Chapter 77 - Chapter 72 - Volume 2

I stood in a white room with no other texture than smooth tiles. The only window was claimed by Micheal Grey's figure. He waved at me and yelled, "Vincent! You're going to do fine! Don't worry!"

I yelled back, "I didn't ask, dude!" There was a small table in front of me that held two pills. One was a standard pill the shape of a capsule, and the other was a cube shape with rounded edges. "Which one am I supposed to take?" I asked in a loud voice.

Micheal pointed at one of them, I wasn't sure which, and called backed, "Take the capsule one first! We'll see if you'll be able to take the other one after!"

I reached towards the capsule and just before I touched it I looked up at him and asked, "How came all of you are up there?!"

He jingled his keys in his pockets, they made an echo throughout the cubed room. "Well, it's perfectly safe, so don't worry!"

"That's not even what I asked! And now, I'm a bit curious!" Does he take me for a fool? I ain't touching that shit until he explained to me exactly what it was.

He let out a loud sigh and shoved his hands in the white lab coat. His emerald eyes stared into mine. "The pill is supposed to be an improved version of an existing pill, which can improve brain function."

"Okay..." I was still very skeptical, "How come you're up there?"

He shrugged his shoulders slowly and placed his hands in the air. as if to stretch them. He casually responded with, "Well, you know...We tried testing this before and...you know....the subjects' heads exploded."

"WHAT?!" I shouted, "And you want ME to do it?!"

"If it weren't for you, I would have never brought this experiment back to the spotlight! You are my saving grace! You fell right into my hands!" he tried to explain.

"The way you say things is really unattractive, you know?"

"Yeah, I know! But listen! This isn't about me!" he pointed at himself, "this is about YOU! You have to trust yourself, I wouldn't let anything bad happen to you! You're too valuable!"

I looked at the pill and contemplated whether to swallow it or not. Can I really trust myself when I am basically him? Well, what harm could it be? I chucked the pill to the back of my mouth and swallowed it. I could feel it moving down my thought via peristalsis. It was an unsettling feeling as I could pinpoint exactly where it was the whole time. The way it crawled down my esophagus and slid right past my sphincters and plopped into my gastric juices. "I don't feel anything yet!" I hollered at him.

Micheal was looking at his watch before he said, "The drug has to enter your bloodstream and travel through your spinal cord at the very least for it to work since it targets your brain. It's no like the strength pill."

I nodded my head in understatement and waited. Suddenly, a wave of nausea flooded my head. "Micheal! I don't feel so good!" I cried. *Wretch* A stream of vomit shot out of my mouth and splattered all across the white room. There were no pieces of food or chunks of undigested meals because I came with an empty stomach. Thank God. But, there was a lot of blood. Blood? I stared down at my hands which were glazed in it. The dark red fluid slithered down my arms and dripped at my elbow. I looked up at Micheal. His horrid expression stained my vision as I felt the sensation of falling back.

______________

Micheal Grey POV:

Holy shit! I looked around at the medical professionals as their eyes bulged at the sight of Vincent's unfortunate outcome. "Help him for fuck's sake! What did I pay you for!" I shouted. The team of doctors and nurses raced towards him. I could hear their shoes pounding on the hard floored steps that led to the white room which he was in. I saw them hoist him up onto one of those medical table things. I forgot what they were called. I could see the blood dripping out of Vincent's mouth. I sure hoped that he would be okay. Poor kid. I scribbled down on a notepad: lower dosage. I think that sudden high dosage of the drug shocked his body, which had grown accustomed to the strength pill's surge of energy. He needs more time and practice with increasing intervals of the drug itself. Well, at least I know where he stands as of now. I gathered my supplies and headed towards the office.

_________

Vincent POV:

I woke up to the sound of someone peeling an apple. My eyes adjusted to the bright hospital-like lights, and my nose stung because of the sterile air. For the most part, I was not tied down to the bed. Not something that I was expecting. The only thing that was different was that my right hand was injected with a needle that could be traced up to an IV pouch. I tilted my head to the right to see...Flin's granddaughter? I instantly shot up and became alert. She let out a surprised gasp and said, "Are you all right?!"

I scooted- or at least tried to- away from her until I was obstructed by the bed itself. 'What are YOU doing here? Where's Flin?" I asked looking around to see if this was a trap.

She stopped peeling the apple and said, "Flin was the one who told me you were here." She shied away from me and added, "I came to...well, look after you in a way. I guess."

I stared at her. Fruit basket on one side, dull peeling knife, an apple which was half peeled of its waxy red skin. Out of all the cliches, I end up with this one. Really? She caught me looking at her for a second too long. Her cheeks painted themselves a vivid red. I said, "I prefer apples with the peel."

"..." she blankly stared at me until she understood what I meant. "O-oh!" she handed me a red one from the basket and said, "I-I sorry! I didn't know!"

I didn't say anything as I took the apple and chomped on it. Its sweet, sticky, and apple flavor gushed into my mouth. I quietly said, "Thanks."

She looked at me for a while longer before responding hurriedly, "Y-your welcome!" She then proceeded to put the knife down. "I met as well throw this away," she said as she was about to toss the peeled fruit into the trash nearby.

"Eat it," I growled.

Her hand abruptly paused in mid-toss. She looked at me and innocently said, "What?"

"I said eat it," I repeated myself in a softer voice. "You don't understand how many people that so-called piece of trash would save in the outer sector. If you're sorry about anything, then eat it."

Her eyes widened. Did I take it too far? She opened her lips and said, "I...will." She raised the apple up to her mouth and bit out a small piece.

Another voice rang out in the room, "If you two lovebirds would part for a second, I need to have a private conversation."
