Chapter 55 - Chapter 50

"George! Bill! I think I see the end of the biome!" I yelled at them. Our perilous journey through the jungle biome was about to come to an end. The thickets of trees, vines, bushes, and wild vegetation was starting to thin. The barren desert ahead of me was starting to appear in a rapid manner. While I was still jogging, I loosened the bandana around my forehead. My fingers traveled to the back of my head and slowly found the knot. They tugged and pulled on it until...nothing happened. No matter how hard I tugged on it, it wasn't budging. I turned the bandana so that its knot was on my forehead. Fuck me for tying it so tight, to begin with. Suddenly, the bandana fell to the ground. I slowly looked around only to find Bill's spear retreating to his side.

He looked at me and smirked, "I couldn't see the local princess struggling." I grabbed the bandana off the ground and threw it at his eyes. When he lowered it, he saw a middle finger specifically reserved for him. George slapped his brother's head and laughed. Bill cursed him under his breath.

We continued to trudge forward; our steps were lightening with every inch. Anticipation filled our hearts as we ventured to another biome. This time with better gear and everything. George pointed out something, "Guys, we should start to unfold our...those sun-cover things, that I was forced to make." I rolled my eyes but pulled out the covers that we made. Bill also did the same.

After we prepared everything we needed to go into the desert- including the sun-cover things (I really need a better name for these things), we marched forward until we came across the official boundary. The three of us looked back with satisfaction. We had just cleared the jungle, and in the nick of time as well. I could see water compiling on land only a couple of hundred feet away. The previously integrated ponds, water reserves, and small streams had conformed into one devilish entity that loomed over us. The water was...weird. It made a wall in the jungle that did not seem to flow at all. The water in the wall still rippled and waved like actual water, but the liquid was stationed in place, waiting to gush out whenever the god above deemed worthy. I shivered thinking about all the power that the game operators had. I hoped they had some rules as well. "Well, well. Fuck me! Look at all this water! The trees inside of it don't even look real!" George exclaimed.

"We better get moving, there's still a ginormous gap between us and the mountains. Who knows when the water might burst?" Bill advised. We all looked at him and agreed. We were all thinking the same thing, but he was the one that put it into words.

George breathed in a breath of triumph. "I hope I never see this damnable again."

I chuckled. "Well, you never know."

Flin POV:

"Flin! Come to my office immediately!" Micheal said. I was cleaning up the last bit of the mess that occurred in the hidden room. Nothing a little bleach and some hydrofluoric acid can't fix. I dumped the bodies in the acid, flushed them down until they were nothing but human mush. I dropped the mush into garbage bags and sent it down the shute. Nobody would ever bother looking down there. If they did, the last thing they would see would be my bullet.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming." I paused the call and took the elevator to his office.

***

"What did you need?" I asked.

Micheal swiveled in his chair and said, "Did you see the bodies?"

"What kind of question is that?" I replied, "I was the one that took care of all of them."

"No, I meant the special ones."

"Yeah."

Micheal stood up from his chair, walked in front of his desk, and sat on it. He leaned over and put his chin on his fist. "Do you know what this means?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "Care to explain?"

"If the word ever gets out that an overdose of our drug can lead to...that, then we're all fucked. Not just me. Everyone in this company. Everyone who has ever stepped foot inside the company is getting jail time, executed, or worse.:

"That sounds about right."

"So...we need to flush this down the drain. Until I make a safer drug or at least a cure, No one who knows about this will live. It's between you and me. Got it?"

I shook my head. "Where do I begin?"

"Here's a list of people who moved the bodies to the room," he tossed me a crumpled-up piece of paper, "Make sure that the families are well compensated."

I caught the paper and said, "How do you want Kevin to be covered up?"

Micheal whistled before smiling. "Do what you do best."

I flashed him a smile of my own. I heard the elevator ding on the far side of the room. "Micheal!"

He immediately understood and jumped back into his chair. he tried to act natural. "Hi! Angela!" Micheal clapped his hands in false surprise.

Angela pushed the clipboard she was holding closer to her chest when she saw me. I tried to comfort her, "Don't worry, I don't bite."

She blushed a little before saying, "I'm not interrupting anything here, am I?"

Micheal stuttered for words as I saved his ass, "We were just about done, but nothing important needs to be said. So, he's all yours." I gave her a wink before I left in the elevator.
