Chapter 46 - Past Memories (Sung-ho)

Sung-Ho's Perspective (Before the day they became CEOs)

The crunching of leaves created an offbeat sound as I threaded forward to the park. As I panned my eyes at my sides, the cherry blossom trees, also known as the beot-kkot, welcomed us. All the grass gradually turned green, accompanied by the colourful hues from the blossoming flowers. From the darker winter days, the sunlight took its form and gleamed the surroundings.

It was a lovely yet woeful day.

"Look, Sung-ho! Birds are flying everywhere!" My little brother roamed around the plaza, bringing with him a sketch pad filled with blank sheets.

Seo-jun peered his eyes upwards and readied a drawing using the pencil. He scribbled the image with his tiny looking fingers as close as he could portray within those blank pages. This brother of mine depicted the curving imagery of the flock above our heads with features looking adorable as ever! The style he had used was far from the professional look, yet it was pleasant for me to gawk at for the entire day.

I gave the drawing book to him since I saw talent in his eyes every time I etched the image of nature around me. It was a gift from his birthday as a sign of token before-,

The same group of birds chirped to their fullest as they darted towards the other side of the world. Four of them in total flew across the clouds, with a single bird falling from behind. Upon seeing the flying creature almost losing its wings, another bird dived in to rescue the kin and guarded its back. Once the fledgeling had regained its balance, the farthest bird tailing behind strayed off from its path.

A lengthy exhale escaped from my mouth as I whispered to myself the phrase, being a bird within the same feathers.

"If only I can bring him with me." I never looked forward to the future and knew nothing and everything about the world. With a single slice, the knot tied with my brother will sever our bonds.

"We still have to travel through there." I shook the thought away while marking my hands towards the vacant bench. Upon gazing from afar, I knew nobody was planning to sit on my favourite spot in the greensward.

Seo-jun hurriedly wobbled towards the designated mark and laid flat on the surface, with his sketch pad braced between his arms. After a few seconds, his hands moved like a stream racing through the pond.

The dull-looking sheet became vibrant, filled with wonder as I peered through his drawing. My little brother tried covering his work but soon gazed at me with a defeated look, knowing there was no stopping me from reviewing his art.

"That illustration looks amazing." I showered him with praise as I observed the outline from far away.

Seo-jun painted his cheeks with cherry hues, with the fade of pink after feeling flattered by my commendation. He sprung his hands and enveloped his face, concealing his bashfully look from me.

My orbs ignored Nickson. I caught my eyes staring at the image drawn on the paper. It had mixtures of multiple colours and told a story of the park. Upon scanning the sketch, I noticed the focus of the art.

It was the birds I saw before we reached this site.

"Why did you draw birds?" I tilted my head and questioned the primary subject depicted in the scene. It had piqued my interest that my bashful brother chose animals in his collection besides the many objects and living beings surrounding us.

Nature has been the first and everlasting love of my life. I am fond of looking at the skies, thinking of a cloud one day. But the currents never guided me to the path as it welcomed a different side of the world.

Within a couple of months, our father would ask us to come inside his office and teach us to handle a company. The old man never wanted the idea, but our mother had original plans. She wanted more than just the pot of gold. Since Nickson and I were her golden goose, she could not wait to dig up more gold than ever in her hands.

"Do you really love drawing, my brother?"

"Yes, I do!" Without a hint of doubt, my adorable brother gave me a reply worthy of an artist.

I kneeled beside him and gestured to the butler to approach the two of us. In his hands was a gigantic box wrapped in marvellous designs. The package was as titanic as Seo-jun if he stood tall without his shoes.

"Be careful. My gift is fragile." The servant heeded my words and placed the present before us, bowed, and exited the place. I returned his manner and expressed my gratitude before returning my focus to my dumbfounded Nickson.

"Happy birthday, Seo-jun" I glanced at the black monitor, notifying us of the schedule for today. I requested the company, from where I bought the tablet, to write his name on a piece of paper with a sticker of obsidian coloured cake beside him. That boy loved jet-black things more than any colour in the world.

"Thank you, Sung-ho. But what is this all about?" My brother waved his hand and eventually directed his aim at the goodie box in front of him.

I could almost discern the question marks popped out from his head, thinking to himself about the occasion. If there was one thing he could not handle, he forgets dates and events on the calendar. I am afraid that this problem will haunt him soon.

Seo-jun tried hiding his excitement but failed when he found his arms cuddling the scarlet ribbon holding together the present. He locked his eyes and crawled his fingers, making their way at the tip.

The snapping of the fragile ribbon echoed through our ears as Seo-jun revealed the object inside the box. His eyes widened at the sight of a titanic gadget that even overwhelmed his size.

"Open it more." Upon listening to my encouragement, Seo-jun resumed tearing up the gift and yanked the product from the encasement.

It was what he needed the most in his hobby and the only tablet available in the market. The limited-edition gadget was the only stock left inside the market. Luckily for me, I ordered the last batch and secured myself a graphics panel.

The appliance had its drawing pen used for the screen. I already checked some tutorials on the internet about handling such tools that my brother could use for his experiments. Woefully for Seo-jun, I could not help him with his drawings, considering the papers I must prepare for my upcoming news.

"Do you like it?" I watched him, waved the table in the air and checked all the buttons protruding from the technology.

After feeling content from his search, Seo-jun rested the gadget on the green floor and held the power button. Within a few moments, the black screen from the tablet changed into a gleaming background, revealing the chief applications running the tablet.

"Let's keep that thing inside the house for now," I suggested to the excited boy, who is eagered enough to try the technology at once.

The three of us head back to our humble abode and finish the chores first before doing any task. Once the butlers and maids notice our sparkling efforts, we are good at whatever we want for the time being.

I steal a glimpse at the door and find Seo-jun fiddling with the apps, the pen, and the screen. My brother has his mouth reaching up to his eyes with glee. As I walk with shaking legs, Nickson places the gadget on the table and draws the park we have gone to earlier.

Once he feels engrossed with his work, I sneak inside and trudge my way closer to the couch. I watched him for hours to finish his sketch. I never regretted my time spent with him since they limited my days for me to use.

A few hours passed by, yet Seo-jun refused to give up his throne. It had been four hours since he first held the pen in his hands and stroked the endless lines with various mixes of colours. After heaving out a sigh, he finally stretched his arms and relaxed.

"I need to show this to my brother!" Seo-jun turned around and saw my figure. I welcomed him with my extended arms, prepared to review his work.

We spent our time chit-chatting with each other until the left hand of the clock ticked to midnight. As we heard the gong, the servants fetched us from sleep.

"This day is the best day ever!" Seo-jun exclaimed before entering his room. He took his last glance and nodded at my sight. Gripped in his hands was the tablet I gave him.

We exchanged our goodbyes and headed separate ways. However, I was not planning to sleep for that night.

I needed to call someone.

"Hello, Chung-hee speaking." The person behind the line evenly spoke as he answered my call.
