The most attractive and certainly the most expensive book in this village were lying on the table. It was quite large, but not because there was a lot of text, just the cover of the book alone was most of it, the pages were also quite thick and the font was not small. Although I didn't understand a damn thing about the magic of this world, it was clear even to me that this books has some of that magic inside. On the front cover of the book there was a beautiful rune, putting your hand on it you could see your status, and only the one who touched the rune could see it.

There was also an empty list of skills and abilities.

After touching the rune, this very small rune appeared on my wrist, in the future there will be no need for me to touch the book and I will be able to check my status at any time.

Comparing the entries in the book with my status, it became clear that my status is no different from any other person who has not reached the 1st level. Regardless of the different physiques of people, usually all parameters at the zero level are 8, and only when they reach the first level, people can choose a class and get a solid increase in characteristics to choose from, thereby fully becoming a part of the class system of this world. For example, intelligence does not actually make a person smarter, it just increases all the skills and coefficients associated with this parameter. It is assumed that there are at least 30+ levels.

My personality should be more or less accurate to lawful neutral. I considered myself a law-abiding person, at least in a daylight and provided that this very law protected myself. Well, between good and evil, I did not see much difference at all, these concepts are too subjective for each person.

The local "librarian" Raf was a creepy old man and devoured me with his eyes, his face was twisted, even though I read and rewrote the book and did not look at him, I knew that he wanted to kill me with a glance just because I touched his treasure with my dirty fingers.

Of course, this book was not his treasure, it belonged to the human kingdom and a copy of this book was in every library and not only. I recently learned that in the old days all this knowledge was secret and every living creature made its own way through class system blindly. But one day the great sorcerer Tarrister came to rule and personally created this book, distributing it to every human settlement. He had to shed a lot of blood to shut up all who resisted, but apparently at that time he had no rivals. According to the law, this information should be available to everyone and librarians had no right to charge a fee for viewing.

Since then, centuries have passed and the sorcerer has long died, the new king and nobles tried to repeal the law and remove all relevant books, but obviously they did not achieve much success and spat on this matter. Still, if absolutely every person knew this information, then in order to hide it, almost all of humanity would have to be cut out. While there may have been other reasons, I have nothing to complain about anyway.

It was a kind of manual with general information on the class system of this world, a fairly detailed manual.

It is not known exactly when the class system appeared, but I learned that there were dark times before and shortly after. Peasants and ordinary people could hardly survive under the taxes of local lords and the church, if they managed not to die from starving, it was considered a happiness. Since class system appeared in this world things began to improve. The peasants could cultivate more land and the productivity of all types of labor increased, moreover, their fighting efficiency also improved slightly and life became easier. Even ordinary people have the opportunity to pay attention to things like art and hygiene. Of course, not everything is clear, but overall I was lucky that I did not appear here in dark times.

This world was completely different from my previous one. I got here just a week ago. In my past life, I did not stand out in any way, and it also ended without much meaning, I don't want to tell any particular details, consider that I was hit by a truck.

This village was called Hill and was subordinated to the nearest city of Rent, which was accordingly part of the human kingdom of Arun. Human kingdom, because there were many other races in this world, but racism was considered the norm. People lived with people, orcs with orcs and so on. Of course, there may be exceptions, but the general trend is just that.

Of course, I was quite surprised when I got here, but I certainly wasn't upset. I didn't have much success in my past life, so I didn't mind starting again at the age of 14, to put it mildly. In my past life, even before I came of age, I had many opportunities to do and achieve anything, for example, football or boxing. But despite i was not even 18 y.o I thought I was too old to start such a career or commit myself to anything and was always indecisive. Then I became 25 y.o and I was upset that i missed my chance then I was 18 y.o. Many years later, remembering my 25th birthday, I regretted that in those years I had enough brains only to regret the past, but not to do anything in the present, and so on. I suspect that I am far from the only one and many people regret the past in one way or another.

At first, I hoped that in this world I would have some advantage, like the same class system only personal, but now I already knew that I was no different from the locals.

In my past life, I was not particularly attractive and hoped that I would be more lucky in this one, but there was nothing to be proud of, my face was not too different from the locals, and their faces were mostly so-so. Well, at least I'm healthy and thanks for that.

The family was part of the lower class. My father disappeared a couple of years ago. The mother's name was Marie, and in addition to cultivating the lord's land to pay taxes, she worked as a laundress for the Harris family. They were not wealthy, but were considered a middle-class family around here, so they could afford a couple of servants for a pittance. Although I heard that they disdain to let Marie into their house, which is not surprising. The mother of the former Jack was far from a gift, and after her husband dissapeared it did not get better. When I first came into contact with her after I found myself in this body, she hit me with such a slap that I thought my head would fly off my shoulders and completely lost my orientation in space. I thought I was used to being beaten by my parents in a past life, but now I knew that they were just stroking me. The current mother was at the second level and obviously did not stint to add attributes to strength, she was a pretty strong woman.

I did not feel hatred or resentment towards her. Perhaps I would be upset if I had no idea about the reasons for her behavior or if I appreciated family ties overall or this woman in particular. But in this world I did not take relatives seriously, and even if she was kind and sympathetic, it would hardly have changed. In any case, her life was not very sweet and at 36 she looked more like 50 or close. Not only did she lose her husband, her son was also a useless goof, well, at least judging by what I learned this week. I was considered a bit of an idiot and a troublemaker. I had no memories of the previous owner of the body, but at the same time I knew the local language on an instinctive level and could even read some words. I was considered an idiot because I was out of control and useless, I shirked work and cheated, and I was often rude and got into fights. She tried to push me to work in the forge, library, to the same Harrisons and so on, but I was driven from everywhere with a shovel because there were more problems than benefits. In general, an ordinary fool. Well then I say that I was a fool I mean previous Jack of course.

In addition to my mother, I had an older brother, Derek, who was 18, not so long ago he reached the first level and chose the Bard class. He was fond of music for a long time and it seemed to be good for him. This kingdom had its own achievements in art, but music was highly valued, both among the nobility and among the lower classes. This is because it was music that was one of the directions that were part of the class system of this world. Derek received the appropriate skill and his music slightly lifted the mood of people in a certain radius in some magical way. Well, experienced Bards could increase many important stats and strengthen a whole squad, so they were considered both a fighting class and buffers in aggregate.

And finally, I had a younger sister, Anna, she was 10 years old. An ordinary little girl with big fearful eyes. Apparently in the past, I often mocked her because she was afraid of me, but she adored Derek. Three children in a family were not considered a lot. On average, 3-4 children per family was a common norm.

Most of the information I found out from the local punks, they are friends of the former Jack. Although they also laughed at me and looked at me strangely because of stupid questions, but apparently they are used to the fact that I often suffer from bullshit or something, so more often they just played along by answering questions. At first, I was worried that the changes in me would lead to negative consequences, but I quickly realized that everyone simply did not care about me so I was slowly but steady getting used to this world.
