I quickly slam the door open and quickly shut it until the point the whole house shakes. I could nearly break the door. My body slides down against the door till my butt thump to the ground. I can feel the sweat, trickling around my neck and forehead. How could I let my emotions get the best of me...There are a few pros and cons of using our powers. We try not to use it because it can be like a little sensor that can lead someone...something bad to us. I sigh and close my eyes with the memories flashing back from the day we got attacked.
3 years old me running around in a secluded yet simple cottage that I like to call 'home.' My 5 years old sister Masako was playing with her powers around, the wind started to lift her as she giggles in happiness. The wind stops and she drops but not fast enough for my mother to catch her.
"Mommy mommy! Did you see that? Did you see what I did? The wind makes me fly!"
My beautiful mother, with her long brown hair with bangs just nice on her eyebrows with her pearly white smile. She laughs at Masako, her eyes are filled with proudness that she gave her a peck on Masako's chubby cheek. Behind comes my dad, his arm snakes around mom's waist. My mom looked behind and gave each other a meaningful kiss.
"We're proud of you, Masako. Your powers are growing! Soon, you will become the most beautiful kitsune in the whole world," dad pinched her cheeks and laugh. I wanted the attention as well so I quickly get up and ask my dad to carry me up.
"Up, up! I want up!"
My dad chuckled and picked me up as I wrapped my chubby arm around his neck. My parent faces each other so I and my sister can see each other. I pointed at Masako, and said a few gibberish words, wondering when I can do like she did. My parent seems to get what I'm trying to say. I wanted to do what she did cause it looked fun.
"Kimi Kim, soon you will have them and you will learn how to use them to protect the people you love," my mom said with her eyes of love and hope. Then my dad continues,
"And soon, you will understand as well to be a true Kitsune once the time has come. No matter what, we will be here by your side when the time comes..."
Just like that, memories fade to that dark day...
The screaming, the smokey dark shadow, my dad calling out my mom...
When the shadows took over my body
...
PRESENT
Those memories replayed in my head until I heard a voice, keeps calling my name out. I can feel two hands on my shoulder, trying to shake me awake when I came back to reality and sight, I see Masako in front of my face with her worried eyes.
"Oh my god, Kim! What happened?!" She touches my forehead.
"You're burning hot, like hot hot. You're overheating. How much did you use your powers??"
I was deadass tired I couldn't even make a sound from my mouth. Masako carried me to the couch in the living room. She lay me down and quickly get a wet rag and wave her palm across the rag to make it cool and put it on my forehead. She quickly went to the kitchen and came back later with a glass of water in her hand. I didn't even know I was that thirsty until I gulped every last drop of water. I sigh in relief. My whole body just feels weak, even my fingers don't even want to move.
"Can you tell me what's going on, Kim? You're overheating. How much did you use your powers?"
