"Father, is it alright for me to come in?"
The Duke raised his head upon hearing the query, making him stop writing.
"You can enter." The man said as he returned to what he was doing.
His visitor readily opened the door and stepped inside the room. They walked until they were a couple of meters away from the Duke's office table.
Although the sun was shining strongly, the office had an atmosphere as if the dusk wouldn't come. Above that, the silence within the room created a suffocating feeling.
That's why the Duke's visitor couldn't summon the courage to speak. They were afraid to disturb the false serenity that was on its breaking point. Still and all, they came with a purpose. The liberty to waste time was not given to them.
"Father, I have something to ask."
Without looking at his visitor, his hand smoothly gliding on the parchment, the Duke responded, "I'm quite busy so speak. I'll hear you out."
