Chereads / Never Cross The Shield / Chapter 9 - Risk

Chapter 9 - Risk

"It is better to give me a fair reason for this call, Bo Wong." Ai almost shouted as she emerged on the line.

No one ever would believe that a fay bird was acting so aggressive and grumbling all the time.

"Ai, just listen! Something is wrong in the central square of the Feral sect. The scanner sensed magic and is entirely red…"

His words cut as the building that he was passing by it exploded. The flame lashed out a cloud of savage fire.

"I think, it is time to go Ai. That wraith beast went inside the building and I can hear Delun."

It was the third floor of that building and he didn't wait for Ai who was saying, "No, Bo! I will ponder the situation." But how she wanted to solve it while Delun was almost in death door.

He stopped the car and got out, heading to the building. Other drivers stopped before the building. Even if they wanted to cross that, those people who flooded out of the shops, restaurants, and other buildings wouldn't allow them to do so. They were furious and cursing the mayor for neglecting Feral's problems. To protest against the unseen mayor they obstructed the path. This was a mess and a huge one.

*

Inside the track, Maria was sunk into the hole of her thought about the king's hunters when the explosion's sound brought a mere silence into the track. Her eyes shifted on the screens that were showing the Feral's Central Block where the drivers were supposed to cross a common knot area.

The third floor of a building exploded.

"What the hell was that?" Jason shouted from the reporter tower, got up his seat, and broke the silence.

"Oh, gods! Bo Wong got out of the car and rushed to the building! This boy is out of mind or got some guts for entering there!" He blurted and left the ethics to die and move out of his brain.

The audience parts were all fell in bewilderment and found their selves with his taunt.

Maria took the cellphone out of her pocket and called someone. She felt that the explosion just shook her brain.

"Hurry up… hurry up Jack." Without any reason, she disliked that occasion. A strong sense told her that this match wouldn't end up the way that it must.

After two rings, Jack answered. Maria could hear the sound of turmoil on the other side of the line.

"Hello, Maria! Long time no see. Did you see the explosion?"

"Yes, thousands of people saw it! The seeker camera covered everything! Are you still staying in the Feral sect?" She swallowed but her mouth already went as dry as bone.

"Yes! I am and just don't tell me that I must go there." He growled.

"Listen, Jack! I am sorry for everything you went through but the Immortality court certainly would censor the videos and I am sure that I saw a wraith. Please go there and cover everything, we need a good quality video and against that, I will beg the chief Editor to bring you out of that abeyance." She heaved a strong breath out.

"It is a good deal but I don't want to work for MST anymore! Instead, you can talk to your uncle to sort out a job for me in his Garage." Jack stated.

She sighed out of relief; it was way easier than convincing the chief Editor to bring him back.

"Deal! You have my words. Would you do it?"

"I am on my way! Just… damn!" He confirmed

"What happened? Why damn Jack?"

"The crowd is so sick and here we have many angry Feral. Okay, I have to go. See you soon darling." He hung up swiftly.

He was already ready to record that scene for his website. Maria Davis called him on time and it was approved that he would soon gain a proper job to leave that district.

Life in Lake Vita was much tougher than in Rose Vita. But when you have a good job it worth the risk you have made to move to this city.

Jack didn't want to catch attention so he already had a small pocket camera with high quality that at the same time connected to his cellphone in his pocket. He wanted to avoid any possibility from Aligners' that might come across after noticing he was filming the situation. On the other hand, Feral people hated cameras.

"Ah, man! This is madness." He muttered.

The third floor was burning! That building was familiar. An evacuee apartment that had gas escape yesterday. That could be the reason for this explosion but Maria talked about a wraith. He zoomed the image and saw something on the roof.

People were protesting to the mayor who had been ignoring them for repairing the gas lines. There were many death records through gas escape. The strict smelled horrible, full of sewage rats and it proved that the sewage system wouldn't work well.

"Bo Wong is inside there! This boy went insane. Man, this is a matter of life and death." He murmured after noticing the wraith.

*

Bo held his breath unintentionally; his heart was hammering in his chest, heading to emergency stairs, ascending to the roof. He could hear that Delun was asking for help and his voice lost in the crowd inside. If it weren't for the gift that the immortality court had given him as an Aligner he couldn't hear his voice.

He didn't care about anything but Delun. His thought went tumultuous because he had no weapon to defend himself if it were a wraith. He was on the way to meeting the grim reaper.

It was about Delun's life and he couldn't let another person he loves die in that zone. Who was the wraith that had a rooted enmity with his family? If he didn't stop it there so it might happen again for his younger brother and his mother. He had to end this nasty game, it was a skin game like gambling that he didn't fancy it, to risk on someone's life.

Smoke was streaming up and down while the heat was heading downward, making the air heavy. His throat got dry as he thought how the wraith caught Delun! He was a strong detective Aligner in the academy and not an easy person to be captured simply. He might have surprised and that was why he didn't answer the calls or there could be another terrifying possibility.

Maybe a wraith took a magician's body and his power then went after Delun! But it wasn't a regular one. This one was greedier that absorbed magic power.
