Chapter 49 - Jack Should Change His Name

Amelia sounds like she is glad that Jack has decided to take a look at the "Legend" she is looking for. Jack stands in the park, waiting for Amelia to send a text back.

Jack wanted to contact Amelia as soon as possible, because he worries that he had offended Amelia earlier.

Jack knows he is kind of abandoning Nitte. But, Nitte is the most powerful being in entire North America-- which she said so herself-- so, there really isn't anything that's going to harm her. He doesn't need to worry about her.

Since Nitte is so proud of her powers, why did she even need him to cover for her anyway? She'd better not try to implicate him or frame him for theft.

Amelia finally sends a text message back and says, "sent many files to you, check your e-mail. Don't ask me how I know your e-mail. I just know."

"OK. I will do that when I get back," Jack is excited now.

Because everything he has been doing so far came from someone else's order. And now, Jack thinks he is onto something and he is personally curious about it, not because someone else asks him to do it. He remembers Jie Ai telling him that one of the senior citizens in Flushing was talking about seeing a ghost. And then, Amelia says she needs to find a "Legend" who was able to keep coming back to carry out missions like he would never die. So he believes this is connected and he should investigate. It would be interesting to meet a ghost / a legend.

Just then, Jack hears police car sirens blaring. Uh oh.

Two uniformed cops rush out of the patrol vehicle and run towards a house. Is that the house that Nitte goes into? He didn't see where she was going earlier.

"Hands up!" One cop draws his gun.

Jack now has to decide if he should intervene.

But then Nitte slowly walks out of the house. Nitte stares at Jack.

What the hell, Nitte? How the hell did she get herself spotted? Could you not use some mind control power or something?

Nitte laughs coarsely, she slowly raises her skinny hands up to her chest, "You can't shoot an unarmed citizen. I didn't do anything."

"You are breaking and entering. The house owner just reported you. Put your hands behind your head, now!"

"Calm down. I like your uniform, officer."

"Put your hands behind your head, do as I say," The cop shouts again.

"What's going on?" Jack decides he will step in. He doesn't want Nitte in trouble. Why? He doesn't know. Maybe because he was supposed to help her and he suddenly called it off? But why does he have to help her. Oh well.

"Oh, hello, sir." Nitte smiles, revealing sharp teeth.

The other cop who is not pointing a gun at Nitte then grabs Nitte's arms and puts handcuffs on her. Nitte sniffs him again.

"Oh, this officer smells so good."

The cop is now stunned and curious at the same time. But both cops are still clear-headed enough and puts Nitte in their car.

"Why are you guys taking her away though?" Jack asks, "Did anyone witness she is the one breaking and entering?"

One cop is surprised that Jack asks that, "Well, who are you?"

Jack shows his NYPD badge, "Just a fellow officer here."

The cop nods, "Well, the house owner describe a thin female with dark hair..."

"That could be anyone. You don't have to arrest her."

But Nitte pokes her head out of the police car, "Officer, I can teach you some magic tricks. You kind of look like you've got potentials."

Um, what the F*? Because Nitte said something basically the same to him when they first met. Even the "Oh you smell good part" was the same. Now Nitte is saying this to someone else? How many times has she said this to people? To strangers?

"So, you want to join me and do something cool outside of your job? It would be so fun! We would have a good time! I am a queen of fun." Nitte winks and blows a kiss.

The two cops look at each other, confused. They also seem to be a little be intimidated by Nitte. The wild and sexy look in her eyes.

"Ma'am, I'm going to ask you to not speak now. If I were you, I would remain silent. If you say any more things that sound like you try to proposition yourself or bribe us, you will be charge with other crimes." One cop says.

Jack quickly approaches them, "Actually, you guys, let me take over this," Jack says with one hand out.

"I will take her down to the precinct. I'm going there right now anyway. This individual might not be in her right mind, and I work with Narcs and VICE sometimes, maybe I'll talk to them about this female. Let me take her off your hands," Jack pats on one cop on his back.

"OK, that's fine then." Both cops tip their hats a little towards Jack. "Have a good night then, pal," the cops open the car door and let Nitte out.

And then the two cops drive away.

"Nitte, what the hell?" Jack asks, frowning. "How did you even get seen? Could you not use one of your powers?"

"Are you asking me? I'm trying to show you the consequence of ditching me halfway and breaking your promise to me. You were supposed to help me."

"You didn't call the cops on yourself just to make me feel bad, did you?"

"I am not going to answer that."

"Come on, you know you can do everything on your own just fine. You are super powerful. And I am here still." Jack kicks the dirt.

"That's not the point. You said you would come with me." Nitte now actually looks genuinely upset, not just pretending to be huffy but cutesy, like she would sometimes. There seems to even be tears glistening in her eyes.

"Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't know this is such a big deal."

"You are a jerk, Jack. You should change your name to Jackass. And you are going to regret being a jackass to me." Nitte points at him, "You telling me that you won't save me if both me and Amelia are drowning. You've only just met her. But you've known me longer, and still you wouldn't save me. I've been nice to you."

"My gosh, Nitte. That was just a silly question you asked. Don't take it so seriously!" Jack tries to reach one of his hands out to her to give her a pat, but she backs away.

"Until you start to care for me like a real person, I will not speak to you again. I can always teach other people and have them help me. Think about if you really want to pass the opportunity to someone else."

"I'm sorry, Nitte. Did you get the fox tail yet?"

"I have the tail now, and I have also snatched one of your belongings. You jackass!"

And in an instant, Nitte becomes a mouse, and the handcuffs drop to the ground. The mouse bolts and disappears into the grass.

"Nitte! What did you take from my apartment?"

Of course, Nitte is gone now.

Jack cusses and kicks the grass.
