Since the streets of this small town seemed empty. Aside from debris here and there, trash, and a few run-down and destroyed vehicles, there wasn't much. They did see Contenders out scavaging here and there, but for the most part, the Contenders ignored them. Some gazes did linger, mostly on Lucy, and some did linger on John, but the scowl from Josh was enough to cause them to stay away.
Josh's expression was telling them, "Try it. It'll be your last mistake." So the unsavory Contenders stayed back and did nothing more than just stare. John didn't need to do anything, but there was this look of disgust in his eyes when he saw those people looking at Lucy. The girl wasn't even an adult yet, yet these people were eyeing her like she was their next meal. It disgusted him, so much so that he wanted to bury them six feet under.
