Marie fell hard on the ground in pain. She had not noticed the man who she bumped into yet. Not that Marie wanted to anyway. All she wanted was to get an apology and be left to run home quickly before something awful happened. That was if it was not already too late.
Before looking up towards the man, Marie silently prayed that it was not a criminal. "Please don't be a criminal, please don't be a criminal," she thought over and over. Her day had already been awful. Was she that unlucky as to make it worse?
But once again, as luck would have it, she couldn't have been more wrong. Marie finally looked at the person standing above her, and her eyes widened in fear. She slowly took in all the details. Black attire, a mask covering half of his face, gloves, messy light brown hair, and a defined muscular body, oh God no.
She gasped as she recognized the man standing above her. To her luck, the man she bumped into was the worse man in all of Canada. Recently on the news for both killing and stealing, before her stood the most wanted criminal in all of Canada, the infamous Shadow Cat.
Shadow gritted his teeth as the police sirens got louder and louder with every passing second. Shadow Cat knew they would be here soon, and he was trapped. His eyes widened as he saw the red and blue lights approaching. Patrol cars surrounded him in a matter of seconds.
What could he do at this point? Should he run and most likely get shot to death or turn himself in. Never in a million years did he think he would come close to getting caught. No! No matter what happened here tonight, he would not allow himself to be arrested and unmasked.
Shadow Cat mentally cursed. He had almost had it perfect. If only he would have run immediately after shooting instead of waiting. It was attempting to show off what had got him hurt. Now he was slower than usual, and to his luck, he bumped into a dumb girl.
Shadow quickly thought of a plan. He smirked evilly at the approaching cop cars. He would do what any other criminal would do. He would use the girl.
Using his incredible strength, he grabbed her arm and pulled her up, placing her body in front of him like a shield. He then pulled out his knife and held it close to her neck. The officers quickly got out of their vehicles and pointed the weapons towards the wanted criminal standing in front.
"Lower the weapon, get away from the girl, and put your hands in the air," Captain Morris yelled, earning only a laugh from Shadow Cat. "I'm afraid I can't do that. Now I suggest you let us go, or this pretty young lady gets it." Marine was afraid for her life. She never imagined being in a situation like this before. Marie allowed tears to spill from her eyes.
She was sure this would be the last night of her life. Oh, how life was truly unfair to her. She had no friends, no free time, no love, and now no future. She would never experience love, never have a family of her own, never achieve her dreams, and never have a career, nothing. It was soon to be all gone. "Please don't kill me," her voice cracked as she silently cried.
Shadow Cat was taken back by the soft, sweet, and beautiful voice of the young lady. He was sure he had heard it before. But now was not the time to focus on that. He needed to focus on his escape if he wanted to make it out of this alive.
"Back off now, or I promise I will kill her!" Shadow yelled, placing the knife closer to her neck, drawing a bit of blood. Marie whimpered as the blade was pressed deeper into her neck. She was surprised to feel him loosen the knife upon her whimper as if it was not his intention to harm her.
His actions only confused her greatly. Shadow Cat was known never to hesitate, but something about this girl's voice was getting to him. He silently wished he had looked at her face closer. Her voice was so familiar, so loving, and one he hoped to hear for the rest of his life. What was wrong with him? Of course, this wasn't her.
But even then, Shadow Cat somehow knew that he didn't wish to hurt her. But that didn't mean he would let her go as he needed to escape. The police did not doubt that Shadow Cat would kill the innocent young girl. Captian Morris hesitated. They had Shadow cat in their hands, but that meant the girl would most likely get hurt. The death of an innocent young girl would only cause rage in the city. If there was one thing the citizens would not tolerate is for the police to place the lives of innocent civilians at risk for their selfish gain.
Therefore they had to comply with the criminal. "Fine! We will put out weapons down but, you must let go of the girl." Captain Morris called. "Mm, I think I'll hang on to her until I'm sure I am safe," Shadows replied with a smirk. With that, he took the girl and began walking backward, facing the guards.
Shadow Cat made sure to get away quickly but was aware that he needed to stop soon. He was in a great deal of pain, and he desperately needed to rest. His adrenaline had now ended, and the pain had taken over. If he didn't arrive home soon and covered his wound, he was sure to pass out in the street.
The rain poured harder with each passing minute making it even harder for him to walk and fight the excruciating pain. It was clear his body was getting weaker by the second. He wondered if this could be the end of him.
