Inside the car was quiet, except for Ella who once in a while kept on trying to wake Yden up, with a soft pat in her face. She was carrying Yden's head in her lap in the back seat while Leira was driving.
Ella wasn't bothered by the pain behind her thigh even for how many times she winced. Because, once in a while the pangs still kept on hitting her..
But she can't put Yden's head down.
Besides, Leira was driving at such uncanny speed toward the emergency room. Ella felt the need to hold and steady Yden's body to be safer.
Gladly the streets are empty and they found it easier to drive at such velocity.
As soon as they reached the hospital, Yden was already pushed forward inside the emergency room.
The girls were busy talking towards each other, sharing each concern about Yden, after quite a moment a nurse advanced towards the girls to ask for a little information.
"What's her full name?"
"Her parents?"
"Emergency contact number?"
"Address?'
However, none of those questions are answered. The girls just simply kept on staring towards each other without a single word of response to the nurse, although just a simple shrug.
"You didn't know anything about her?" Where did you meet her?"
"In the sor…"Zara was about to mention sorority but stopped as she felt Leira's hand grab her arm to stop her. Zara had understood what Leira would like to say with that gesture. Since what happened to Yden was because of the activities in the sorority, she wasn't also sure if it would be wise to talk about the sorority.
The nurse raises her questioning brow towards Zara, waiting for her to finish her sentence.
But, Zara's mouth was stuck, she suddenly dithered to say anything, and Leira noticed it.
"We met her at school. We studied in the same University." Leira wasn't even aware that her answer to the nurse became a piece of redone-done information.
"So your schoolmates, what University are you in so we could contact the school about more of her information," the nurse continued.
"I think, since the school was still closed at this hour, we will just get the information to the school registrar personally." Dennise, respond while giving meaningful glances towards the others, waiting for them to back her up. She just tried to avoid things getting more complicated.
"Yeah,Yeah," the rest of the girls nodded. They weren't even sure if what Dennise was saying was true or just simply an alibi. However, they still feel the need to back her up, to trust her.
"Okay, make sure you can provide me with her information tomorrow. We really need it as soon as possible, or else we just have to make all the tests on her about allergies and other stuff, which will possibly cause us to delay the needed treatment." The nurse explained.
However, just before she went back to the nurse station, she noticed something not appropriate with the girls. She tried to ignore the stains of blood she saw in their clothing. However, she also noticed a pattern on all of them. Suspicions grew on her as she saw that almost all of their backs are stained with blood and discolorations on their thighs. Just how it looked like with the patient.
Yet, with the conversation, they had moments ago, she knew enough that this group of girls won't be saying anything to her. It could be a reason for fear, or they are just protecting someone that could be the true offender.
So, she made a drastic decision to call the police. She felt that someone was hurting these girls or they were hurting each other. But still in, either way, none of that reason is tolerable. This could be a criminal case, or they could be something like a human trafficking victim.
Hours passed, and all of the girls were sitting in the waiting area just near the emergency room, Zara was already lying in a long chair sleeping with her mouth open. Ella laid her side on the wall while trying to take a nap, Leira chose to go back to her car, and Dennise was the only one left awake waiting for some news from the doctor checking on Yden.
What the MI said about Yden, not waking up before sunrise meant she failed the quest, came repeating in Dennise's head. It's almost four in the morning, and still no news of Yden waking up. Dennise started to feel hopeless. Their group probably won't be complete by the end of this series of initiation. Even though she would feel bad about it, she doesn't know how to deal with it and help Yden.
She peeked over the glass wall that separated the emergency room and the waiting area. She can see Yden from where she was standing, and with just her thought, she kept on talking to Yden, bringing her to wake up with her silent prayers. She never took her glances away from her when she noticed Ydens hand moving.
She stood there in agape, happy and unbelieving. 'Did God just heard my prayers?" she muttered indistinctly, enough for her to hear herself.
Abruptly Dennise ran towards the nurse's station to report the situation, and without any delay, they all went out to check on Yden, aside from the one nurse who was still talking on the phone.
She remembered her. She was the nurse who interviewed them. Yes, she was just a random nurse, and Dennise didn't bother to question how she looked back at her.
Dennise was about to wake the girls up and to tell them the good news when a sound of a police siren caught her attention again. The air around her changed, something inside her that seemed to be telling her to be anxious with the sound of the police car. Even though she knew for herself that she should not.
The police stopped right in front of the hospital, and the office went straight to the nurse station as soon as they got inside. He was talking to the nurse on the phone just a while ago. She doesn't want to think about it, but something feels odd, especially when the nurses point towards them.
