The single skin-colored horn was the last to appear right in the back of his head next to his ear. As soon the transformation was completed, it dispersed right away.
The pain he felt went straight to his soul as he started losing his sense of self.
[Master, is the demon pearl finally forming?!] The yellow chain noticed something had gone wrong and tried to speak inside Thomas' mind who couldn't hear anything. However, even he understood that his demonic physique was getting stronger. Yet, his heart only grew more and more afraid instead of excitement towards his advancement even if he couldn't tell why.
Before him, orange and purple mists surrounded his body then started melting onto his skin as it flowed through his body.
When the two kinds of mists met right next to his heat, the pain suddenly multiplied as a thin pear was starting to take form. But when he least expected, a mysterious interrupted his breakthrough and seemed to pull out his soul from the body.
Thomas was transported into his own consciousness where he found a incomparably bright source of light before his eyes. The light he saw didn't have a definite color and was always changing, similar to his own anima energy.
When he got a closer look, he noticed something was holding back its shine, but he couldn't see it from there.
As he stood in the presence so strangely powerful, Thomas felt a chill down his spine as a huge pair of grey eyes appeared about the light.
These incomparably eyes were like a force of heaven which Thomas couldn't resist, a similar feeling when that man tried to use the control his body.
The orange and purple radiance were pushed back by this invisible yet he was frozen in the spot. Even the system froze and stopped working, cutting all contact between Thomas and the internal space of the system.
Thomas tried to mobilize his anima energy but instead of heeding his call, all the energy threads floated to the sky and excitedly jumped before the eye as if kids meeting their long-lost dad after many years.
In that instant it was as if all the anima energy in his body turned against their master the moment those eyes appeared. He felt like a middle-aged woman who just found out her husband replaced her by a twenty-year old girl.
[How Interesting… It has been so long since such a tasty soul has presented itself before this Lord.] A voice that was both holy and devilish, full of endless spirituality transmitted to his ears as the eyes were locked onto the source of light. With the eyes above him, Thomas felt he was before a being of infinite power. A strange feeling surfaced on his heart to the point he even though of killing himself if the eye so willed it.
He felt like submitting himself to the owner of the heavenly eyes and giving his everything when a moment of clarity flashed past his eye.
'That's!' Only now did he understood why he felt unease back then when he first assimilated Anima Energy..., The anima energy which humans had been used all along belongs to such a powerful master!
'No, I can't let this happen.' Feeling he was about to lose everything, a sense of despair never felt before, then replaced by pure resolve.
In the depths of his consciousness, the bright dot of light expanded together with his thoughts.
The yellow chain on his wrist vibrated lightly as the light of his soul expanded. The light which emanated from the depths of Thomas' sea of consciousness was so powerful even the owner of the gray eyes had been startled by it.
[Wait, He's not planning to...]
'AAAAAhhhhhh!!!' Guided by his pure, unshakable will, Thomas sent all the light through his energy pathways and with it, all the six months of accumulated anima energy had been completely purged in matter of seconds. Fading together with it figure of the gray eyes lost which its color and dispersed in the background.
The pain of completely wiping out his foundation as an adept was inimaginable, Thomas didn't even had time to thing as both his body and mind collapsed into a deep sleep.
"Thomas!" Thum*
He felt a soft and fragrant body rush to him, a head rested on his chest and he could faintly hear sounds of weeping.
Thomas tried to get up as Clarisse rose her eyes to get a look at his face. Looking into his eyes, she froze for a moment then started weeping again. "I'm so sorry, sorry..."
"Huh?" Thomas was confused by it then when he got to look at his surroundings noticed he wasn't in the basement but in a hospital room.
Other than Clarisse, his mom, Katherine, Alice, even his cousin Rodrigar were all there, eyes filled with sorrow.
