Chapter 33 - Orange Marmalade

"...and a cup of coffee for me." Lucas finished his order, handing the menu to the waiter.

This is the second time she came to The Waterfront Well and inside Lucas's private room.

Prior to meeting him, she never had the chance to come here.

Diana fiddled at the napkin on her lap.

'What is this situation?'

"We'll have breakfast first. It's going to be a bit of a drive to the shop we're going to." Lucas explained.

"I see." Diana nodded in understanding. She thought for a moment, grasping at a topic to talk about. "So--uh...how's your week?"

Lucas crinkled his eyes in amusement, noticing Diana's nervousness. "It was the usual meetings and seminars. What about you? How was your weekend so far?" Lucas smiled, easing her discomfort.

"hmm..It was fun." A bright smile appeared on her face as she recalled yesterday.

"Oh? Where did you go?"

"Yesterday I met up with some coworkers and her roommate. We went to their apartment after having breakfast at a restaurant."

"Which restaurant was it?"

"The Modern Harvest.."

"What did you like about there?"

"Oh their food was good, though it can't be compared to here, it was still good for a small restaurant."

"I see. So, where did you go to next?"

"Ah..We spent the day pretty much dressing up." Diana chuckled, recalling the events the day before.

"Dressing up?"

"Yeah, it was awesome."

Lucas smiled softly. It was good to see Diana look animated talking about her day.

"The coworkers you are talking about…"

"Ah! It's Kate Lane and Miriam Chudwell. They are both in the same laboratory as me. We went to Kate's apartment which she shares with Armie Lee, she's a budding Fashion designer you see."

Lucas mouthed 'Oh'. He nodded in understanding.

"It's good to enjoy your time with friends." He was relieved to know that she was welcomed in her department and even found herself some friends.

"Yup. They're pretty nice people." Diana whispered.

Knock! Knock!

The door opened and in came the waiter with their meal. He left just as soon as he laid down all the dishes.

Diana grabbed a toasted bread and spread some butter and orange marmalade on it. Taking a bite, her taste buds sang.

"Mmmmmnn"

Lucas was amused at Diana's reaction when she ate the bread. "You like it so much?"

Diana nodded. She licked the corner of her lips that had orange marmalade. "I like having my toast with butter and orange marmalade. It's really good!"

"Ah.. I haven't tried it like that. I usually only eat my toast with just butter." He was curious how it would taste. The butter would obviously feel creamy and yet greasy. The marmalade would be really sweet.

"Do you want to try?" She offered, taking a slice of toasted bread.

"Sure." He couldn't pass up the chance of her preparing something for him to eat, although the things are already available on the table.

Diana happily lathered some butter and orange marmalade on the toasted bread and placed it on a plate. She then placed the plate near Lucas. "Here you go."

Lucas glanced at Diana before taking the bread. As he took a bite, the sweet taste of orange marmalade invaded his taste buds. His eyes widened. Swallowing, he glanced at Diana again. The latter had her chin rested on her hand.

"It's delicious. Very sweet. I like it. I might have it once in a while." Lucas stated.

"It is sweet, isn't it? Haha.." Diana was amused at how Lucas actually tried how she prepared her toast.

"Do you like sweets a lot? What about spicy food?" Lucas asked. He wanted to get to know her likes and dislikes. the more he knows about her, the better he could prepare where to take her next or what to give to her.

"Yup. I like spicy food too. But not too spicy. And you?" She recalled the time she accidentally ate a pepper. Her face was all red and felt smoke was coming out of her ears. It was worse when she had to use the bathroom afterward. It was too painful. It was twice painful than when it entered in her mouth.

"I like it as well." Lucas smiled.

The both of them kept talking about random stuff, getting to know each other better.

Lucas talked about his family a little. He told her about his two brothers and cousins, how they value family and make it a point to pay respects to their elders.

When Diana shared about her family, Lucas noticed that she became more timid.

"So, have you made progress with getting the scholarship?" Lucas asked, changing the subject.

Diana was startled at the change of topic. But she went along with it anyway, relieved that she doesn't have to talk about her family anymore.

"Not yet. I've decided that I'll take the exam for Medical Laboratory Scientist first." Diana revealed.

"Ohhh.. That's a good idea. Let me know when you'll take the exam." Lucas said.

"Okay."

The drive to the tailor shop was quick. Which was a surprise since Lucas told her that it'll take a while to get there.

Diana stared at Lucas's back as he got out of the car.

"I thought it'll be a long drive."

Lucas chuckled. "Food first…" He led her inside the shop.

At the entrance, two associates opened the door for them, bowing respectfully as they entered.

"Mr. Ingram! You're here." An old man wearing glasses and a suit appeared. "Miss. How are you today?"

"I'm good. Thank you." Diana answered. "How do you do?"

"Marvelous!" The old man exclaimed. He received Lucas's call earlier and was told that they'll be choosing an outfit for a brunch party and that he'll be bringing his girlfriend. "I'm Giovanni. I have tailored all of Mr. Ingram's suits for so many years now."

"Ohh.. That's amazing." Diana complimented.

Giovanni thanked her humbly. He has been the Lovell Family's tailor for years, ever since he started owning this Tailor shop.

The elder Mr. Ernest Lovell came in one time all those years ago, shopping for a suit. He was very satisfied that since then, he had Giovanni make all of his suits. His son-in-laws followed and so did his grandsons. It has become a tradition to have their suits made in Giovanni's Thread.
