Chapter 181 - Blood

The darkness may have been gone but the air outside Dexia City was heavy.

Katherine, Clarisse, Kan, and the rest of the group ventured out into the deserted streets. The only entities they encountered were the eerie, looming silhouettes of the Adept Knights. These imposing war machines stood sentinel, their powerful forms etched with an otherworldly, ethereal glow. With trepidation, the group decided to make their way to Clarisse's house, situated on the city's outer fringe, an area known for its tranquility and isolation.

As they navigated the quiet and dimly lit streets, Katherine couldn't help but voice her unease. "This... it's all so strange. Dexia City is never this empty, even during a crisis. And the Adept Knights... they're everywhere. It's like they're guarding something."

Alice, ever the analytical thinker, chimed in, "You're right, Kath. This feels like a trap. We need to be cautious."

On the back, Clarisse felt bad. She knew Alice was heavily injured and shouldn't be able to fight. The same went for Sebastian Krahl and William Crois who was more of an academic.

Katherine, her senses heightened by years of adept training, noticed movement up ahead. Three Adept Knights emerged from the shadows, their luminous forms casting an eerie glow upon the deserted streets. It was clear that these machines intended to confront them.

With no other option, Clarisse, Katherine, Kan, and the rest of the group prepared for a confrontation. Their collective powers surged, ready to meet the mechanical giants head-on. Clarisse's voice carried a note of determination as she changed to Claire. "We can't let them capture us. Stand your ground!"

The battle commenced, a clash between human ingenuity and advanced machinery. The Adept Knights fought with precision and power, their weapons unleashing devastating energy beams.

However, Clarisse and her companions, fueled by their desire for freedom and the need to unravel the mysteries surrounding the city, held their own.

Claire's mastery over her spirit fire manifested in blazing torrents of crimson flames. Kan's mysterious ability allowed him to manipulate objects with incredible precision, turning debris into weapons. The others, too, exhibited their unique Anima abilities, combining their strengths to outmaneuver the relentless Adept Knights.

It was a grueling battle, but their determination and resourcefulness paid off. After a prolonged struggle, they managed to disable the Adept Knights, their mechanical forms sparking and sputtering as they lay defeated on the darkened streets.

Breathing heavily, Clarisse took a moment to assess the situation. "We can't stay here. More of those things might show up, and we don't know what they're guarding. Let's hide at my house first then we can plan our next step."

Kan nodded in agreement while speaking with his amateurish English. "I still don't understands your words very well but okay. Count with me."

"Sorry kids but your journey ends here."

A sneer could be heard from afar before a a single man in a red suit stepped towards them. It had been long since

Out of thin air, a middle-aged man materialized before them, his presence as enigmatic as it was abrupt. He was dressed in a flamboyant red velvet suit, and his eyes remained hidden behind sunglasses so dark that they seemed to absorb all light, leaving them as impenetrable as an abyss.

Clarisse's heart skipped a beat as recognition dawned upon her. "Mr. Kyle?" she whispered, almost unable to believe her eyes. The man before her is undeniably Luccas' dad, and he looked the exact same as she recalled.

The man acknowledged her with a nod and a small, knowing smile. "Indeed, dear Clarisse," he replied in a voice that held a note of melancholy.

"But you are wrong about something." A evil smile flashed in his face. "That weak man has long been dead. I was just borrowing his face and money for a while."

The man's figure began to warp and shift. His human guise gave way to something far more menacing. In a swirling vortex of crimson energy and ominous smoke, he transformed into a towering red demon, his true form. Valmoneth, the demon mercenary, now stood before them, radiating an aura of malevolence.

As Valmoneth's towering demonic form loomed over them, Clarisse felt a surge of determination welling up within her. She knew that she couldn't let this demon harm her friends, especially after the revelation about Luccas's father. With a steely resolve, she turned to Katherine, her voice unwavering despite the dire circumstances.

With a deep breath, Clarisse closed her eyes for a moment, calling upon her inner power. In that fleeting instant, her form shifted, and when her eyes opened again, she was Claire once more.

"Katherine, take the others and run, go to my house and call my mother, she's the only one who can kill this demon." Claire commanded, her eyes locked on Valmoneth. "I'll hold him off."

Katherine nodded, her trust in Clarisse unwavering, and quickly ushered the rest of the group to retreat to a safer distance. They fled down the darkened streets of Dexia City, leaving Clarisse to face the monstrous demon alone.

As Claire, she summoned forth crimson flames, the very embodiment of her fiery spirit. The flames danced and flickered around her, forming a protective aura of searing heat. With newfound power coursing through her, she confronted Valmoneth.

The battle between fire and demon fire ignited, and the once-quiet streets of Dexia City became a battlefield. Buildings crumbled and streets cracked as their fiery clash sent shockwaves of destruction in all directions. Flames roared, consuming the surrounding structures, casting a blood-red glow over the chaos.

Valmoneth, a master of fire, summoned forth flames that eclipsed even the most ferocious of infernos. Each blaze surged forth with malevolence, growing more formidable and sinister than the last. Firestorms erupted from his hands, menacing to engulf everything in their path. The conflict between Claire and Valmoneth transformed the city into a cataclysmic spectacle, an elemental showdown that shook the very foundations of the city.

As the battle raged on, it seized the attention of the Adept Knights patrolling the city. Initially, they faltered, uncertain about which side to align with in this furious confrontation. Valmoneth's grotesque form and Clarisse's unwavering determination to safeguard the city gave them pause.

Recognizing the urgent need for allies, Clarisse raised her voice above the deafening tumult of the battle. "Adept Knights, you must discern the true threat here! This demon imperils all of Dexia City. Stand with me, and together, we can vanquish him!"

The Adept Knights, torn between their loyalty to their superiors and the horrifying demon menacing them, exchanged uneasy glances, seeking guidance among themselves. Gradually, they began to shift their allegiance, understanding that the protection of the city and its inhabitants was of paramount importance.

Drawing upon their own anima energy, the Adept Knights raised their swords in a united front against Valmoneth, ready to defend their city. However, the demon merely scoffed, a sinister grin spreading across his fiendish visage.

"Idiots," Valmoneth hissed. With pure demonic energy, he exerted control over the pilots, causing them to lose command of their knights. In a swift motion, his razor-sharp tail cleaved through two mechs, reducing them to rubble.

"No, you won't take them!" In a desperate bid to protect the knights, Claire conjured a swirling cloud of fire around them while magma erupted from the ground in fiery bubbles.

"You are feeble," Valmoneth sneered, his chilling laughter echoing in close proximity to her ears. His talon-like claw pierced through her upper torso, a malevolent flame searing away every trace of the fiery spirit within her veins.

'No…' As life dimmed in her eyes, the infernal fires of the demon eradicated Claire, returning her to her mortal form as Clarisse. Weakened and defeated, she was cast aside onto the unforgiving ground by Valmoneth, who muttered to himself in mild surprise.

He hadn't anticipated that this young woman would awake as a spirit of fire once infused with demon blood. Project Blue Blood truly produced some anomalies, he thought.

In the profound depths of her mental world, Clarisse embarked on a journey through the tapestry of her memories, where her life and Claire's were interwoven like threads of fate. It was a landscape where the lines between her own thoughts and Claire's emotions blurred, forging a connection that transcended individuality.

As they traversed this amalgam of memories, Clarisse and Claire experienced a remarkable phenomenon. Their distinct identities seemed to meld, and the boundaries that once separated them became fluid. It was as though their very essence was coalescing into a single, unified consciousness, a fusion of two souls that had once existed as separate entities.

Within this shared mental space, Clarisse and Claire exchanged thoughts and feelings. "Claire," Clarisse's mental voice resonated softly, "do you feel it too? This merging of our beings. it's unlike anything I've ever experienced."

Claire's presence radiated warmth and understanding. "Yes, Clarisse. It's as though our very souls are converging, knitting together the fabric of our existence. We're becoming one person, a harmonious blend of our strengths and experiences."

Their profound connection continued to deepen as they ventured further into the recesses of their shared consciousness. The memories underwent a remarkable transformation, shifting from their personal experiences to something altogether different.

A vision of place similar to earth but far more advanced and primitive at the same time.

These were not Clarisse's memories, nor were they Claire's; rather, they were etched into the very core of their being, a legacy that transcended time and space.

In these memories, that world had undergone a profound metamorphosis. It was a world where animals had evolved, acquiring elemental powers and human-like intellect.

In this world, the few remaining humans had become the companions and pets of these evolved animals. The balance of power had shifted, and the animals reigned supreme, wielding the forces of nature in what would be known as the Wild Age.

As Clarisse and Claire observed these mesmerizing memories, the narrative progressed. A crimson moon cast an eerie glow over the landscape, and within its luminous embrace, the silhouette of a man emerged. He possessed long, flowing red hair that billowed like flames, and his eyes gleamed with an otherworldly intensity. A crimson choker adorned his neck, its significance shrouded in enigma.

With a wave of his hand, crimson flames covered the whole sky burning the very fabric of space of time, those touched by it were totally erased from existence.

From this unstoppable being, Clarisse and Claire felt proximity, resonance coming form their blood.
