Chapter 43 - 20, Part Two - You're My Kind of Peace & Quiet

Her burden just became bigger all thanks to the insensitive Fae. Nevertheless the second her head rested atop her mattress, she drifted to sleep. Unconsciously, her hand searched for the knitted scarf lent by Eli once upon a time when his suitors were ready to lunge on her. Once she felt its soft texture, she drew this to her chest embracing dearly. But her heart constricted and compressed by the fears for tomorrow eventually interrupted her slumber.

3:00 AM

Despite her problems haunting her, she spent the morning doing her missed papers in yesterday's class. The work merely took a single hour so she proceeded on her morning prep. The ice cold water running down from her hair down to the tips of her toes made her grit teeth. She endured the cold like a masochist who felt pleasure in numbing herself until she got used to the pain.

Without an appetite for food, she headed straight to the garage and hopped on her Porsche. Prior to that, she handed a note to a housemaid who was clearly a more early bird than she was. What she wrote on that piece of paper was "Take the day off!" meant to be received by her bodyguards.

The road was pretty deserted. Only the streetlights convinced her that Aurum City was awake with her. Well, it never really sleeps. She reached the outskirts in no time where it started to get bumpy since the pavement was no longer cemented. Trees towered over her line of vision. Houses were nowhere in sight and people closest from here a single or couple kilometers away sleeping in their beds yet she was unafraid. In fact, she loved the solitude the place gave her.

She pulled over behind shrubs which served as the perfect hiding spot for her car.

Why?

Helena Aragon has a nasty habit of destroying things she loved whenever she did something that displeases her. Care already lost count of her favorite things that got either burned, shattered or ripped by the stony-hearted woman. What she could never forget, though, was the dancing ballerina music box which holds sentimental value because it was a gift from her Dad. After years of struggling with trying to protect her valuables yet failing miserably, she realized where she should have hidden it in the first place.

"Sunshine, don't get too lonely. I'd surely be back for you." she promised, tapping the hood of her luxurious car.

It isn't its costly price that she cared about. Obviously, she is capable of buying a grander car. What she could not afford to lose is the expression of love imbued in it. She learned driving from her father and to celebrate her getting a license, he bought her a Porsche.

Clutching her handbag, she made one last look at the car before walking on foot. The gentle breeze eased her long distance journey back to the highway. She realized she went too deep in the woods. The only saving grace was she wore her running shoes for this exact purpose. After long minutes, she finally spotted the cemented roads from a distance. As a surge of relief seeped through her bones, she sprinted towards the direction catching a glimpse of a guy riding a bicycle.

"Eli!" she instinctively shouted before her thought process even started.

Oh no!!!
