I witnessed how Luis' usual stoic expression changed slightly. It was a sight to behold to catch him off guard. I might do this often since it looked like a fun habit.
I leaned back and smiled, closed-lipped. "As you can see, Your Grace, I might die. Although you want to help me find a solution, I don't want to get my hopes up. I'd rather do things I want to lessen my regret."
"Are you trying to make me angry, Lady Marsella?" Luis' eyes darkened as they glinted with killing intent. But instead of fear, I felt... glad. He didn't know me well, and I barely knew him. If not for our engagement, there was no way we'd ever cross in this life. Still, he was the first person who seemed genuinely displeased with the thought of my death.
Never in my previous life or the current one had anyone made me feel my life was important. So, this meant a lot to me.
