Chapter 2 - Anima Operantium

"Excellent!" His baritone voice could be compared to a diesel engine roaring. "Ten times faster than the previous record! And here I was thinking that I would never improve. Sadly, it looks like this one is the absolute limit that will be accepted. Damn shame too, I'm sure I could have made him perfect if there wasn't that detestable counter-system in place."

The man looked to be 6 feet tall. He had fair skin and dark amber hair with a matching colored mustache. He had a rather bulky physical makeup, a little bit more top-heavy than most. His legs were a little short for a man of his size. He was wearing a pair of grey overalls made from what looked like a single piece of heavy fabric. There were no seams anywhere. Under it he had a red and black shirt. His massive hands were covered by black gloves that seemed to have white stains on the fingers and palms, and on his feet were a pair of heavy boots made of the same material.

"10 minutes huh? Your mental fortitude is something else. Most candidates take a few hours to get a handle on their surroundings, the best one before you took two!" He continued with a chuckle, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Say kid, what's your name?"

He was still reeling from the shock of the man suddenly appearing before him, so he stared blankly into the man's dark green eyes for a few seconds before he came around to answering. Yet before any words left his mouth he found himself unable to give a response. What IS his name? What could have possibly have been done to him that made him forget his NAME of all things? He struggled for the better part of a minute to recall this morsel of information that was integral to his being. However, before he could come to a conclusion the man facing himself mumbled something under his breath.

"He's handling it much better than I thought."

This only served to distract him further, wondering just what the hell it was he was handling well. He had woken up naked and isolated, floating in a room devoid of color save for his own skin, that was also so deafeningly quiet to the point he couldn't hear his own heartbeat, which he was absolutely certain must be making a bulge in his chest from the way it was pumping! He was also thoroughly shocked by the sudden appearance of this green-eyed man, and the fact that he was unable to remember a specific detail about his life up to this point, not even his own name! He was positive that he was the most disheveled he had ever been in his life to this point, not that he could remember it anyway. So how exactly did the man expect him to 'handle' it?

And yet he still couldn't bring himself to hate or even remotely dislike this guy, so rather than run around in circles inside of his head trying to figure out the solutions to the questions he quite obviously didn't have the answers to, he answered truthfully and with a few questions of his own.

"I do not know my name, for some reason or another I cannot seem to remember it. But I would very much like to ask where I am, why I'm here, how I got here, when I got here, and who you are." He hesitated a bit before continuing. "And if at all possible, I would like to ask what my own name is."

The man remained silent for a few moments, his facial expressions shifting between surprise, shock, anguish, and excitement, as well as what looked like a twinge of regret before sighing and shaking his head a little.

"That's quite a few questions, so I'll answer them one at a time to the best of my ability, not that you wouldn't learn what I'm about to tell you from Sirius and Dominic anyway. Here's hoping Tanya doesn't scold me for this..." He grumbled the last part while tossing a look behind his back.

"To answer your first question, I'm afraid all I am allowed to say is "Anima Operantium." You'll learn why soon enough, but for now just know that any more about it might kill you." He had a grave look on his face as he said the second part. Internally he was already worrying he had fucked up somehow. 'I really ain't to good at this whole wordplay and conning shit' is what he was thinking to himself internally.

"To the second, that is something best left to Dominic and Tanya to answer. they are the brains of this shenanigan, so it would probably piss them off to know I spoiled their fun." He rolled his eyes after this answer, clearly displeased with them.

"As for how you got here, I'd say we pulled you here but Silvin will probably be able to answer that question much better that I can." He rubbed the back of his head at this admission of defeat, looking quite depressed about this.

"You arrived 'here' roughly 20 minutes ago if we use your metric of tempus. You only woke up about 11 minutes ago though. As for when you arrived where 'we' are, I'm not sure if I can answer that question without Pherel yelling at me, so I will have to apologize on her behalf in advance. I think you will find her tough to deal with." He held his head as if he had a migraine after mentioning this woman, so it was rather easy to assume their relationship to some degree. Not that he cared about this morsel anyway, he was grinding gears in his head trying to piece together what he was being told.

His faced suddenly brightened as he prepared to answer that question.
