Chapter 20 - Music

NOTE: This chapter might seem confusing to the vast majority because of the abrupt introduction of certain elements, but it will make sense in further chapters.

"Now, suit guys, tell me who's your boss? I can't be caught fighting weaklings, it'd damage my reputation of killing weaklings... so tell me, who's your boss and where is he?"

Hugo smiled amicably, looking at the men in the suit.

"Humph. Leave this to me!" One of the suit guys in a comedic bunny mask harrumphed and stepped forward.

His demeanour contained a vast arrogance and a loud boisterousness. He had this force within him that seemed to be exuded with every step of his foot and every word from his mouth.

No one uttered a single word when he stepped onto the battlefield to fight this youth, they couldn't predict the outcome of this battle, no matter how hard they squinted or looked.

"Come at me, you old man!"

Hugo was not letting off either and issued a direct challenge towards the man in the bunny mask. Though boisterous, the bunny man was not complacent, if anything he was far from that.

"I will let you swing first youngster!"

He adopted his role as an "old man" and let Hugo take the first move, which was always the deciding factor in a battle whether for bad or for worse

To Hugo who had been looking for nothing more than to fight real people, this upcoming battle was like a musical piece in the making.

Ugh!

He swung the first punch that seemed like hitting the first key on a piano, and the opponent struck back with a clean sweep like swiping the bow against a violin. The two connoisseurs of the art duke it off in what seemed to be an artistic display rather than a fight.

"Come and face me properly, old man!"

Hugo gave a feint left jab towards his opponent and a sweeping kick as the real attack.

"Isn't that what I'm doing!"

Hugo had always been a music connoisseur, especially classical music, and he'd not been able to listen to the kind of music he preferred at all during these exams, he only thought it to bring his professional communicator where he kept things for work and other stuff, his personal communicator was sitting at home lying on his desk.

"This burning passion, embrace it, my child, perhaps you'll never feel like this ever again!"

The old man in the bunny mask spoke towards Hugo mid-battle and jumped into the air to axe kick Hugo.

"Of course, old man I will cherish this with my heart and soul, it feels amazing, I can hear the music rushing through, coming into every part of my being but my ears!"

His blood rushed and he couldn't help himself, baring whatever the power had to offer, he called upon its- no their power.

"Black Matter Conjuring- Zephyr!" He called out, deep within his soul and asked a bit of their strength for usage.

Hugo tilted his head slightly like one would do when holding a violin o and held an imaginary object in his other hand. All the candidates, male and female alike watched as a graceful and sleek instrument manifested within his fingers.

The strings on the violin looked fragile like it wouldn't last past a normal intensity play and the bow looked okay, but still able to cut the strings. The body of the violin was a dark colour, similar to obsidian, it looked shiny like the maker put views on aesthetics instead.

The instrument was dark and sleeker than a normal violin would look like; it had a graceful and lithe body that looked like it'd been created for a girl, but either way, on Hugo's shoulder, that was where it belonged.

Hugo smiled at the old man in the rabbit mask and felt him smile back.

"Young man, I like your style, what's its name?"

"I call her Zephyr."

"Zephyr, wonderful name. Do you want to see mine, it's not as flashy looking like yours, but she can still pack a punch."

The old man spoke and untied the case of something from behind his back. He carefully opened the case and brought out its contents.

"Beautiful isn't she, I call her Grace."

He held up the violin and admired it lovingly, like a father to his child.

The violin was nothing to scoff at; it was as aesthetically pleasing as Hugo's Zephyr. The body bore a black and white colour, but the bow of the violin was dark in colour.

The strings of the violin were white and the contrast of the black bow swiping against the white strings gave Hugo a chill just thinking about it.

"Hyena, you and the other finish of the minions, I already have an audience with the boss of this operation."

Hugo tilted his head towards Hyena and instructed him on what to do.

"I must warn you, old man. Zephyr can be very greedy."

The man in the bunny mask didn't understand what he meant by that, but he kept it in his mind.

"Now, shall we begin young man?"

Hugo and the old man carefully pulled the bow from the violin, placed their chins on the rest, and then began playing without caring about the surroundings.

A whirling storm brewed right between Hugo and the man in the bunny mask, literally, they're playing called upon the forces of nature and gave them the ability to control these forces.

Hum Hum Hum Hum!

If not for the destruction and fighting caused by the music, people would definitely fall into its trap and think this was somewhere they could afford to stay in.

Hugo fiercely struck the bow against the strings and formed an erratic song that followed no set pattern or tempo, if musical experts were here to listen to his sound, they would have nothing to say, because while he broke some musical rules, the sound in itself had meaning to it.

A gust of wind blew around Hugo's body as if dancing to his music and following the nonexistent rhythm.

'His melody!'

The old man opposite Hugo quickly realized what kind of song this was and smilingly played his violin. Contrary to Hugo's violin, his score was not erratic nor tempestuous, it was more of a calm and ever-orderly piece of music.

It moved like the earth, stable and not constantly moving.

It was like a scene out of a movie, two men under the heavens playing two different musical scores, opposing each other overwhelmingly.

The earth tremored, and the wind danced.

Age is the only thing separating these two men. And it was only they who would know the secret behind each other's stories.
