Chapter 5 - Sigh... Kian

"Sigh… I am… soooo exhausted," the words came out of my mouth as if they were fighting my lips to let them go. I was so wasted.

Goodness, my left cheek was on to the bar counter while my eyes looked at the jar in front of me. I think it was trying to tell me something, maybe that I should stop holding the handle, or not? It was difficult to say. I think I was so drunk and I was imagining things… then… wait, the voice of that little squirrel is resounding in my ear.

'It is the tenth time, Master.'

"I hate that brat…" I mumbled again for the nth time this day. Now, I am regretting so much, bringing that brat with me. Who does he think he is? My dad? He even confiscated my bag and chest full of golden coins. But I am not crying, at the last minute, I managed to steal something… hehehe…

"I hate him… why doesn't he just make more food and shut up…"

After lying in the counter of 'The Rotten Gentleman' tavern for a few hours, maybe one, or two or maybe the whole night until the singer stopped her show. I gave Linda three-plus coins of gold, or so I thought. I don't know how many, but she seemed happy, that is what matters, right? Hopefully, that brat doesn't yell at me again because of that.

Then with three empty jars of beer now in my stomach, I don't think I will ever remember if that little squirrel will get angry or not the next morning.

"One… two… threewww…" my head is spinning. I lost count of how many jars I drank when the handsome bartender winked his eyes at me. He was doing it on purpose just to make me order again, and again. Mugs of beer or jars of wine, or I am not sure what else I ordered. Will he offer himself too?

Sigh, … who can blame me when those bright blue eyes and that shining smile that was sparkling like the sun were making my legs shake. If he knew the spell he was putting me under, then I will be so ashamed to call myself a magician, and a mighty one at that.

This man… sigh… this man is what attracted me to this tavern in the first place, like a little lost puppy with heart-shaped eyes when his master arrived.

His name was Kian. He told me to call him Kian, not bartender Kian, just Kian… sigh… in the most wonderful way. He smiled and took my hand, then, as I started salivating, he kissed the back of my hand like a true gentleman. He waited for me to wipe the drool from my mouth before guiding me to the tavern. What a wonderful first encounter…

The day I arrived at this town after months of traveling with a wandering troop, I was looking for a tavern to cheat. Unexpectedly, I found this guy on the market having trouble carrying some boxes of beer. Then I noticed the apron, the strong muscles in the arms, the abs, the smile, the eyes and… anyway how can I not know that he was some kind of bartender?

He took me to the inn, what a mischievous and flirty guy, I thought at first. Then he introduced me to the innkeepers, that moment my act of poor Jane started. I knew Kian also worked there and lived in a room on the second floor. Then as destiny and need had always guided me in this life. I ended in his room, many times when he was showering. Well, I have to tell him that I was helping Madame Tate carry the water for his bath, didn't I?

"Darling…" the voice of the old woman woke me up from my happy reminiscing. Then I heard my face hit the table and my beautiful forehead cry from the pain, it even infected my eyes, as they were crying too. What a pair of weaklings!

Madame Tate was giggling at my pathetic appearance. Well, I didn't look quite good, my face couldn't be described with any other word but pale and dark and tired and ghostly. Then the many shouts of the customers of 'Ah, a ghost!' were already giving me a headache. Can't they shout a bit lower? It is not that I wanted to appear behind them on purpose.

"Darling, you should rest more," she gave me another beer, though.

"I know, I tried but the more I get it wrong the more I wanted to do it right."

She looked at me and smiled. "The flower arranging training with Marcus? Is that exhausting?"

Oh my, she almost discovered me there.

"Right, the flower arranging thing," however, how will they not know that I am not lying blatantly when my cheeks are filled with dust and my hair is an explosion mess, even my dress has some marks and parts that are missing. Is flower arranging such a dangerous job?

I looked at her face, searching for some suspicion on her expression, she should have it, right? Come on, show it to me. I want to see a long narrowed gaze, a furrowed brow, and some horizontal line in the lips. Come on, ask me why I look like some kind of soldier that just came from the war zone, or like a circus worker that had an issue with the fireworks. Come on!

"Darling, just go and take some rest, I will prepare the bath for you," she didn't ask. Goodness, what should I do to make people suspicious of me?

Sigh... What an exhausting day.

Not that I wanted someone to ask about my interesting life inside that basement, but at least, I wanted to entertain myself with something other than the scoldings from Matty. That little squirrel had been sending me to the trial chair every time I spent money on materials, and resources for my experiments and magnificent inventions.

He said, "Master, how can you spend that much money? Do you think money grows on trees? Those useless machines will bring us to the ruin."

Then he will go and tell Jena, and she will be like, "Miss Veil, how can you spend that much money when you are not advancing from the starting point? At least you have to bring more money if you want to spend that much on useless inventions."

Then I will go and cry in secret in the kitchen, eating the cake that little squirrel baked the night before. Humph… I bet he is looking around for me, ready to beat me. So… I decided that this place, with the soft and gentle, but a bit greedy, Madame Tate should be my safe hideout.

Let's go to help Kian with his bath, shall we?
