(This one is going to be a little longer than normal.)
She ended up running into the gate as she wasn't paying attention, unable to see clearly, and tripped after she got inside before falling to her knees and breaking down sobbing, putting her hands on the floor in front of her knees. 'No, I need to get to the hospital! I have to say good bye!!!' The villains that were at the base were completely shocked at this since she didn't show emotion when she was with them the first time. "Are you ok Nakama?" She just nodded then recognized the voice and backed away before wiping her eyes and looking around for the door so she could get out. "Door is behind you. It's obvious you have somewhere to go. Good luck." Kurogiri said and sighed. She nodded and got up before sprinting out and looking for the hospital, trying to get there in time. She saw the corner of it and booked it in the direction she needed to go and was crying the entire time.
When she finally got there, she burst through the doors and ran to the front desk. "Hi, I'm here to visit my mom..... Nakama?" Masa said in a strained voice as her throat was hurting and it was still painful to speak. The nurse looked up at her and told her the room number with a sad look on her face. 'I'm too late aren't I?' She ran to the right room and barged in, sinking to her knees when she didn't hear the heart monitor making any noise. 'Mom..... I'm so sorry..... I wish I could have protected you like I couldn't do with dad.... I'm so sorry....' She broke down sobbing and held her head in her hands.
~~~Meanwhile at the stadium~~~
"Masa wins! We will have an interlude to fix the arena and so I can update Eraserhead about one of his students." Midnight walked out of the fields and went to the room where Mic and Aizawa were at. All the students and faculty went to do what they needed to. "Aizawa, we need to talk. It's about Masa." Aizawa immediately gave her 100% of his attention and nodded.
"Alright, what is it Midnight?" He asked, worried as he looked at Midnight. Mic was also looking over, worried for his student.
"Well, she spoke. Verbally and audibly spoke. All she said was that she needed to go. She didn't say why and she didn't say where. I did hear her on the phone and it sounded bad." Midnight explained and looked between the two worried herself. "So, do we want to put the festival on hold or continue?"
"Let's give her a few minutes and if she doesn't come back in a half hour then we will continue." Aizawa said and sighed. The other teachers there nodded and went to do their own thing. "I don't know what we can do until she comes back."
"True, let's just hope she's alright...." The other teachers in the room nodded their agreement.
~~~Meanwhile with the students~~~
They were all ecstatic to hear Masa won but were shocked when Midnight said there would be a break so she could update Sensei on one of them. 'Who could it be?' They looked around and saw only Bakugou and Masa were close enough to Midnight for them to have something to be said about them and they knew it couldn't be something with Bakugou so it must have been Masa. 'But why her?'
~~~Meanwhile back with Nakama~~~
Masa was crying onto her mothers stomach. "Masa, I love you my little angel.... Stay strong. Reach and extend your goal of helping everyone you can." Her mother said weakly.
"I-I l-lo-love y-you for et-eternity m-mom.... I-I'll m-make you pr-proud. I-I pro-promise." She said between sobs, holding her hand.
"You already have made me proud. Just lead a happy life and I'll stay proud of y-you....." She took her last breath after that and all Masa did was write down the time her mom died, unplug the machines and get into the hospital bed with her mom and cry herself to sleep. Soon after, the doctors came in and saw what had happened and just left her after picking up the paper with the time stamp on it.
~~~Back with the teachers~~~
Aizawa got a phone call from the hospital explaining what had happened and where Masa was, and signaled for Midnight to continue the festival. Shoto came in first, Masa took second and Bakugou took third. Aizawa took Masa's medal and was going to give it to her. "I'll be back. Midnight, can you make sure everyone gets home safely? I have somewhere and someone to go visit." Midnight knew what was going on and just nodded while Aizawa left to go to the hospital where the last living Nakama was at.
When he got there, he was told the room number and he just went to the room and cracked the door open to see Masa sleeping on the bed, holding the body of her mother and the sight made him crack a smile. 'I promise, no one is ever going to hurt you ever again. I promise.' He went and sat in the chair next to the bed and watched her sleep for a few moments before deciding something and then falling asleep.
~~~Back with class 1-A and Midnight~~~
"Midnight, where is Aizawa sensei? What happened to Nakama? She deserves the first place medal. She is the strongest of us all." The class began to voice their agreement, curiosity and worry for their classmate. Midnight just ignored them, deciding to let Aizawa and Masa tell them when she came back. The kids pestered her the entire ride back to the school when she told them to get off the bus. They went to their locker room and got changed to go home.
~~~Back with Nakama and Aizawa~~~
Nakama was the first to wake up and she looked around to see she was still hugging her mom and Aizawa in the chair behind her asleep. She smiled to see that someone still cared about her and sighed before letting her mom go and sitting up to stretch and brace herself for facing her class and the teachers when they left. 'I don't wanna.... I just wanna be alone.' She gently shook Aizawa awake and gave a small thin smile as she forced herself to be numb so she didn't make him feel depressed like she was. He woke up after a moment and took a deep breath while sitting up and looking around, seeing Masa smile it made him proud that she wasn't completely broken. "Rhea, are you ready to go home?" She gave him a questioning glance. "School registry includes addresses." She just nodded and made a motion for him to lead the way. He nodded and put his hand on her shoulder, beginning to lead her out as he could tell she was breaking on the inside but he didn't know how to help her. "Hey, I've got a question for you. You can think about it for as long as you need." She nodded. "Do you want me to adopt you? I completely understand if you need time or don't even want it to happen at all. I can even give you the ability to be your own guardian if you'd prefer?" She held up three fingers and Aizawa nodded. "Alright, I'll talk to Nezu, the pros and the police later ok?" She nodded and walked to the lobby to be greeted by Nezu and Midnight and Mic.
"Hey little listener..." Mic said, the most unenthusiastic as he had been since Oboro Shirakumo died.
"Hey Nakama. My condolences." The other two offered with a small smile though Nezu worded it a bit differently.
"How do you know she's dead? I've just come out of that room. I didn't even talk to the doctors yet." Masa said softly, noticing the louder her voice was, the worse it hurt to speak.
"Aizawa called us and told us what was going on. We told the other teachers to help keep it a secret until you were ready to tell people." Masa turned to Aizawa before shrugging and turning back to the three in front of her.
"Alright, well, you guys talk, I'm going to go talk to the doctors about what happens next." She was still speaking softly and walking away, leaving the teachers there, not so shocked that Masa spoke as the students will be, but still pretty shocked. The teachers began talking and Masa went to a doctor and got their attention. "Who was the overseer of Nakama Emi?"
"That would be me. How do you know her?" The doctor said calmly. Masa sighed and crossed her arms.
"It would be kind of sad if I didn't know my own mom right? So, what's next? What happens now?" The doctor was shocked and nodded.
"Right, well, we get you a place to stay and people to take care of you. Every child deserves a parent." He said, trying to be gently with the matter.
"But not every parent deserves a child. This child had parents and she doesn't want anymore." She retorted, still speaking softly, not taking any of his crap. "I never will need another parent. I have a place to stay as well so don't even bother." She crossed her arms and gave him a look like try arguing with me I fucking dare you.
"Alright, well, that can't happen, you are a minor. You need a foster family." He said again, pushing it onto her a little which only served to irritate her.
"No. Now, what about my mother? What's the next step with her?" She changed the subject so she didn't go off on him.
"Well, do we want to cremate her or have her buried?" He asked, feeling her irritation and dropping it for now.
"First, there is no "we" and second, cremated. I'll figure her ceremony out as well. Also, Eraserhead is taking care of what will happen to me now so don't even bother." He just nodded and sighed as he watched her walk away to the teachers. "Alright, are we ready to go back to the school? I still need to change." The teachers nodded and began to lead the way out with her in the middle.
~~~Back at U.A with the rest of 1-A~~~
"I wonder where Aizawa went off to? With Nakama's medal none the less...." Momo said worried and concerned for both her sensei and classmate. Most of the class agreed though the only one who didn't seem to care was Katsuki.
"That damn extra is probably dying or some shit. Who the hell cares? We should be heading home and relaxing while we can." He said with a glare to the roof but internally, he was terrified of losing her just as much as they were. They all scolded him for being mean before continuing to chat about what might have happened right up until Nakama came in. She listened for a few minutes and finally heard enough to laugh.
"All those are funny as hell compared to what happened." She gave them her best smile though it was slightly strained. They all, except for Katsuki, Iida, and Momo, rushed her and hugged her telling her how happy they were that she was ok. 'I'm not sure that's true but sure...' Iida, Momo, Bakugou, and Nakama thought and Masa smiled and gave them all a hug before breaking it and saying she was going to go get changed, absolutely bewildering the children, but they let her go.
"Alright, there are a few things you need to respect about her now. Her space, privacy, leaving her be when she says no or just wants to be alone. There are things she will only tell a few people and those people do not tell those who don't know. If she says it's nothing then drop it. She has gone through a lot." Aizawa said before going to the teachers lounge after leaving his scarf on the table for Masa when she was done. 'Nani!?! He left his scarf laying about?!'
"Well, you heard him and you have seen her, now go home." Midnight said and they all began to go but Masa stopped them.
"Wait, I need to tell Iida and Bakugou something. Can they stay behind?" Midnight nodded after looking at her for a moment.
"Yeah, the rest of you go home already. You have two days to recover from any injuries. Now shoo." The students went to get picked up or walk and Bakugou and Iida went to Masa.
"What is it Nakama?" Bakugou just pointed to Iida and crossed his arms while Masa sighed and opened her arms, needing a hug.
"Please?" Her voice was soft but there was so much pain in it. Both boys realized she had just been hiding her emotions for a very long time and that she was finally slipping. They walked over and hugged her gently until she pulled them closer and began to cry softly. Iida just sighed and began to pet her head. Bakugou just held her even tighter.
"I'm so sorry Nakama. It must be hard." His words on top of the way she was being held made her feel safe in the world she was now struggling in and ended up crying harder. 'I probably don't even know the half of it. She must have been through hell and back for Aizawa...' He remembered his scarf and turned her towards it. "Sensei left his scarf. He didn't say why though. Do you want me to go get it?" She just shook her head and kept crying for another little while. Both boys just held her, saddened by the state she was reduced to.
"We-well, m-my m-moth-mother.....sh-she....." She tried to explain but tears just kept coming. "I-I g-got th-the c-call wh-while m-me and Bakugou were fighting today." She broke down again and both boys agreed she shouldn't be alone that night. Iida pointed to himself and Bakugou nodded. "Don't leave me here alone."
"I'll never let you go. Are you ready to go home then?" Iida asked and watched Masa nod as he looked to Bakugou who just moved away. Masa moved away and put Aizawa's scarf around her neck and felt it's weight be a secondary comforter to her.
"Let's go then. It's getting late. We need our sleep." Everyone nodded and began to leave and Masa just sighed as she wiped her tears and kept going.
"I'll make you proud mom. I promise you that. I'll be safe. You know that." She whispered and smiled gently as she followed the only students who knew out.
