Chapter 54 - 25 - Calm before the Raging Storm

Three days left

How did time slip so swiftly?

"It's 21st Century, people must freely love who the heck they wanna love! Also, 30-days deadline to beat? What do you think I am in, a tv dating show?!" she protested, slamming her balled fist on the table.

Gallus guised in nerdy student outfit just grinned which provoked her to toss the crumpled paper at her disposal. Defying the laws of gravity, the paper was suspended mid-air before it hit his face then fell on the ground.

"Show off." She snorted.

Inasmuch as she was in awe with his little trick, her frustration felt greater. All kinds of hands there are, she held them: calloused, scrawny, velvety, even clammy! She should have found her so-called Fated by now which, frankly speaking, she doubts the authenticity up to this holy molly hour.

"Long, long ago, mortals were souls without physical form, just yet. Like stars scattered in the universe, they existed in the same space but were nevertheless alone. Loneliness from solitude fueled their desire for companionship. The anguish of these legions of souls grew and grew and grew for thousands of years! Behold, it was tremendous. All of a sudden, ZING!"

His whole face lit up while narrating as though the events unfolded with him at the front seat. She was sucked by his gusto so she leaned close and listened.

"A phenomenon we called union of souls transpired. The red string of fate bound two lone souls, but bear in mind, it's BECAUSE they sought for each other so even if they get separated here on Earth or after Earth, there is a guarantee they'd reunite and meet. What you deem constraint to freedom is ironically its very own privilege."

An indescribable sorrow momentarily manifested in his eyes. Weirdly enough, her heart ached together with him unbeknownst she would relate to the last statement sooner.

"I didn't ask for storytelling. Just gimme hints, useless Fae!"

"Nu-ah! A Miss Know-it-all like you won't need one. Oh, I almost forgot! Stay away from Ms. Sanz. She's one hell of a nosy fairy."

The guidance counsellor of Aurum University is a fairy?!

Before she interrogates him further, he snapped his fingers and was gone. She blinked several times, skeptical at the now vacant space he was seated a second ago.

"That rude rascal!" She cursed in gritted teeth.

Personally, it sounded like a bad joke Gallus spouted for the sake of troubling her but if it is the truth --- means what she imagined she heard in the POD office before is real!

She vaguely remembered the young female voice saying, "You dug your own pit and that shall eventually trap you. The sole consolation I may offer is when the time comes, call my name, Iridescent."

The rasp sound of a guy clearing his throat interrupted her disarrayed thoughts. She jerked her head to the individual obviously begging for some attention. She was welcomed by the austere features of Eli's face, the hardly noticeable stubbles above his upper lip in particular. He looked damn fine and rough. That made her mood fouler.

She confronted his dark as night eyes though not for long. His gaze was too intense, inviting her to dive into an abysmal mystery that he epitomized.

"What? I'm happy and healthy. Now, scram!" She shooed him as the slivers of jealousy from yesterday turned her tongue vile.

"You are under my supervision, Aragon. Are you acting dumb or did Ms. Sanz forgot to inform you?" he retorted, his voice controlled and probing.

Instinctively her shoulders hunched slightly. She was tempted to bite her tongue or better yet bang her head on the wall. Get a grip, she berated herself.

While he briefed her with details straightaway, her heart plunged into bitterness at amazing speed. He reverted back to his all-business demeanor. It was needless to point out but she couldn't help it not after she experienced warming affection in his care.

"For three days beginning today, I will direct you to your tasks. Ms. Sanz specifically said the ending or extension of your disciplinary service will be based on your performance that I will evaluate."

He stared at her expectant for a violent reaction. Afraid to be betrayed by the emotions laced in her eyes, she averted her gaze and simply nodded. She felt more crushed because he went on with his thorough explanation, no insistence of what was wrong on her part.

"The walls between us are up high, aren't they?" she wanted to ask but her pride won't allow her.

In the next few hours, a load of work kept her preoccupied. She scurried around campus building to building, department to department! The official papers of Student Activities Budget Plan for the whole year were in her hands. Getting the signature of every elected club president was her first task.

Some considerate lads took the initiative to come to her. However, there were bitches she desperately chased to the ends of hell. She finished the job past 12:00 pm. Conscious of her haggard face as well as drenched stifling sweaters, she did a quick change before going to the SC office.

There Eli was, buried in his paper works!

"Leave it at my desk." He instructed before she articulated her greetings.

Her wounded feelings have evolved into unreasonable displeasure directed at the guy. The scenario of ripping the papers into smithereens played nonstop on her head. Gosh, the wicked desire was paramount! It took the last drops of her patience to cling on to restraint, earlier exhausted by 50 differently located club presidents!

"Fine! You think I will let you torture me with a cold shoulder? NEWS FLASH, I'd never lose to you!" she swore inwardly.

She advanced ahead, put the documents next to a mountain of paperwork and prepared to scat. No courtesy greetings, glances or whatsoever! For her, he was non-existent.

"Hey, buy the snacks for the meeting this afternoon!" a high pitched voice exclaimed, halting her steps.

The haughty tone ticked her nerves so she stopped merely for a split-second then proceeded.

"Sis, I'm talking to you." The SC chief secretary, July, insisted, obstructing her way.

Her eyebrow arched on its own accord.

"Get out of my way." She replied, calm yet threatening.

July let out a nervous laughter, scratching her back at the same time.

"Pres, we're shorthanded. Pretty please!" She turned to Eli for support.

Wimp, Care scorned inwardly.

Eli nodded in approval. July side-glanced then smirked at her. Care maintained her poker face although inside, she was itching to burn the place down with the cocky wench trapped inside.

"After she eats her lunch, Jul." He added much to their surprise.

UGH!

She snatched the piece of paper from the hand of the cocky bitch named July. It contains the list of refreshments for purchase. Then, she stormed out of the office. After torturing her with the back-to-cold-shoulder treatment, he was again melting her with his inconsistent kind gestures.

"Aragon, you may have your lunch break bef---" She shut the door, tuning out his voice successfully.

Tears brimmed at the tips of her eyelids. To be on the verge of crying was the magnitude of how much Eli frustrated her!
