Fighting at a distance would be a mistake even if the elf was a battle mage the bottom line of it was that he was still a mage, and that means a majority of the attacks he had were things he could do at a distance and in a wide scale. Asd knew he had to get up close and personal, at the very least he had to but the [Salvation] enough time as he wasn't so sure he would be able to defeat this guy, but at the very least he should be able to hold him back long enough for Gaia to cause a significant enough damage to the walls to have the others back off. This wasn't a fight they could all win, Asd was hoping to rely on the intimidation his superior technology could bring to the playing field.
