The Valosian could not remember the last time he had been so scared. He took a deep breath without taking his eyes off the glass lid.
"By the gods, she's really alive."
"She's not alive. She is a revenant now," said the Emperor, scornfully.
Chriseis, or rather the creature inside, hit the glass once more. Glax thought he was directly observed by her, but he didn't see her eyes.
One of the men who took care of the machines went to a lever and waited for an order from the emperor. When Glax saw what was going to happen, he asked with a wave of his hand.
"No…don't do this. Please."
"It's the only thing that calms the…thing inside." The man spoke, not knowing how to finish the sentence in front of the emperor and Kroton.
"I really don't know what to make of her. From Nikandros' account she is even harder to kill than a vselys." Caius let out his breath to show his apprehension.
