Evan drank his bottled iced tea while sitting in the campus cafeteria. The plate in front of him was empty. Because of his stupid dad, he was late and was kicked out by his lecturer. He also came hungry because he didn't have time to eat breakfast, so he had to sacrifice his allowance to eat, even though he was saving up to buy something. He could come back and eat at home, but that would be too much trouble and could make him late for the next class. At first, he held back until at least lunchtime, but his stomach rumbled
Sighing from being bored all this time by himself, Evan leaned his back against the chair. His eyes accidentally caught the bulge in his pants pocket. It was his cell phone that was put in there.
Evan stopped drinking his iced tea. An absurd question crossed his head. His cellphone can transform into a humanoid being, does she have a sense of smell? If so, isn't it dangerous for the girl to be near Evan's male part?
Slowly, Evan took his cellphone out of his pants pocket, moving it into his shirt pocket.
There was a bustle of students who came to the cafeteria for breakfast, between them, Evan saw two of his best friends. The girl, named Kara, was slender with curly reddish hair in a ponytail. One is Shane, a dark-skinned man with short hair.
"Evaaan, why were you so late!?" The girl jogged over to Evan, sat down next to him, and put her arm around his neck. "Is it because you stayed up late watching porn?"
Evan didn't respond. Kara is always like that, she loves to stick with Evan, even though that clearly creates misunderstandings among the students. In fact, many are talking about why a girl as beautiful as Kara wants to pair up with the ordinary-looking Evan.
"In the class, Mr. Robert is talking about you. He said you were a student who behaved badly and was not worthy of being an example," Shane said. He then sat in front of Evan. "The word late is ingrained in you, but you're never too late for more than half an hour like that, Evan."
"Last night I came across an interesting story about a town in Wales called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllantysiliogogogoch, Shane. I learned how to spell that name until I couldn't sleep," Evan answered casually.
Evan did learn to spell the town's name when he was bored, but he had already done it a few weeks ago.
"If you have time to do that, you better do the more important things!" Kara grunted and pinched Evan's waist.
Evan winced and grimaced in pain. "Ouch! Your pinching hurts, you know! It's like a crab hand!"
Kara stuck out her tongue.
"You guys really aren't dating?" A tall man suddenly appeared near them and asked. Evan knows who he is. He is Kevin, a handsome upperclassman who becomes an idol of female students because his face looks like a K-pop artist.
Kara laughed as she continued to hug Evan's neck.
"No, we're not dating," said the girl.
"We're not dating, but I'm her slave," Evan said carelessly and he had to feel Kara's pinch on his waist a second time.
The upperclassman laughed. "Well, you guys look very close, though."
Evan was really uncomfortable with this conversation. Being that close to a girl certainly affected the young man's feelings. He already likes Kara ever since junior high. Even now, Evan's heart continues to beat when he is near Kara. It wasn't that Evan couldn't express his feelings. Kara is too ignorant. She always thinks that the expression of Evan's feelings is just a joke. The girl always slapped, punch, and even kicked Evan while laughing after he expressed his feelings.
Evan had actually tried to stay away, but the girl always clung to him. Even want to approach other girls, but he is hindered by his closeness to Kara. The girls couldn't believe that Evan and Kara weren't dating.
Shane said that's the ultimate friend zone. Troublesome and painful friend zone.
"Can I help you, Kevin?" Kara asked her senior.
The senior named Kevin gave a big smile. "How do we invite you to join the student council ..."
"Sorry, but I'm still not interested," Kara replied straightforwardly, but still with a friendly tone and a smile.
"Have you thought about it? A girl as smart as you is definitely needed by student councils .... "
"I've thought about it and decided not to come," Kara interrupted again.
Evan chuckled. "You are wrong, Kevin. This gorilla girl scores at the bottom of her entrance test. He's not smart at all ... Ugh! "
Evan held his stomach which Kara had just knocked hard. The girl's power is equal to that of a man. Evan wondered if Kara's slim body was actually full of muscles.
Kevin laughed. "Don't be modest, Kara."
"But, that's right, I'm not that smart." Kara sighed.
"Eh?"
Seeing Kevin who was speechless, Kara widened her smile and turned to her two male friends. "There was a group assignment from Mr. Robert. One group consists of three people. As usual, we're a group, right? We'll do it at Evan's house this afternoon."
"We'll do it when it's close to the deadline," Evan replied lazily.
Kara grumbled. "No, we have to do it as soon as possible, so that later we won't be in a hurry!"
"But, we can't just take it from the internet. There must be references from books, at least half of them," Shane explained.
Evan gave Kara a knowing smile. "As usual, you will definitely contribute very little. I assign you to find the reference source in the campus library."
"Huh!" Kara puffed up her cheeks. "Okay, okay. Spending time in the library will definitely make me smarter too."
"Aah, but it doesn't matter, really. We will continue to welcome you to the student council, Kara." Finally, Kevin was able to speak. However, his tone showed that he was embarrassed.
Got rejection again from Kara, Kevin finally said goodbye and left there.
"A fool like me would be bullied if joined the student council," Kara complained while looking at Kevin, who kept moving away.
"I'm surprised. There are still those who think that appearance is equal to ability," Shane said.
Kara got on her hips and puffed her cheeks again. "What do you mean, Shane!?"
Back in high school, Kara was bullied at the student council. However, it is not because of Kara's intelligence level, but because of Kara's attractive appearance. Many students, especially seniors, are jealous of Kara. They know that Kara was recruited only because of her beauty. Evan wondered why Kara didn't notice it. When she was told, she denied it all the time.
"Huh." Even though his face was frowning, Shane still took a power bank out of his bag and gave it to Evan.
"Don't be a cheapskate." Evan chimed in, then plugged the power bank cable into his cell phone.
"Ahnnn ...." A sigh came from Evan's cellphone.
Evan's body froze. Even though he didn't look around, he could tell the people in the cafeteria were watching him. He hurriedly unplugged the power bank cable from his cellphone.
"Nghhh ..." The sigh came again, but this time with a different tone. Evan looked up to find his two friends staring at him, gawking. When he looked around, he could see people looking at him curiously.
"Aah, this must be my dad's prank." Evan laughed stiffly. His face began to feel hot with embarrassment.
When he looked at his cellphone screen again, he saw an apology written on it.
