Chapter 66 - Day 98.5

The others that stood outside of the vortex were baffled by April's actions. They didn't understand why she had jumped into the vortex. They didn't even know if she would be safe. Don had his platforms and whatnot, but April didn't have much. No one wanted to go in after her either. They felt that even if they did, they would most likely end up dead.

April was in the vortex. Various other objects were swirling within the vortex with her. She was doing her best to avoid being smashed into any, and when she found something, she took hold of it. It was a refrigerator. She took hold of the handle of the refrigerator and planted her feet firmly on the appliance. She closed her eyes to avoid getting dizzy since she was spinning thanks to the current of the vortex. Unlike Don, who was protected by his Spatial Distortion, the winds cut her clothing and body up, but she didn't care. Her main focus was trying to find Don.

When she felt like she could hold down her breakfast, she opened up her eyes and looked up. She saw multiple fireballs flying around and Don evading them. The Molten Spider seemed to maintain a good composure and balance no matter what direction the building was spinning and twisting. She was steadily rising thanks to the vortex. Still, she felt like she would need to jump off the refrigerator at a certain point since it would most likely be flung from the tornado.

Don and the Molten Spider were still engaged with one another. The Molten Spider continued to spew fireballs at Don. Even if the Molten Spider was hit by its own fireballs on the return, it would take no damage since it had fire coming out of it, and its entire body looked like it was made out of the fire.

Don managed to get close enough, but before he could touch the Molten Spider, its body gave off a sudden flare. The flames coming out of the Molten Spider expunged outward, and Don was pushed back. He brought his arms up to defend against the flames and keep his face from being scorched.

Don created a platform for him to land on and take a moment to regain his barring. His forearms were burned badly now, but he had saved a major part of his body. "Kekekekeke" The Molten Spider snickered. "Silly human. You should've just let me burn you to a crisp. I like my food charred." The Molten Spider spoke out.

"That so? I like mine minced..." Don kicked off the platform and straight towards the Molten Spider. The Molten Spider spewed out fireballs, but the fireballs seemed to distort around Don. It looked as if they went through or went through some kind of phantom. Don didn't do this from the beginning because it took up a lot of energy. He was essentially distorting his entire body, not just what was around him.

When Don was right before it, the Molten Spider flared out again. Flames flared from its body, but Don didn't seem fazed. When the flames died down, Don canceled out the distortion around him and placed his hand on the Molten Spider. His hand was now distorted, and the distortion spread throughout the Molten Spider. The Molten Spider's body began to pull into itself, and it began to scream and cry in pain. Once it had completely pulled into itself, it imploded and was no more.

Don was now feeling the drawbacks of using his mutated Seed Power to its fullest. His vision began to blur, and his eyelids fell heavy, and then he fell onto the building the Molten Spider was on. Since the building was twisting and turning, he began to slide off of it, and eventually, he fell. He could barely maintain consciousness, and his body wasn't responding to him. The clock that was previous below his feet had vanished shortly after he eliminated the Molten Spider. There was no distortion around him or flare of black in his eyes.

April could see Don falling. It was weird that Don was falling in a vortex that was carrying things up; however, she didn't care. She jumped from the refrigerator she was on and reached out to him. Don's vision was still blurry, so when he saw April, he smiled softly. To him, she looked like an angel. A beautiful angel. He mustered the last of his strength to reach out to her, and in turn, she managed to take his hand. She pulled herself closer and then wrapped her arms around him as tightly as possible.

"Don!" April called out to him, but it seemed like he had passed out. His arms were draped around her body. She quickly looked around, seeing if there was any way out, then she noticed something. The Vortex seemed to slowly begin to decrease in both speed and ferocity. The tornado on the outside was starting to grow smaller and smaller. Rose was tiring out; she didn't know how long to keep it up. She was originally trying to keep it up until Don came out, but it proved hard, and Don wasn't coming out. Eventually, her Seed Power gave out, and the Tornado disbursed into wisping winds.

Everything the vortex was holding out was now falling to the ground in various directions. Seeing that some of the objects were coming over them, John activated his Seed Power to decrease the gravity, which would ultimately slow any falling objects to a stop. He had managed to learn how to manipulate different gravitation areas around him, so he left the gravity near everyone's feet neutral while decreasing the gravity above them.

Everyone flinched as they saw the objects, but they opened their eyes and noticed the objects just hoving in the air when nothing happened. John seemed to be sweating. A lot of objects were hovering over their group, and more were coming. That was when Rebecca noticed April and Don falling towards the ground. They were nowhere near the gravity field that John deployed. If they crashed into the ground, they were sure to be dead on impact.

"Don and April!" Rebecca shouted point at them. "I got it!" Dillian shouted and stomped his foot to the ground. The earth around started to form into a large pool. "Ryan!" Dillian called out to Ryan, and Ryan began to fill the large pool with a massive amount of water. They wouldn't die on impact now, but they would probably have some pain afterward. However, they didn't know Don had passed out.

April adjusted both her and Don, so they went in feet first. When they made contact, a large splash expunged from the pool and spilled over. April had taken a deep breath, but since she had no way of getting Don to hold his, she pinched his nose and pressed her lips to his. At least this way, she could keep him from taking water into his lungs.

However, Don was heavy. She struggled to get them to the surface of the water. Fortunately, thanks to her training, she had a fairly large lung capacity. She needed it to stabilize her breathing and keep her body from moving around. Even the slightest breath could have caused her to miss a shot when she fired off her arrow. Besides that, she often enjoyed swimming and seeing how long she could hold her breath. Due to this, she continuously challenged herself, and eventually, she had increased her lung capacity.

The pool was deep enough so they wouldn't shatter their legs at the bottom. In fact, by the time they reached the bottom, their feet tapped against it. Which allowed her to push off the bottom of the pool as hard as possible to surge upward. She was getting closer to the surface, but she was finding it hard to hold her breath. She didn't know how long had passed, but it felt like minutes. She winced and squinted her eyes; she didn't want to break her lip contact with Don since she knew she was the only one keeping him from taking water into her lungs.

At the same time, she couldn't really see how much further she had to go. She just hoped it wasn't much. She didn't know how much longer she could hold out. But, sadly, she still had a ways to go. She was nowhere near the surface.

'I'm sorry, Don. I don't think I can hold on any longer. At least we die together....' April thought internally. Instead of breaking her lips from his, she wrapped herself around him and kept him as close as possible. She figured if they were going to die, it would be in each other's embrace. She closed her eyes. She couldn't hold her breath any longer, so the water started to fill their mouths and slowly began to sink back to the bottom of the pool. Even with Don's mutated Seed, there was no way from spotting the body was drowning. Sure, the Seed could isolate the brain and heart, but there would be no host to put both back into.

'Don!' Melissa called out to his mind, but it was distorted and muffled. Her voice never got through.

However, something began to happen.

The water started to move. Dillian manipulated the earth of the pool and tore it down. They had begun to worry since it seemed like no one was surfacing. With nothing holding the water, it spilled out. Dillian did create a barrier for the group so they wouldn't get swept by the water, and John had managed to toss the objects away, so they were no longer in any immediate danger. He canceled out his Seed Power. They all waited for the water to pass the and when it finished, Dillian took the barrier down. There they saw Don and April. Don was lying on the street with his arms wrapped around April, and April was lying on his chest. Both of them were passed out.

Quickly Natalie raced towards them. She moved April off of Don. She checked April first since she was already there. April wasn't breathing, and her heartbeat was faint. "Damn it! Everyone keep watch. I need to perform CPR. Does anyone else know how to do CPR?!" Natalie called out, and Rebecca stepped forward. "I do!" She exclaimed. "Can you perform CPR on Don?" Natalie didn't need to look at Don. April was like this, then that meant Don was as well.

Rebecca nodded, and both of them went to perform CPR. Natalie began with chest compressions. She put the heel of her dominant hand to April's chest then interlocked the fingers of her other hand over her dominant hand. She would give thirty compressions then move to perform a rescue breath. She picked up April's chin and pinched her nose, then exhaled. She waited for April's chest to fall and listen for a breath, then went about doing the compressions again. Rebecca had done the same to Don.

Nothing had happened from the first cycle. They did a second cycle, but nothing happened. They were beginning to worry. Everyone was wondering if Don and April would be alright. They went into a third cycle, but still nothing. Jessica grit her teeth, and Ion balled his fist. Juan and Catalina had turned away and closed their eyes; meanwhile, Ryan, Dillian, and Sussan didn't know what to say or do. Noah and Tyrone were just as clueless.

Then they heard someone shout from behind them. "On your feet!" It was Boss. "You can't die yet! You are our Leader! So quit the shit! Something like this won't kill either of you!" Josh continued, and eventually, Don started to choke out water from his lungs. April did the same thing. It was after the fifth cycle. Everyone had a relieved and happy look on their face now.

Natalie and Rebecca sat back for a moment to allow both of them to sit up while getting the last of the water out of their lungs. Once Don regained his barring, he looked towards Boss with a smirk across his face, "I never wanted that position anyways." He stated, which caused Boss to snicker. "Don't care. You aren't allowed to die. We are all going home, and that includes you, Don. Besides, you have no say, so deal with it, Shift Lead." Boss responded with a smirk of his own, and Don closed his eyes and shook his head with a smile.

Suddenly Rebecca had taken Don in one arm and April in the other. She was hugging both of them and starting to sob lightly. "Thank goodness! Thank goodness you are both okay and alive!" Her voice was shakey through the sobs. Don would wrap an arm around Rebecca, and April did the same, both of them smiling softly.

After everyone was given time to rest and relax, Don had prepared a change of clothes for both him and April. Don was wearing a white teeshirt and faded blue jeans while April wore blue short shorts and a blue shirt that matched. They already dried off and were still resting for a moment. Then, they decided to use an empty building that was still intact to take a short rest.

After recovering, they were ready to move out again. Only this time, Don and April were told not to do crazy and drastic things like that again. Don said he would make no promises but would keep from doing it if he could; meanwhile, April had just smiled. It seemed like they would do it again regardless, but perhaps that was what made them special.

"Still... I wish Don was the one who performed CPR on me; I would've woken up and just made out with him on the spot." April said boldly. "We can do that and more when we get to the new base," Don responded in turn. Everyone was taken back a bit. They had just nearly died moments ago and been now talking about making out and whatnot. "Mommy, what's making out?" Sofia asked, which caused Catalina to shift her attention to Sofia. "You..." Catalina was about to respond to Sofia, but Jessica had leaned over and said something. "It's when two people kiss each other passionately," Jessica said, and Sofia's eyes lit up in amazement. "So, like when Mommy and Daddy do after they say they love each other!?"

"Jess!" Ion exclaimed with a tone of embarrassment. Juan and Catalina seemed to blush, and Jessica nodded at Sofia. "Yup! It means they love each other a lot." Jessica explained. In truth, her explanation was innocent. She could have said so much more but still kept it on the innocent side of things. "Wow! I am glad Mommy and Daddy love each other. I also glad Don and April love each other too!" Sofia exclaimed happily. Ion sighed heavily and shook his head; meanwhile, Jessica grinned. "Yup! Even I love my Ion!" Jessica shouted, and Sofia nodded with an innocent smile and a thumps-up. Jessica gave her one in return.

After that, Sofia seemed to be thinking about everyone else. "So, does anyone else here have someone they love that much?" Sofia asked bluntly. Those that weren't a couple started to become a bit bashful. Rose recalled the conversations she had with Alice and Sarah and the time she spent with John. She had blushed deeply. Alice and Sarah recalled the time they spent with Noah and Tyrone. Even they were blushing, and so were Noah and Tyrone. Josh seemed indifferent in the matter and shrugged it off; meanwhile, Jake just sighed heavily, wishing there was someone like that for him. John pretended to play the bashful boy act. He was quite good at it.

Jen wasn't in love with anyone but was lusting after someone, and that someone was standing beside her rival, April. She had her eyes locked on Don the entire time. She wanted to lock lips with Don but didn't know how to perform CPR. It was taught in school, but she never paid much attention, and now she wished she had.

As for Boss, he had his own sweethearts. Many of the Amazoness back in Downtown. He treated them all equally and fairly, even the Amazoness Queen. Just thinking about them caused him to smirk since he recalled all of it.

Then there was Ryan, Dillian, and Sussan. They didn't have anyone like that. So they didn't know what to think. As for Tim, he didn't have someone, but there was someone interested in him. Katelyn was stealing glances at him; meanwhile, Lilly had looked at Don for a split second then looked away. Finally, Rebecca and Natalie noticed everyone's reaction and just thought one thing.

'Ah, Youth~' Rebecca thought.

'So young...' Natalie thought.

They weren't too old, but they felt like there was a slim chance to meet anyone. Even Natalie, with her good looks, felt like she wouldn't meet anyone anytime soon. Sure, Mark, who was now dead, had fallen in love with her, but she didn't love him. It wasn't like she didn't care. It was more like she never got that feeling with him. As for Rebecca, it was more like she felt like she wouldn't meet anyone for her age.

Don could see everyone's reaction and just chuckled. "I am glad you are all getting along. Just remember protection. I have a bunch of rubbers courtesy of April." Don stated aloud, which caused everyone who was thinking of the matter to become even redder. "As for the two older women, I am sure there is someone out there for you. Don't lose faith. You are both beautiful." Don said without looking at them. Natalie blushed at the comment, and Rebecca even had a tinge of pink.

'You smooth bastard.' Melissa said in Don's head with a smirk across her face. Melissa was quite the Seductress. She seduced both men and women alike and had handed down her teachings to Don. What to say, and when to say it. What to do and how to get a reaction out of someone. The only reason she taught him this was to help him in the future. She didn't know how long Don would have been with her, but she knew if he planned to purge the world of filth, he would need to seduce some of his targets.

'I had a good teacher.' Don replied internally, which caused Melissa to chuckle lightly. 'I'm so proud of you! Now you just need a mistress... no! You need more than one. Two or three, actually wait, five!' Melissa was encouraging Don to get with more women, but Don wasn't that kind of person. If he hadn't been with April, then maybe he would have slept with several women just for the lustful craving and drive, but since he was with April, he saw no reason. Besides, April satisfied all of his desires and needs. So he just shook his head to his trainer; meanwhile, they continued to move onward, and everyone was having their own thoughts about certain people they liked.
