It's a big night for San Francisco. Tonight, the most famous minds in this time will be showing up to meet and exchange ideas. The mayor of San Francisco has been using this to boost his public image by saying things like, "Only San Francisco would be the proper place for brilliant minds to meet." This event is everywhere on social media and news outlets. It is not a stretch to say that this was one of the biggest events in the science community to happen within the last decade. The last Meeting of The Minds actually occurred 20 years ago and from that convention, science and technology broke through in strides shortly after that meeting.
Hover cars and limos could be seen pulling up to the new San Francisco Convention center which was now bigger than two 100-yard Magball fields. All these vehicles were being brought to the front entrance where the majority of the guests were all standing in front of this massive building. One of these limos dropped off the three young men who, just an hour ago, got ready for their first big event.
"Wow, it looks like the two years of renovation did not fail this place," Kai says. "That's nice and all but why is it 20 feet up from the ground?" Zack asks.
Zack was correct. The whole convention center is on what can only be described as a 20 feet tall block of concrete. There was virtually no way to get up there unless one flew their hovercar to the front entrance directly. Almost as soon as this observation was made, David says, "Look, I think the mayor is going to say something."
20 feet in the air, the Mayor of San Francisco was right at the opening of the convention center. "Welcome! To the Meeting of the Minds!" The mayor states. "I have the pleasure today to welcome all the brilliant minds of the century, to this little part of the world."
"He's going to drone on for about 15 minutes isn't he," David says. "We'd be lucky if it was only 15 minutes," Kai whispers in reply. Kai understands why David isn't the speech type of guy, he wasn't either. While the mayor kept talking about whatever, Kai looked around the area to see who's here. 'There really is a lot of people here,' Kai thinks to himself. There are just about 400 people in attendance here today and that is only the people that were invited by the leader of the convention which was Gene Corp. Other than them, there were reporters trying to get the next big scoop, employees from the corporation, even famous singers and actors who just came to make an appearance or perform. Looking around Kai sees a lot of scientists he admires and even some that make him want to get a signature.
'Keep it cool, Kai,' Kai thinks while calming himself down. Then he sees someone he did not expect to see. "Hana?" Hearing the name out loud, David and Zack turn to look where Kai's looking. "Oh yeah, that's the person who wanted to partner up with us." Zack says before pausing and turns to Kai with a puzzled look, "We never told you that the nurse who wanted to partner up with us was named Hana."
"I used to know her from Aikea High School," Kai says while he looks away from Hana and fixes himself. "Wait, were you guys a thing?" Zack asks. "No, it wasn't like that. We were really good friends in high school." Kai says. "Ahhh, I get it," Zack smiles widely and laughs. "Get what," David says while scratching his head. "It was one-sided wasn't it," Zack said while Kai's face dropped in admission. "Oh, I get it now," David says a full 30 seconds later. "God, you're dense sometimes." Zack shakes his head.
"I don't think I can be dense, though," David replies. "Forget it," Zack says while looking at Kai, "She's coming over now by the way."
Kai looks back at Hana and sees her clearly now. Hana is wearing a black, form-fitting, and long black dress that shows off the fact that she has matured from the same high school girl that Kai used to know. Her white skin is shown on her arms as the sleeves come to an end at mid-arm length. Her hair waves endlessly down past the shoulders and some of her black hair goes over her shoulder a bit. Light pink lipstick, simple eyeshadow that doesn't take away her natural features and black thin eyeliner. In the simplest sense, the only word that could describe her was beautiful.
Kai doesn't even realize that he stopped breathing until he tried to say hello but stops when he sees the other two that are with her. On her left was another lady that was not any less beautiful from Hana. Hana was a different type of beauty compared to this lady. While Hana was like a beauty hidden away from the world, this lady was the one who showed what she had and knew she had it.
The olive-skinned lady was wearing a dark red dress that went slightly above the knees but did nothing to hide the athleticism that showed she was someone who worked out for a lot of her life. It wasn't as muscular as it was more toned. The front of her dress came low on her chest and there was no on her dress except for the spaghetti straps. Her curly hair came down to just a bit past her shoulders. Other than the red-hot lipstick and dark eyeliner there was nothing else.
The real reason why he didn't say anything was because of the tall guy who was in one word. Intimidating. Standing at about 6'4" it is clear to see that he usually looks down on a lot of people most of the time. Not even just that but the man was well built in the sense that he must work out also. The man wore a form fit suit in every sense of the word. He wore a dark black long sleeve buttoned up shirt with black slacks. Even though he looked casual, he still looked professional in this setting.
Zack was right, they were coming over to them now. Hana waves at them as she is walking up. Walking through the crowd of people that are coming around she finally makes it through them. "Hi, it's me again. Glad I could catch you guys before we went inside." She smiles and says. Kai is standing a bit away from Zack and David. Zack notices and smirks to himself. "Can't avoid her even if you wanted to Kai," Zack says in a message he quickly sends to Kai. Kai pretends not to see it. Pretending nothing was happening, Zack goes on speaking to Hana.
"Yes, I'm glad we caught you beforehand. It's a really big crowd tonight." He says. "It really is," she continues, "Oh and this is my colleague Reynaldo and that's his sister Amaya." She introduces the two, who came with her.
Amaya reaches her hand out and says, "Hey, I'm the physical trainer for the cybernetic department." Reynaldo also reaches out after and shakes Zack's hand. "I'm the geneticist that works in the cybernetic department." He says with a smile.
David shakes their hands too. "I'm the one who fixed the cybernetic limb for the patient that came by." He states. "Oh, that's you!" Rey exclaims, "Thanks to you we were able to stop the cells from developing necrosis and even began the immediate treatment for cellular regeneration."
"It's not all me really, my friend and coworker was the one who saw it ahead of time and provided the necessary energy system that filtered out the lead in his blood vessels," David says. "Right. Over the call, you said you would need to talk to the other boss for this agreement. May I ask where he is?" Hana said.
"That would be me and yes we would like to agree with working with the cybernetic department in helping with these types of problems. It is just a matter of payment at this point." Kai says as he finally gets up the guts to show himself now.
Seeing who it is, Hana is a little taken aback, "Kai?" 'At least she remembers me too,' Kai feels relieved. "It's been a while." Kai says as he looks away from the group and faces Hana. "Oh my gosh, I haven't seen you since my junior year! How are you!" She says as she goes up to Kai and hugs him for a moment. When she hugs Kai, her head only goes up to just above his shoulder, and all Kai could think about is how much his heart is just palpitating. "Want to introduce us to Hana- Banana or are we going to have to play the guessing game," Amaya says, noting something in her head mentally. "This is Kai, he was a year ahead of me in high school. He was one of the TAs for my science class and played varsity with me in magball," she says to Reynaldo and Amaya.
Amaya raises an eyebrow, as she looks Kai up and down. Noting his size she says, "You have the body of someone that played forward blocker," Hana laughed, "He played forward blocker only when the coach needed someone to knock someone out of the field. He was actually our forward striker." Hearing this, Amaya actually shows an impressed face. "Wow, rarely am I wrong about magball players. Were you any good?" Before Kai could answer, Hana added, "Good enough to be scouted by Gorman Institute actually."
Reynaldo speaks up for his sister as Amaya seemed to not have expected that, "So you were really good then. Gorman institute is one of the top magball college teams in the western hemisphere. Top 16 in the United Nations I believe?" Kai nods his head, acting as if it's not a big deal. "It is now, back then it was top 50." Amaya steps in, "Out of 233 schools that participate in magball, top 50 is still unbelievable. I'm impressed."
Raising his eyebrows, Zack replies, "Oh really?" Turning to Kai, "We knew you played, but we didn't know you were THAT good, what's with the secrets?" David nods his head as he also didn't know this little tidbit about him.
Scratching his nose, Kai says, "I guess. Aikea only had a handful of things to participate in, much less the neighborhood Hana and I lived in." Hana laughed, "Which was great since we would hangout after school also."
"Oh please, I was your chauffeur," Kai rolls his eyes at Hana as he smiles and jokes with her. Hana laughs a bit and gives a slight shove to Kai. "I said to stop calling yourself that!" She laughs a little. Kai raised his hands in defeat and jokingly said, "Yes my lady- I mean, Miss Aiko." Hana shakes her head at the remark and adds, "I didn't think I'd see you again after you left for college." There's just a second of weird silence before the tallest of the group reached his hand out towards Kai and the other two.
"If you're a friend of Hana then this makes this a lot better then," Reynaldo says as he shakes Kai's hand.
"Mhm." David nods in agreement. "Hey, look I think he's finally finished," Zack says while looking at the mayor. "Enough of my rambling," the mayor says, "I, Mayor Zane Wilde, am honored to welcome you to the new San Francisco Convention center!" When he finished his words, the crowd all around started to applaud but were stopped when they felt the ground start moving. From the ground all around the convention center, rose stairs that came up step by step. All the way up to the convention center. It all led to different openings all around the convention center. Lights lit the stairs in the dark, showing where to step.
"That's one way to go up," David says as he stares at the stairs. "Guess that means we go in?" Reynaldo asks. Kai looks up at him and says, "Yeah, let's go. We can talk more about this when we are inside."
