That night after Fu Heng drove Ling Xu back home, Ling Xu sat at her desk as she held his jacket.
"Here's your jacket," as she held it out to him.
"Hold on to it. You need it more than me." He said it with a smile, and then drove away.
Ling Xu felt the warmth and his scent from his jacket. Her heart started beating, and she could hear it.
Friday came, and Ling Xu woke up early. Usually she would stay in bed until the afternoon, but today's her first day working.
She'll be working with kids, so she didn't dress too formal. Ling Xu wants to look comfortable around the kids, and so she wore a white t-shirt with a red flannel over it, and paired it with a blue jean.
Mei Yi already made breakfast, and made sure she ate before going.
Ling Xu doesn't know how to drive, so she rode her bike to the art gallery.
Her class wasn't that big. Only ten kids, and around the age of 6-10. Ling Xu helps the kid wear their painting apron, and allow them to free paint as the first lesson. Ling Xu wants to see their artistic side without giving much directions. Art is supposed to be fun, and that's how she learned it too.
Art lesson lasted for an hour and a half. Ling Xu helped the kids clean themselves up, and slowly dismissed them. She stayed behind and cleaned the classroom.
"Xiao Xu?" as Fu Jing Mei knocks on the door and walks in the room.
"Auntie Fu."
"How was the first day?" as Fu Jing Mei asks.
"The kids are nice, and listened very well." Ling Xu is telling the truth, and she truly does love the kids.
After saying goodbye to Fu Jing Mei, Ling Xu got on her bike to head back home.
The red light is flashing, and Ling Xu slowly stops at the stop light. It's only 1pm, and the weather outside is so nice. But besides work and home, Ling Xu has nowhere else to go.
The light changed to green, and Ling Xu got her feet back to the pedals. Suddenly, a red car turns to Ling Xu's direction, and it seems to be out of control. Ling Xu quickly turns the bike to the other direction, and good thing the car didn't crash into her. But because she turned too fast, the bike was unbalanced and she fell down.
The traffic police came, and the driver was taken to the hospital. Ling Xu said she was fine, but the police insist on taking her to the hospital to make sure everything is fine.
Ling Xu sits at the ER while waiting for a nurse to come.
Just three days ago, she came to the hospital and now again. The nurse comes and quickly recognizes Ling Xu. This is because last time when Ling Xu came, the nurse was supposed to go home but got called back.
The nurse helped her disinfect her hand, and knees.
"Make sure your wound doesn't touch water," as the nurse reminds her before she leaves.
Ling Xu thanks her, and walks out the room.
She looks at her left hand, and tries to think how to hide this. If Mei Yi sees this, Ling Xu could already picture her worried face.
Ling Xu is a lefty, and so she does many things with her left hand. If she suddenly switches eating with her right, then Mei Yi will definitely realize it. As Ling Xu wonders if she should just tell Mei Yi, someone bumps into her.
"Sorry," as Ling Xu thought she was the one that didn't see.
"Can you watch where you're going. I see that you're a young lady, and can't believe you don't even watch where you're going." The old lady said and started saying things very loud.
Ling Xu said sorry, but it seems like the old lady doesn't want things to just be over.
People started to get crowded around her, and Ling Xu felt uneasy.
"I've already said sorry. What else do you want?" as Ling Xu said.
The old lady then started a tantrum.
"Everybody come and see. A young lady is bullying an old lady."
As Ling Xu hears those people whispering about her, she doesn't know what to do. The elevator door opens, and a doctor walks through the crowd.
"What happened?"
"Dr. Lan, it's that old lady again," as the female nurse said.
Lan Bo then saw it was the same old lady that always caused a tranturm here.
"Yo yo yo, let's see who's here again," as Lan Bo walks up to them.
The old lady gives him a glance, and then shifts back. Of course she knows who he is.
"Want me to go call the security and see who's the real fault here?" as Lan Bo saids while smiling down at the old lady.
The old lady of course knows that he'll do what he says. She then threw a few words, and left. Seeing that she left, the rest of the crowd starts to leave too.
Ling Xu stood there dumbfounded.
"Are you okay?" as Lan Bo asks, seeing Ling Xu standing there.
Ling Xu nods. "Thank you."
Seeing that she's fine, his phone starts to ring.
"I'm on the first floor," he saids to the person on the phone.
"Thanks again," and Ling Xu starts walking away. She was told to go to the counter to get medicine.
The elevator door opens, and Fu Heng walks out.
"Didn't you say wait at the parking lot?" as Fu Heng walks over to Lan Bo.
"Something happened, and now it's fixed. Let's go."
As they walk to the exit, Ling Xu just got her medicine.
She stops at her pathway, as she and Fu Heng look at each other.
"You know her?" as Lan Bo asks Fu Heng.
Fu Heng nods and then walks up to her.
"What happened?" as he asked and saw the injury in her left hand.
"Uhmm it's just a small cut." Ling Xu's eyes didn't look at him as she said it.
Fu Heng knows she's lying. "Tell me the truth or else I'm gonna tell Mei Yi." He knows that she cares about Mei Yi, and wouldn't want her to know.
Ling Xu gives him an eye. "It was a car accident, and I fell down from my bike. It's not a big deal," as she saids and moves her hand around.
Fu Heng looks at her, as she isn't taking her injury seriously. He touches her left hand, and sees Ling Xu wince.
"You didn't eat lunch yet right?" as he saids.
Ling Xu shakes her head.
"Come with us," as he saids and holds her right wrist.
