Chapter 4 - Three

WHAM

The door to the VCPD Cyber division room was violently opened by a young woman who was among the respected ranks of the VCPD, making the people in the room startled but did not dare to warn.  Mel rushed into the Cyber room and came to one of the senior teams who was sitting in the corner of the room and was busy with the keyboard keys that were beating as they were being pressed quickly, not affected by the sound of the door just now.

"Don't make a fuss Connor" said Evan Sanders without looking at the person he was reprimanded, while the one being reprimanded didn't care at all.  Sanders was one of Mel's seniors at the police academy and can be said to be quite close to Mel and often helps Mel's work so far.

Mel put Lex's ID card on the Senior's desk.

"Find out this person Sanders," Mel said while leaning slightly towards Sanders. Feeling interested, Sanders stopped his activities with the keys then turned to Mel, whose face was already 60 cm from him.

"Your acquaintance?"  Sanders commented after taking a glance at the ID and then turned his eyes back to Mel.

"No need to ask many questions, Sanders, do it quickly. I still have a lot of work" said Mel coldly.

"Haaah ... Alright ... You block of ice!"  Sanders grumbled at Mel's unchanged attitude from the time he got to know her, cold, bland, indifferent to other people's prejudices, and greedy about achievement.

In such a sneer Mel does not respond, for her, the nickname block of ice, has no taste, no empathy, and many other nicknames that are pinned to her about her personality or the way she socializes are not important, pleasing the eyes of others does not enter her priority scale.

"Here it is ... Alexander Vernon, 26 years old, an orphan. His mother, Mary Allen just died 2 years ago and now he lives alone."

Sanders moved back a little so that Mel could see his computer screen, which displays a database of residents of the City of Vellas, the police have full rights to access that data.

Mel stared at the computer screen carefully and thoroughly, not missing a single letter of the data written there.

"Such a Handsome boy," Sanders teased as he nodded his head slowly after realizing how Mel researched the data, but being ignored by the person who was his target made, Sanders continue his pranks.

"Why don't you just date him, Connor? Looks like he will suit you." Sanders's words annoyed Mel a little, who then replied to her senior's words.

"None of your business, I'm not interested in something like that," said Mel still fixated on what she was doing.

"Hey ... you can't be like that, I'm not saying you have to get married, at least dating. Sex is a necessity, Connor." Said Sanders advised his clumsy junior not to continue to live a flat life like now, according to him, Mel also has the right to have fun and does not need to force herself to be immersed in her work.

Mel didn't answer, she knew that responding to her senior's babbling would be a waste of her energy.

"Don't tell me ... You're still a virgin, Connor?"  Guess Sanders by narrowing his eyes slightly investigating Mel, making the woman roll her eyes in weary and then hit Sanders's arm so hard that the owner's hand screamed in pain.

Mel ignored it and after feeling enough of the information she got from the database, she left Sanders who was still groan holding his arm.

"Hey Connor, someday you'll regret not listening to my words!"  Shrieked Sanders

"Awwhh .... You ruthless girl!" He said irritably as he rubbed his aching arm.

Mel strolled into her room, ignoring the screams of his seniors who are known to talk a lot, even so, Sanders is Mel's senior who cares about her the most. She knew Sanders said it all because he was worried about Mel who was always alone, but for Mel, it wasn't a problem because she was used to it since she was a child.

The VCPD office was deserted because the home office hours had passed, but not for Mel and her team who still had to grapple with this case because the third victim had just been found.  The beat of his short heels echoed along the corridor, there were still several units helping her and the team solve the case, and that's means, there is no chance to go home early for some time to come.

Mel was still racking his brains as she walked into her room, tracing the clues one by one that had been gathered, and the biggest question for her was what weapon caused a hole the size of a cherry in the victim's heart? Even the special units that used to identify weapons were confused until now.

"Haaaah ..." Lex's annoyed snort sounded as soon as he left the police station, he didn't care about his ID card being confiscated, yet he could easily make a new one.

He is annoyed that he has to walk all the way home, at least he has to coincide with the people on the fast train because this hour is the last scheduled train operation today and will usually be full of people who don't want to miss the train because if he takes the bus, the trip will take longer.

Lex prepares mentally to accept the smell of mixed emotions, not all human emotions smell bad, it's just that most humans only grow bad emotions or feelings in them and always maintain them, such as anger, resentment, jealousy, and the worst is lies, the smell of lies is very, very disgusting and as long as the lie is maintained, the smell will continue to follow that person.  As the saying goes, one lie will produce other lies that is why the smell of lies usually lasts and cannot be decomposed.

The fast train door was open, Lex began to step into the train which turned out to be quite deserted today, unlike what he had imagined.

'Good, I don't have to put my extra mask on,' thought Lex.

As the train starts moving, Lex puts on the earphones that are connected to the smartphone in the hoodie pocket he is wearing, playing his favorite songs that are neatly arranged in a playlist. Lex decided to stand by the train door so he could just step outside when he arrived at his destination subway.

Unfortunately, right now his stomach is very hungry,  making him imagine what he will buy later after leaving the station, then his plan to shop at a wellmart today he canceled because suddenly lazy came to his mind and whispered to postpone it.

A dapper-looking man with a white shirt without a tie, one button on the top left open and wrapped in a black suit on the outside, black pants, and a pair of loafers complete his appearance.  The man had just entered the cabin of the train where Lex was, from the cabin of the other train through the connecting door.

Lex did not realize the presence of this person because it was engrossed in his thoughts until when the man passed Lex from the back, it felt like a slow-motion, Lex's neck bristled, the sound of the man's shoes knocking against the loud train floor sounded in Lex's ears, he tried turning his head to look at the man, then a tremendous feeling of nausea surged from Lex's lower stomach to his throat which was ready to spit Lex's guts.

Dark black color with yellow spots rising from the back of the man, the black flames were enormous like flames that were ready to devour whatever was around him accompanying the man as closely as fire on the ghost rider's body.

Lex shuddered in horror, his heart was beating uncontrollably, cold sweat began to appear around his forehead and face, he unconsciously continues to stare at the man.

"Yuck ..." The reaction of his stomach was unbearable, this was really bad, how could the smell and color of emotions from one person be this bad.

He hurriedly took out and covered the mask he was wearing with a spare mask that he always carried with him just in case something like this happened.

'Huh ... not bad, it doesn't really smell anymore' said Lex to himself.

Lex wanted to move out of his place when he realized the train was close to his destination station, so he gave up his mind and decided to stick with it even though his head was getting dizzy.  Cold sweat still covered his face.

DING!

The train door opened, Lex rushed out with staggered steps while holding his head, he felt like he was going to have a fever.  failed already in his plan to buy dinner on his way back to his apartment because now his stomach won't be able to be filled again, Lex is too nauseous to eat.

Meanwhile, a mysterious man with a big thick flame has been watching Lex, his eyes following Lex's movements until Lex leaves the train and is no longer visible.

"Hhuuueeeekkk ....."

As soon as he arrived home, Lex immediately ran to the bathroom and vomited his empty stomach since morning into the toilet, then pulled the flush lever at his side.

There's only a pale yellow liquid that came out. Lex dizzy, he sat limply on the broom floor.

"Damn! What was that ?? Why could it be that terrible?! That person ...." Lex hung up his monologue, he felt familiar with the mysterious man's aura.

"Haaah ... Damn it !!"  he curses on because his body was limp and powerless Lex struggled to get up to his bed to close his eyes until tomorrow because he felt very tired today.
