Chapter 1 - My Sweet Family.

"Dear diary, it's been five years since my last consumption of human blood. My family didn't want the humans to catch on to us. This transition was hard to bear in the beginning but became bearable after a year."

One of my brothers, James, disagreed with this diet. He swore to follow our parent's rules, but I know well of his disobedience. James was a caring person long ago, but something in him changed. It's not his fault. I blame myself for the way he feels. A part of me knows that it was my fault, but I couldn't do anything about it.

I had three other siblings apart from James. My two younger ones, Bella and Dante, were there. Our eldest sister was named Lanah. She comes by here and there.

Our parents were Kaleen and Ameera Williamson. To my knowledge, they were thousands of years old. What was crazy to me was that vampires reproduce human children. My parents never explained how it worked. That would explain how we were so young compared to them.

"Amir!" My mother shouted from across the house. I rushed to the study. "Yes, mother," I replied. She asked me if I was ready to start school. "Of course. I already have things arranged for tomorrow.

We just moved to North Carolina from Nevada. My parents chose Asheville, North Carolina, to reside in for the time being. Asheville High School is what my parents chose to enroll us in.

"Amir. Would you go tell your father to come see me?" My mother asked. I obliged and went to find my father.

On my way down the hall, I saw my brother James. I didn't say anything as we passed, but all he did was stare at me with hate written all over his face.

I entered my parent's room and said, "Father. Mother requested that you see her in the study." My father looked up at me from his desk and said, "Tell her I'll meet with her momentarily." I acknowledged him and went back to the study to tell her.

When I made my way back to the study, I heard my mother scolding James about something.

"There was an animal attack announced on the news," My mother shouted. "What does this have to do with me?" James expressed condescendingly.

"Watch your mouth, child," My father's voice echoed from down the hall. My younger siblings and I snapped our necks at the door, and a bat flew into the room. The bat transformed, and it was our father.

"James, I don't care what has gotten into you. You will not feed on the humans of Asheville," Our father demanded.

James seemed to have become more careless and said, "I told you that I don't know anything about this." My father swiftly went to James's face and said, "The person's body was drained of blood. Hence, the reason why we had to move here."

James was frozen in place. The sensation in the room made it clear as to what was going on. Our father was using his mind control on him.

"James, did you or did you not attack a human recently?" My father asked. Everyone in the room was like a deer in headlights.

James paused for a moment before saying that he didn't attack the person. But sadly, he gave himself away by saying that he hadn't attacked anyone recently. Father looked to Mother and said, "This one needs some training, Ameera."

"Of course, my love," She replied.

He left the room, and James was paralyzed for roughly half an hour. But I could feel James's anger from across the room. I excused myself and went to my room.

Once I made it to the stairs, the doorbell rang. I looked through the peephole and saw an unfamiliar face. I opened it, and there was a lady and a man with baked goods in their arms.

"Hello sweety, are your parents home?" The lady asked. I turned my head and called for my mother. I looked back and noticed a strange smell coming from the baked goods. They noticed my curiosity, and the man asked, "Is there something wrong, young man?"

I nodded my head and said, "No." My mother walked to the door and asked the strangers what was going on.

"Oh, you must be Mrs. Williamson. I am Holly Kain. This is my husband, Micheal Kain, and we're your neighbors."

"Oh, of course. Is this a home-welcoming gift?" My mother asked. They both expressed that they wanted to be the first to welcome us to the neighborhood. My mother noticed me daggering the baked goods.

"It appears one of us wants to see what's in the basket," My mother said before chuckling. They handed me the baskets, and my mother told me to sit them in the kitchen.

I don't know what was in these baskets, but they were triggering my senses. I just wanted to eat everything. I stuck my hand into the basket and pulled out a muffin. I snuffed it one time, and I couldn't help myself. I don't even eat human food. I didn't know why I was intrigued.

I put the muffin near my mouth, and my mother immediately said, "Amir, take that away from your mouth." I dropped the muffin and said, "I don't know what that was."

She walked into the kitchen and picked one up. She smelled it and said, "There are garlic petals on it."

She grabbed the basket and rushed to the basement. I followed her and watched her throw them into the fireplace. "Don't take candy from strangers, Amir," She said before leaving the basement.

I finally made it to my room. I reopened my diary and added a new entry, "Dear diary, I met some of my new neighbors. They gave us some baked goods that were polluted with garlic petals if they knew something about us. How would they know?"

I concluded my entry and put my journal on my dresser.

There was a knock on my door. Following that knock was my older sister entering my room.

"Lanah?" I asked confusingly. She chuckled and said, "I'm home."
