Chapter 2 - Preparation

When I woke up, nothing had happened other than the fact the two moons in the sky were gone and a single sun was almost declaring noon. Apparently I had slept for quite a while after dawn, which meant that I should probably regualte my sleeping schedule once I manage to clean this place.

That's right, I decided to make this Fortress my home. And for this objective to happen, I would need to find anything that may allow me to clean and repair everything. Luckily, without looking too far, I managed to find a warehouse that happened to have old cleaning supplies.

They were ragged and some were rusty, but it was to be expected of an abandoned building right? I managed to equip myself with a broom and a bucket, before proceeding to start cleaning the corridors of the Fortress from dust and dirt that may have been placed upon it with time.

As I did so, I managed to find a well. It was covered and luckily the water seemed to be clean of most visually perceived bacteria, which made me a little more confident about my source of water. After filling my bucket with water, I started doing some real cleaning on the walls of the lower floors of the Main Building.

Certainly cleaning the whole place would take a good time, but since I had nothing else to do, I continued. I also noticed that I only started to grow tired after a good few hours of work, which surprised my old feeble self. I also didn't felt any hunger for some reason, but since I wasn't very trusty of this body and world, I simply focused on continuing my work.

Before I knew it, I had finished cleaning the first two floors of the Main Building. The warehouse was now much better organized and I even found a kitchen. There weren't any edible vegetables, and certainly the meat I found was old since it had already begun growing mold.

I decided to throw it all out of the main gate, and I was surprised to see a few large birds come down from the trees come down gliding, grabbing most of the already rotten meat and flying away. I assumed they were some kind of animal that ate carrion.

Luckily they didn't seem all that interested in me, so I just returned back to work. Taking how many time I spent with the first two floors, the last two were a lot more easier to clean since they were mostly individual empty rooms.

Aside from little insects and skeletons, I didn't found any other animal living inside there. As I continued cleaning, I cam across a throne room. Probably it was the main room of the Fortress for whoever occupied it before.

Just to make sure that whoever that was didn't felt bad about me taking over their possessions, I made sure to clean everything to perfection before trying out sitting down on the throne. It was incredibly comfortable for a glorified stone chair, its cushion still remained almost intact.

After fooling around some more, I returned to what I was using as my own room in order to sleep again until the next morning.

So it was that I woke up and found myself stepping out of bed just as the sun was coming out from the distant mountains. I simply came back to the throne room since I had left my cleaning supplies there, went back to the well in order to replace the water I had in my bucket with cleaner water, and then returned to the inside of the Main Building in order to finish the interior work.

All that was left was the armory and the library. They were at the left and right side of the throne room respectively, and they held quite an impressive amount of dust, dirt and garbage. I started with the armory, throwing out the rusty and broken weapons, keeping the ones I could tell were still usable.

The inventory right now was:

Two Halbers.

One Longsword.

Three Arming Sword.

Three Wooden Shields.

And that was about everything left that was usable, besides a beautiful and heavy looking Greataxe that I was not confident in lifting, but that certainly seemed to be a relic since it was actually well hidden in a secret compartment behind the rest, that I found by mere accident when cleaning the dust.

With the armory done, I went ahead to the library. Most of the books were either burnt, destroyed or in a language that I couldn't understand. I proceeded to clean the dirt and dust from the room before taking inventory of how many books I could find.

The list goes:

Common Magic Theory.

Vajra's Dueling Techniques.

Common History of the World.

Holy Compendium of Gods.

The rest was basically destroyed or not in a language I could comprehend, and since there wasn't a book that could teach me how it works, I decided to put those aside for now. I started carrying the rest of the garbage outside and then I oppened the book about magic and started reading away.

It explained how to control your "Magika", basically the energy that lays inside one's spirit, in order to create changes around the environment. It was very general on its contents, but it should help me understand how that works.

After a few minutes of reading and meditating, I could manage to start feeling something inside me. It was certainly a familiar feeling, like that warmth that carried me here when I died. I tried to order it to approach my hand, and like the heart pumps blood, I felt as if some kind of energy went through my veins straight to the palm of my hand.

It was incredibly volatile at first, so when I tried to concentrate it and follow the instructions of the book, it took me a good twenty minutes before I could keep it there seemingly under control.

The next step was order it to take a new form through mental images. It also said that chanting could help to concentrate, but it was a bit embarassing to try it out, so I simply tried to do so without chanting. A flame was formed on top of my hand and staid there similar to a candle burning.

It didn't felt too warm around my hand, but I could certainly tell that it was real fire due to the appearance it had and the fact that it caused a distortion on what I was seeing through it.

Finally, the last step was aiming and firing. I simply aimed my hand to the small mountain of already half destroyed books and ordered it to fire similar to a gun. The flame was shot to the books and they caught fire instantly. The small mountain of paper and ink burned quite well, and after a few minutes only ashes remained, that were blown away by the wind.

[Well, that seems incredibly useful.]

I said to myself, taking a mental note that I should try and not use it to freely since I had yet to fully understand how Magika works. Anyways, with the interior cleaning done, I left the broom and the bucket where they belonged, before retreating to my room once more, laying down and going to sleep again.

It had been a long day and I learned a lot, so naturally I was a little tired both physically and mentally. That night, I didn't had any dreams or nightmares, just a calm and nice slumber.
