Chapter 15 - Not Good Because He's Good

Jack drives Nikazzi's car and brings both Nikazzi and Kathy to a police station. He tells the police there that he happens to come across a shocking admission from the prosecutor. He shows the police his recording and uses AirDrop to send copies to the officers.

Jack is sure that Bob did not expect that he could take care of both Carson Nikazzi and Kathy Mason on the same day. Jack hopes they can testify against each other later.

Bob also didn't predict that there would be a stranger suddenly showing up at Kathy's apartment. The stranger seems to know that Jack has been beating up people in dark alleys.

The stranger has driven his own car and followed Jack to the police station. When Jack walks out of the station, he waves at Jack from inside his car.

"Hey, we need to talk." The stranger shouts from across the street.

"I know. Where at?" Jack answers as he walks towards his car.

"Let's go find a gun range. Let's shoot and talk."

"Um…," Jack finds this suggestion odd, "Gun range is not a good place to talk. It's going to be very noisy, don't you think?"

"Exactly. So it's hard for you to record me." The stranger has a knowing smile. "So, don't try to record me. I won't record you, either. The only thing I used on you is the bug, which is only in your car."

Jack is impressed how careful this guy is, like he is experienced in this kind of situation. "OK. I guess we can do that. What is your name?"

"Keith Hutchins. You?"

"You don't know my name, really? I'm not saying I'm famous. I'm just saying I'm pretty sure you know who I am, that's why you follow me."

"Ah. You are smarter than I think," Keith laughs. "OK, Jack Wolf. I know your name."

"Good. Let's drop the act."

"Fine by be. Get in," Keith gestures the inside of his car, inviting Jack, "I'll drop you off where you parked your car and you can follow me to the gun range."

"No, it's OK. My car is actually not that far from here. I'm just going to walk to my car. Tell me what gun range you want to go."

"I'll text it to you. Phone number?" Keith asks.

Jack tells Keith his number, and Keith immediately sends him a link.

"The address is on their webpage. I'll meet you there. Unless you change your mind. In that case, text me." Keith then rolls up his car window and drives away.

Jack walks to his car. He then remembers that Keith Hutchins tells him, this car has been bugged. Jack opens the car door, tries to find the bug. He pads his seat down, trying to feel if there's anything sticking out or if there's any concealed recording device attached to his clothing. He doesn't find anything. He wants to call Bob but of course not inside the car. Otherwise Keith will hear him.

Jack texts Bob:

"Do you know a Keith Hutchins?"

Jack starts the car and plugs the address to the gun range on the GPS app.

Jack finds it ironic that his own police gun just got taken away, and now this guy wants him to shoot some bullets with him.

Suddenly, Jack's phone starts ringing. Jack decides to quickly steps outside the car. He even runs away from the car. Just in case the monitoring device can still pick up his phone conversation from a distance.

"Hello, before you say anything, just FYI, someone has bugged me," Jack warns.

"Um..., OK. Can I ask, who this Keith Hutchins you are talking about?" Bob asks.

"I don't know. That's why I'm asking you. Search in the police records for me, will you? That's what you do all day long anyway."

"OK. Why do you need to know about him?"

"He seems to know I've been beating the crap out of people. He said he'd like to know how I do my other cases. I assume that's what he meant. He's followed me around to where the prosecutor Carson Nikkazzi was and where that woman Kathy Mason was."

Bob goes quiet, probably out of shock.

Jack continues, "I just know, if he is our enemy, it will not be good." Jack sighs, "Because this guy is good…. If that makes sense."

"I'll let you know. I'll look this name up," Bob says.

"Hey, just for safety reason, I'm going to send you the address where I'm going now. This guy wants to talk to me at a shooting range."

"Great. Show him how good you are at shooting."

"I guess."

Jack then drives out of city to an unfamiliar place. The scenery has changed from tall skyscrapers to lower level buildings. And then the buildings look older and older as he drives closer to the gun range.

And it's very likely Keith Hutchins is an expert in using the gun, too.

Jack doesn't want any incident during his administrative leave, A.K.A. suspension. He still wants his job back.

But he doesn't know, Keith has a plan for him.
