfway down the staircase. Hugo's sups intensified and Hyena had no choice but to come downstairs and talk normally.
"Ugh So... Hugo. Is this what you needed?"
Hyena huffed angrily and adjusted the towel that was barely covering his torso.
"Hmph, much better." Hugo put his cup down and looked at Hyena as if it was the first time hearing his voice that morning.
"Anyway, I logged onto the Skynet this morning and check out what I found."
Hyena turned on his communicator's holographic screen feature and gestured towards it.
"Okay, let's see... World Government blah blah blah announces Biennial re-ranking event blah blah, and it's being held in... Allegro!?"
'When did this happen? When was this announced? When is it happening?' Thousands of questions raced through Hugo's teenage mind and they urgently demanded answers.
"I know right?!" Hyena exclaimed in the same frequency of excitement as he.
"All right. Finally, a real challenge!"
Hugo bobbed his head to an imaginary tune and felt more refreshed than he'd ever felt before in his life.
You might wonder: 'Why are these two idiots so excited?'. Well, chill because they're coming to that.
"I can't believe it either. This is the first time since they created Allegro, and that was over fifty years ago!" Hyena exclaimed for what Hugo inferred might have been the hundredth time that day.
"Why'd they do this exactly? Could this be some conspiracy to take over our beloved nation, Allegro?"
Hyena shook his head in disappointment at the boy's supposed genius-level intellect. A teenager was a teenager after all. No matter how he saw it, there was no way teenage boys wouldn't eat that kind of stuff up.
"Stop thinking like a fool. It seems they're finally making an exception to the law that states: No international Skydancer event shall be held in Allegro."
"Damn, you know your stuff."
Hugo whistled slightly and took another sip of his coffee, his mood dying down slowly.
"Yeah, I studied law and have to keep studying it to make sure I don't break some crazy and stupid law made by the World Government."
Hugo nodded understandingly, he had heard of more than one organization and company being shut down just because they broke some stupid laws.
As soon as Hyena said what he said, Hugo fell into a train of deep thought. At first, it was in line with what Hyena said but further onwards it began diverting from the original point.
'Could it be that they're really making changes to the law, or something else? I don't even see the point of this re-shuffle event, anyway. It's just a bullshit contest made by some old-ass men sitting in a room! But all Skydancers seem to like this kind of bull crap; fighting against each other to get some points and cashing those points in for higher ranks and in turn, larger paychecks.'
'These are the kinds of things I hate. Those bastards are meant to protect the world from the menace of monsters and criminals with unwavering loyalties, hearts of steel and a sense of justice, uncorrupted by the sight of money. But no! Everyone's goal this day is to earn money in whatever way they can and live the good life while they still can.'
'However, it won't be long till I purge this world of its ills and show them all what holiness and justice are all about!'
Some might think Hugo's mindset was filled with naivety, but those very people had probably never touched blood in their entire lives, whereas, Hugo... he was no different from a criminal himself.
"So, are you going to sign up?" Hyena broke the silence between them by asking a much-expected question.
"Oh? Of course, I am." Hugo lazily looked up from his cup of coffee and responded with shining eyes.
"Alright, lemme go dress up first." Hyena bolted back upstairs without another word.
It took a few minutes for Hyena to be done.
"Okay, I'm ready now. We can get going."
It was also when Hyena finished his cup of coffee, and with a refreshed, energized feeling, he and Hyena set out to register for what might be the only fun thing in Allegro.
The two hopped on their hovercycles and drove towards the closest Skydancer Centre.
On the way there, Hugo realized a lot of things. The first was that his handsomeness had not diminished in the slightest, the second was him forgetting to brush his teeth that morning, but for some reason, it smelt as normal as ever. And last was why Satoshi was bothering himself with coming back to visit after more than five years.
'That bastard must be here for the competition! Not only that, he definitely knows I;m going to compete and he's probably been holding back from ascending the rankings just to show it off in my face!'
No doubt, this sounded like a far-fetched scenario; something out of a Chinese novel. But, unfortunately for Hugo, it was not the case. Satoshi was arrogant, but not the same sort of arrogance Hyena and Hugo gave off. His was... different.
Satoshi was born with a superiority complex; he felt better than most of his peers and even people older than him.
Even with Hugo's god-like ego (and abilities), Satoshi still did not revere or fear him, instead, Satoshi found it amusing to see Hugo trying to impose his will unto him.
'Che, freaking bastard.'
So... to sum it up; Hugo was a child.
