Chapter 2 - The Birth of a Demon

16 years past in the blink of an eye, and yet I didn't age a minute. Of course, even if I did I could always use transformation magic to warp my appearance but thats not the point.

"Ahhhhhh" screamed a voice in the distance, the voice was as shaky as an earthquake.

"Could you shut it down there? I'm trying to listen to the wind here" remarked Korosu with a grin on his face as he put his head in front of the tied up adventurer to a point where it was both intimidating and uncomfortable. "Are you really that eager to get tortured" said Kurosu sarcastically, as he laughed and went back to listening to the wind. They were on the middle sector of the Great Resu Labyrinth, a sector filled with dangerous and mysterious monsters, it is rumoured to be one of the most dangerous labyrinths but that is why it attracts so many adventurers and why not many return.

"Looks the main dish has arrived" uttered Kuroso with a hint of excitement in his voice.

"You sit tight now adventurer...Things might get a little messy outside" he said with a sinister grin on his face as he walked through the wall as if it wasn't there. It was illusion magic and a well-cast one at that, it would take a very experienced mage to cast an illusion spell good enough to trick even the senses of the surrounding beings.

Slowly a party of adventurers approached, they were all dressed in typical adventurer clothes. The mages wore long dark robes enchanted with defence magic as the swordsmen wore strong, thick armour made of monster materials they had gathered. Abruptly, Shadow jumped out in front of them as they automatically jumped back and got into defence positions. "Good evening dear adventurers" he said as he politely waved, "So then, let's play a game. I liked to call it 'death game'" he uttered as the adventures faces filled with shock.

"Your jokes are not at all funny" one of the adventurers yelled.

"Who said I was joking?" Kurosu asked as he gave out an ice cold glare.

"We won't play any of your messed up games" shouted another adventurer " so leave us alone"

"I really didn't want to do this...but" Kurosu then snapped his fingers as purple chains rose from the ground and viciously binded around the adventurers, holding them still and preventing them from casting any magic.

"Now then, let me explain the game. It's very simple really, all of you get one vote. You have 60 seconds to vote. Whoever gets the most votes...dies" he announced as all the adventurers were suddenly filled with dread, it was as if his words were piercing their very souls.

"If noone has votes, you all die. If the votes are all drawed, you all die. And if more than one person has the top votes, they both die" he said as the 5 adventurers were paralysed in fear as tears dripped down from their eyes.

Hastily, Kurosu began to count from 60 as the adventurers thoughts started to conflict, quickly their survival instincts kicked in as they started to plot against one another.

"3...2...1" the adventurers announced their votes and Kurosu smiled "seems we have a tie, now I think this is when I should tell you this was all a joke" the area grew silent as guilt and rage formed in the adventurers.

"I'll be taking my leave now, have a nice day" he said as he walked away and the adventurers were set free from the binds.

A few moments later, the adventurers were all dead. They had killed each other in a rage after feeling betrayed, then the final member killed themselves from guilt. Kurosu had used the human's weaknesses and strengths against them. Kurosu had swiftly achieved his goal.

He laughed away as he returned to his hidden 'entertainment room' where a terrified adventurer awaited him. As he walked again through the hidden door in the wall, he saw the room completely messed up. While Korosu was enjoying his time mentally torturing the other adventurers, the tied up hostage had tried everything in his power to escape. The violent scrapes on the walls and burn marks on his hands from trying to force his hands out the rope portrayed his clear desperation to escape.

"Wow, you really surprised me. Your much more entertaining than I thought you were"

These words sent a shiver down the petrified prisoners spine as tears flooded down his face. These words made clear the dire situation he was in, and he broke down crying and trembling in fear. Desperately, he wanted to survive, he no longer cared about his dreams, his pride, money; all he wanted was to survive.

"How's about this. As a reward for your efforts I'll let you go and in return you'll tell all the people of your little town that you were attacked by a terrifying monster. Then, act like nothing happened. Do that and your safety is guaranteed...but if you don't all I can say is your death will not be a painless one"

Only caring about his own safety he accepted the terms and was set free. In accordance to his deal, he never spoke of the events again. However, in no way did the events of that day ever leave his mind. Day after day, night after night the events of that day haunted him and the guilt of not telling the guild about the truth behind the adventurers death ate and ate at his soul until all that was left was the empty shell of a man.

Meanwhile, Korosu continued his journey eliminating every and any person who got in his way, human or demon he didn't care. He didn't belong to the humans or the demons, he was his very own person and he found peace in this fact. He was no longer a slave to society rather he was more free than he had ever been. He no longer cared about consequences or what he should or shouldn't do, he just followed his desires and continued to venture forward in this world of mysteries.

After a long journey he reached the capital of the Kingdom of Asroldras and took the first step in his new plan. This wasn't a wicked or kind scheme, this was a plan of which held no negative or positive effect, this was simply a plan for amusement. Though one could say it was a lot better than his former plans as this did not include any senseless killing, for the most part at least. It was a kind of break from violence and a step into another form of amusement...
