Chapter 76 - Black-Coated Jaguar

The powerful strike hit Jacob in the chest. He instantly felt the power of the animal and knew it came to kill him, there was no other way around it.

The seriousness of the situation began to dawn on Jacob. He frantically burst out of the sleeping bag scrambled out of the tent. He rolled out of the tent and grabbed ran for his spear.

The jaguar roared again when it used its palm to tear down the tent. It walked out scowling as he slowly talked to Jacob.

"Jeez, that was too close. Why is the targeting me, is there something attracting him" Jacob wondered, the jaguar had other things it could eat. So it was weird for it to target him.

As the light from the tent did, the jaguar's eyes lit up like a gem. It would soon become the only thing Jacob could see. This worried him, greatly.

The jaguar saw Jacob on high alert and stalked him in circles. He did those a few more times until his eyes disappeared behind the tree.

It was harder to keep an eye on his movement but Jakocb knew his eyes would always give away his position.

The Jaguar looked mean and annoyed by this. Jacob watched the Jaguar disengaged until his eyes became distant.

Sceptical he would come back Jacob watched it for a little longer until it was gone. After some time he figured it had gone.

He lowered his guard and turned around.

Rawr!

The sound of the jaguar scowled from above. It leapt from the tree toward Jacob's head.

The noise frighted Jacob but he was prepared. He thrust his spear between the glowing eyes of the jaguar.

clang!

A loud shatter broke out followed by sparks. The Jaguar blocked his spear with its claws. It dropped to the ground and pounced toward Jacob. He skillfully dodged his charge.

ah!

Jacob tripped on a stump of a felled tree. He immediately realized his blunder and tried to catch himself with his spear, but it was too late. The quick Jaguar manoeuvred its body and pounced toward Jacob.

It bit at and Jacob exposed jugular. Unbalanced and unable to regain his balance Jacob pressed his staff into the mouth of the Jaguar.

The Jaguar summoned the strength of a thousand men a bit down onto the shaft of the spear, inching closer to Jacob's throat.

His muscles began to shake, showing signs of failure if he stayed like this too long. Without thinking twice, he called his fist and ripped a powerful strike in its jaw. Its jaw rattles and it looked surprised to see that Jacob had that much power.

It leapt back out of surprise.

Jacob jumped to his feet quickly. "I shouldn't have fallen into a deep sleep. I was dumb to think I was safe" he said visibly annoyed. He pointed his spear to the Jaguar to scare it away, but it stood adamant.

Annoyed, Jacob attacked first. He bolted toward the panther with a spear slashing its head as it suddenly disappeared. The spear passed like there was nothing there.

Jacob began to look around his surrounding trying to figure out where the jaguar had gone. After not seeing him for a few minutes Jacob scooped his bags and left the area leaving the broken tent behind.

"It unreasonable to take that fight. If he hadn't rushed me by surprise, He wouldn't have been so lucky", Jacob reflected on his blunders and it made him angry. Letting his head down at a moment like that could be fatal.

If his foe was any stronger they could have likely killed him without even being heard. He counted his stars for being twice awakened, there were many dangers so he wouldn't make the same mistake.

What's more, he was here all alone. Feeling himself become drowsy he began to he looked for a place to lay his head for the rest of the night.

As he started looking Jacob began to see a faint light coming through the cloud over the horizon. He wondered if it was moonlight but it was the opposite.

The sun began to rise as Jacob became depressed, he had planned to travel during the day while travelling by himself. He couldn't survive the day while he was tired when all the animals came from their burrows to find prey, now he was unable to sleep.

"How did this turn grim so fast..." Jacob asked himself, as he propped up on a tree.

"I should find somewhere that is safe enough for me to sleep, still can't survive without proper sleep. I won't be able to function properly", Jacob did not wait around and quickly left.

The sky gradually became brighter, and morning fast approached. Jacob frantically tried to find somewhere safe for him to sleep.

Trees were not safe enough and unstable especially because his baggage we large and he needs it for survival and Jacob was not taking risks sleeping in the open.

Begrudgingly, he never stopped and continued on, his eyelids get drooping down.

Different noises came from around the forest, signalling the waking of the sleepy animals. He already covered many more miles and walked through gullies strung with wild vines.

It was difficult to traverse and even harder with the mucky ground below While trying not to encounter any unwanted animals lurking in wait. Jacob mostly walked without any aim just looking for somewhere where he would be able to rest for a while to get rid of his drowsiness.

As he emerged from waist-deep much he walked for a few more metres when he reached a sheer cliff.

The cliff looked to be about 300 metres with extending ledges.

"Nice", Jacob was happy, after he dug his finger into the cliff edge, he was able to hold onto little edges. He supported his body weight until he started to slowly climb the cliff edge.
