Someone walked in a slightly lit dark corridor. The light that managed to penetrate only illuminated the path enough for a little vision. The person kept on walking into things and walking while holding the wall. They had carried something that was important. However, after a while, the person began walking without any trouble.
Once outside, Becky turned around to thank the person that had guided her. She opened her mouth to speak but only smiled in the end. It was a wise decision as it would be odd for her to thank someone other people could not see. She walked to the main house and someone followed her. The sound of a cloak flapping was heard as the person followed her.
His feet never touched the ground. His feet were bare and clean. He was dressed in silver from top to bottom. One could not see his face or any other feature because his were covered in a long cloak and his hood was on. However, his hair was visible. At first glance someone could easily mistake by calling it white but when the rays of the sun touched it, this was not the case, his hair too was silver.
It glistened under the bright sky. Becky walked while humming, she would at times dance to the tune she was humming. The figure behind her seemed to enjoy it too but he had no musical rhythm in his body. This made it funny to watch but alas! No one but she could see him.
After dropping whatever she had gotten from the cellar in the kitchen, she left for her room. Her duties were already done and it had been a week since her mistress had left. Things were not exactly cheerful for her now. Her days dragged on awfully slowly. Her heart ached for conversation with someone her age but that was impossible in this household.
They all acted like robots who would function automatic and only to do their duties and nothing else. They maids had no time for chit chat. The butler was always on the road. The chefs only talked to give orders on what to cook and she could clearly not go talking to the horses in the stables. Going outside was prohibited and only those with reason to had a chance to go.
Don't be mistaken, the reason had to do with the master traveling, going for groceries an delivered and revising letters from the post office. It was 'work only' in short. She sighed and wished her best friend was here. Becky did not know what household she had been sold into. She just hoped it wasn't that one.
The one household that knew of their existence and the one responsible for their near extinction. They attacked with no reason. Enjoyed torturing before killing. Put themselves ahead of their own. She did not understand how such people could exist but then again, the world was both a wide and a small place.
She walked into her room and closed. Lying against the door, she let her sadness consume her heart. She slid down the door and hugged her knees. The sound of a cloak flapping was heard followed by the clanging of chains. Cold hands wrapped themselves around her. Becky did not resist and fell into this illusion she had been offered.
After a while she withdrew and looked at the clocked figure. She held his hood and he immediately tried to stop her from dropping it. Becky assured him it was okay and he let go. She let the hood down to reveal a beautiful face. It was not one would expect to be on top of the shoulders of a man. His silver hair was accompanied but white eye lashes.
His eyes were sapphire blue. His lips were full and pink. His eyes were pointy and on his neck was a collar with a chain. His hands and feet too had chains on them. When Becky's eyes landed on them she became even more sad. The figure noticed the look in her eyes and followed the gaze. On seeing what she was looking at, he smiled.
This simple everyday action made him look even more beautiful. He had no dimple on his cheeks but when he smiled the sun shines in the room.
"If only mother had shown me how to break them before…" she lamented.
It was her one regret. The two most powerful people she knew were gone just like that. Their death was so mysterious but it seemed only she could see that. It had hurt her to think that she was left all alone and the one person she could talk to was out of her reach. They protected them for the longest time without them knowing it and now they were gone.
At least Roger was brought back but even though he could still use his abilities, he was broken. They had taken his knight out. He could not remember how it had happened as everything from his memories too was erased. As she thought this, someone bumped his forehead on hers to get her attention.
It was not painful but being this close to him made her heart flutter. She stood up, held his hand and led him to her bed. She had no chair in her room so the only option was to sit on her bed. The man with her was able to walk without any problems as the chains were not attached to each other. He was happy just being with her. Seeing her work was enough for him an for the longest time he could not explain what this feeling was.
She brought out some snacks she had left and they began eating them in silence.
"Is something wrong?" she asked.
His face grew solemn for a reason and he looked away. Becky stopped in her eating tracks, she looked at him and waited for an explanation. He opened his mouth and she was expecting him to say something when he ate one of the biscuits she had laid out. Becky sighed and waited but he kept on eating and eating.
She was almost at her limit when he let out a laugh. He was teasing her and the sight of her anticipating face was comical. She looked like a cute puppy awaiting his orders for the day. Only that her face was now pink and she looked to be boiling in anger. After getting a fill of this moment he went back to the matter at hand.
"It's Roger," his voice was deep like a low monotone.
"You don't mean…"
"I can no longer feel his energy."
That was bad news. If he could 'it feel his energy then that meant…
