Fear.
It is a strong emotion that elicits a response from the person instilled with it. They will either forget everything and run or face everything and rise. Many people in Gaia have experienced fear, but what they did differ. Some gave up and accepted death, others fought back and survived, and naturally, some died.
Just because someone could handle their fear did not mean they would survive the ordeal or come out on top.
In this case, Lilly was experiencing a large amount of fear. Sure, she had experienced fear a lot in her life. Even before coming to Gaia, she was afraid that people wouldn't accept her and afraid of trying to make friends, among other common fears. Naturally, she overcame these fears by making friends with Katelynn and Tim, even April and Don, or by not caring what others thought of her.
