Chapter 50 - Someone's nonsense

Diana awoke the next morning, startled.

She didn't expect to see Lucas in bed with her and still sleeping peacefully.

Diana's head was rested on his muscular arm and her arm was on his bare chest.

Diana gulped at the realization.

This is certainly a morning treat. It's like having a real live top model on her bed.

He looked like a hunk from a magazine cover.

Diana tried to recall the events leading up to this moment and her cheeks became warm in embarrassment at the recollection.

How did she even have the guts to make him stay last night?

She was tired and a little tipsy the previous night, that she didn't realize what went on after that.

She vaguely remembered having such dream of him being on bed with her. But at that moment, she thought it was too impossible. In her dream, they were even specially intimate.

But seeing that she is fully dressed in her pajamas, she wondered if something did happen or not.

Trying not to wake him up, she slowly crept out of bed and went outside of her bedroom.

Heather was about to leave the apartment when Diana got out.

"Hey.. Kyle came earlier and dropped off his stuff. He also said that he'll be waiting outside to take you both to work. Oh! And he also left breakfast. That man is so nice, he even got some for me too." Heather said.

"Umm.. Did you help me last night change into my pajamas?"

Heather wiggled her eyebrows. "Why? You think he was the one who helped you? Haha.. In the future, maybe! I did it last night though. Hahaha"

Diana wanted to pinch her but Heather escaped from her faster. She shut the door on Diana, and left to work.

But with this, Diana is certain that nothing happened between her and Lucas other than sleeping on the same bed.

She found the breakfast that Kyle brought and laid it on the table.

She then went back to the bedroom to wake up Lucas as they still need to get to work.

As soon as she opened the door, Lucas was already getting out of bed.

"Morning." Lucas's voice was a bit hoarse from sleep.

"Morning. Kyle brought breakfast, and your stuff too. Do your stuff first."

"Hmm.. Okay.." Lucas got up and went to the bathroom to groom himself.

Diana also got her clothes ready while waiting for Lucas to finish.

After getting ready for work, the two ate their breakfast quickly then went down to meet Kyle who was waiting in the car.

"Thank you for breakfast, Kyle." Diana thanked Kyle.

"No problem at all." Kyle replied, glancing at Lucas who looked satisfied. When his boss told him to go home by himself and pick them up in the morning, he thought of what his boss might need in the morning other than his clothes and toiletries. When he passed by The Waterfront Well, he was reminded of breakfast, so he turned back and ordered food for them.

"By the way, this week my schedule will be a little swamped so I won't be seeing you for a few days. I have to be out of the country for a seminar." Lucas let her know.

"Okay. Have a safe trip then. Make sure you eat your meals, no matter how busy you get." Diana reminded him.

"Of course." Lucas kissed her side of the head, interlacing his fingers with hers.

Diana was increasingly getting comfortable with Lucas's presence.

Whenever he's out of town or out of the country, he doesn't forget to call or text her at least a few times a day.

He would even send her random pictures that capture his interest.

Diana really liked this about him which is why she has no negative thoughts as his girlfriend.

Back at the company however, other than the top managers, nobody else knows about their relationship. The regular employees still didn't have any idea about them.

It's not because Lucas didn't want them to know about Diana. It was Diana's request that their work life will not be involved. So as not to invite unnecessary issues.

Their relationship has been smooth-sailing so far. She's always assured by him.

Until Veronica Turner appeared.

The woman is the daughter of the old friend of Hugh Ingram, Lucas's father. They meet every once in a while in social events attended by other rich families.

In their social circle, Veronica fancies herself as Lucas's childhood sweetheart and that she and Lucas have a mutual understanding that if they are already almost in their 30s, they will just match up and get married. This was a proposal she single-handedly made and to which Lucas just ignored as nonsense. Lucas didn't care about her nonsense at all.

Now that she is approaching 30 and Lucas already is, she is now claiming what she promised. She decided to become more proactive in getting close to him.

Which is why she requested her dad to let her join the seminar that Lucas will attend, claiming that it is expanding their business. Her family has a pharmaceutical company which is how they got acquainted with Lucas's family. Hugh Ingram and her father, Stanley Turner used to go to the same College, and were classmates in several subjects. They became reacquainted when they me again at an event.

Veronica made plans for the seminar, having her assistant arrange for her to be in the same hotel and same floor as Lucas. She also had her assistant ask about his schedule.

Her goal is to successfully seduce him within these 3 days abroad and go back as his fiancee. Who wouldn't accept a woman who would willingly bare her all for him?

She was determined to fulfill her long-time dream as his wife. She's fancied him since they were children. Even then, Lucas was already popular among the girls. Veronica would threaten the girls who would even look twice at Lucas. She would tell them that Lucas had already promised to be her husband and that if they would, Lucas would only hate them. She was still the same even when they became full-grown adults. She would threaten the others until they would be shaken off.
