Chapter 162 - The Two Fools

The white fire that covered his body died out and with it, his body shrink back, revealing a body covered cuts and bruises.

Inside his sea of consciousness, Thomas saw the bright sun, his soul and the yellow chain. It took only a second for him to understand what was happening.

It was clear that amount of power was too much for his body and now without a ounce of strength left.

Right now, he was probably lying on the ground completely defenseless and butt-naked. Well his body as a titan is very sturdy so none of the beasts in the island should be capable of injuring him.

This thought was what kept Thomas calm the entire time as this had been somewhat expected. The yellow chain was keeping it's seal around his soul and didn't seem aware of his presence there, it was too busy watching movies from his memory.

Right now, he was watching the fourth movie of that franchise of blue alien people that came out just two years ago.

It was said the director took so long to make this one the studio had to put his brains in a robot so he could finish the movie.

"I should leave him to it." Thomas stepped away and just gave a walk around his own consciousness.

Thought his walk, Thomas saw himself back in his grandparents house in London, then on his elementary school with Luccas. Him and the other kids playing around in the playground.

The time both his dad and brother had been sucked into the nexus by the sky breach. The following years on the Adept Institute, the false friends he made as well the few worth to have.

True not all of his memories were positive, and sometimes he felt as if everything he did was uselless but looking back now, Thomas didn't regret the choices he made now.

It was a blessing the system came the time it time, or he would end up as that "him" from the heart's memories.

At one point, Thomas suddenly stops and turns his eyes to the moon.

"Hey, isn't about time you reveal yourself?"

By the time he lowered his gaze, there was a person identical to him across the streets.

"I knew you would show up." Thomas said with a smile.

"Oho..." The inner demon seemed particularly shocked but it recovered very quickly and replied as a smile as well. " All I want is to eat you so I can take your place and see the outside. Don't ever think I want to be friends with you."

"No, I'm not afraid." Thomas was the first to stand up, and then he continued. "I have the Archis now while you are indeed a my inner demon so I can see it, there no aura of sin inside you anymore..."

Even since merging with the Archis, he was able to feel the aura of sin as well anyone that has been infected by it. Yet now, he could feel it was not just himself that changed after the merger, his inner demon has also been totally cleared of the baleful aura's influence. Now, he's no different from Thomas himself.

Before this, he still has some reservations towards this being that wanted to take over and cause chaos.

'Well, having to be stuck in here for all this time and living in my shadow must be boring as hell so I can understand your desire to leave. It's not a sin to wish for freedom.' That was what Thomas honestly thought after realizing the current state of his inner demon.

Unlike Kez's or Arthorias' inner demons, this one has been truly freed from the influence of the baleful and like Thomas it was above it.

All it wanted now was to scape this prison that is his sea of consciousness and live as an individual.

Thomas sighed before he continued, "I understand what you are saying, but I can't let you leave..."

At this point, he could felt he somewhat calm inner demon instantly grow hostile, but it didn't attack immediataly and instead just waited for him to finish.

"As I stated, I can't let you leave. There is no other body for you to posses and honestly neither am I interested of handing over my own body. You are the sum of all fears desires and memories, but above all you are myself. I know what I'm about to say is very, very cheesy, but let's be one again, you and me."

"..." The inner demon froze, it indeed had Thomas memories so it understood his main self like no one else.

Now they were two, but they were originally one. This kind of plot has been made god knows how many times.

In those kind of scenarios, the best resolution and also the most commonly used in novels, shows and movies was for the for main character and his other self to accept each other and become one.

This was a very cliché path but still the one who best benefited both of them and Thomas knew that. Though, he wouldn't dare try it if the inner demon was still affected by the aura of sin, that would make it impossible to predict.

The inner demon stood there in deep thought, seconds passed that felt like weeks then it suddenly began to laugh. "Hahaha, You really are a fool and I guess I must be one too. Alright, so let's both of us be fools and get this over with."
