Chereads / Cambridge Dairies / Chapter 2 - 1

Chapter 2 - 1

'New city means new beginnings,' I hear my thoughts speak for themselves. It was true, and Cambridge City was the best place to start. Yeah, the apartment was expensive, but it's worth it. Besides, I can find a job that rewards more than $1,500 every month. This is Cambridge we're talking about. But for now, I think I should settle in with packing and maybe have breakfast.

I finished unpacking all of my furniture, building a couple of things, such as my bed and dressers and tables. I'm genuinely starved, as I haven't eaten in over ten hours. 'Maybe I could possibly find a Starbucks,' I think. My stomach rumbles loudly. I'm sure there is a Starbucks somewhere in the city square. I walk towards the front door of my mid-century modern apartment and turn the doorknob. My Timberlands are already on my feet because I never bothered to take them off while unpacking, which I guess, can come in handy. While shifting out of the doorway into the hallway, where many apartments are spread out, I slipped my Timberlands coat off the coat rack in front of the door. Yes, I like the Timberlands brand quite a bit. Anyway, I closed up my door and locked it and walked down to the garage, or as I like to call it, "Ground 0". Cool, huh? When I walked through the door leading to the garage, I immediately sought for my 2020 Honda CR-V.

"Found it," I say to myself as I walk to my car. I pulled out my keys and pressed a red button. The car's headlights and taillights blinked and the horn sounded a high pitched 'ching'.

As I stepped into the car, I heard a loud and exasperated breath from behind. By instinct, I turned my head around. It was a man, supposedly my age, and he was crouching and panting roughly. "Are you OK?" I asked. He looked up at me and nodded with sweat dripping down his brown face. "Y-Yeah," he stuttered with no energy, "I just overslept, and had to rush."

I was confused. "Rush?" He sighed. "My job. I work at Starbucks." I chuckled unintentionally. I was just driving to look for one. So that confirms there is in fact a Starbucks. He stared at me. "What's so funny?"

I replied, "That's where I'm headed. I just moved in today and I was looking for a decent breakfast." Then, I had an idea, and I acted on it. "You can hop on in, if you want, and I could take you to Starbucks."

He beamed. "Oh, really?" I nodded. He walked to my car, and I unlocked it for him. The man sat down. I shifted the gear from 'PARK' to 'DRIVE' and pulled out of the garage. It was deathly silence, and awkward as I drove myself and the stranger across town. No wonder he was rushing. This Starbucks was far from the apartment. "So what's your name?" I asked. The man chuckled, presumably nervously. "Call me Liam." I smiled upon hearing his name, I have a nephew back in Texas by that name. "Name's Clyde." The man smiled. "Nice name, dude." I chuckled. "Thank you!" Liam placed his rough and brown hand on my shoulder as I continued to drive. I glanced over to him to see a grateful smile plastered on his face. "No," he began, "Thank you." I smiled back. "My pleasure, really, besides we're going to the same place." Liam snickered. "Tell ya what, I'll give you 78% off everything you buy from our location for the rest of our lives." I was so surprised at hearing this. "Really?" Liam smiled. "No problem, my boss and I are good friends so he'll make that type of deal with you." I nodded and beamed. "Thanks, for real this time."

As I pulled my Honda into a parking space centered in the front of the Starbucks, I could hear Liam groaning as he walked out of the car. I laughed quietly as we walked in. Liam then walked to his manager, and I looked at the menu and was not paying attention when Liam and his boss tripped over me. We all fell, and I heard a thump, and a pang of discomfort rushed through my veins. I heard Liam groan, and another voice as they scoffed at Liam. I opened my eyes to see Liam beside me on his knees. Then, I saw 'her'. SHe was similar to Liam in appearance, but she looked so different. DOes that make sense? SHe was just beautiful. Her dark brown hair still as she sat on her bottom, glaring at Liam. I sat up. I feel so much more nervous. "L-Liam, this is your boss?!" Liam sighed loudly, glaring a hateful look at the woman. "Clyde, this is my sister and my boss, Nataly. Nataly, this is Clyde, my new friend who I told you about." Nataly stood up, along with Liam. I jumped up, still staring at Nataly. "Hiya, Clyde! I'm glad to finally meet you." I shuddered. "You, too. You look nice!" Nataly chuckled sheepishly. "Thanks. I get that a lot. Anyway, Liam suggested his little 'idea'-" she looked at him annoyingly-"and I want to do that, too." I beamed, out of my trance. "Thank you for taking him to work, BECAUSE HE CAN'T DO IT HIMSELF." Liam sighed as Nataly glared intensely at him. I laughed shortly. "No problem, I got a new friend out of it anyway. Now I just want to get some coffee and some snacks." I said. Nataly nodded. She and Liam worked over to the counter. Liam stopped at the counter and began to take orders from awaiting customers. Nataly walked into the back, perhaps her office. I waited in line, finally ready to get a hearty breakfast and perhaps look for job offerings. I was behind three people, though, so I pulled out my iPhone 12Pro and looked through Fiverr and Facebook for any possible offerings.

I'll like it here.
