Chapter 16 - Commander

Hades saw thousands of zombies gathered around the canteen.

Maybe all the zombies in the school had gathered here.

Judging from the corpses of many students on the ground, it seemed that some students had tried to break out of the zombie encirclement last night.

However, as soon as the zombies smelled the scent of living people, they all rushed over.

There were more than 10,000 students in the school. At least 8,000 of them had turned into zombies. Some of the remaining students might have escaped.

Some of the students hid in a corner of the campus, waiting for rescue.

However, it had been a week since the apocalypse. No matter how long the students hid, they gradually couldn't hold on anymore.

Food and water were what everyone needed to eat and drink. Most of the food in the school was surrounded by many zombies.

After a week, no matter how much food was hidden, it was almost all eaten up.

Humans could not last long without food. They had to come out to eat or survive.

However, to zombies, their food was humans.

As soon as humans came out, their sensitive sense of smell let them to immediately gathered together.

Ordinary students could deal with one or two zombies, but they were still at a disadvantage in terms of numbers. Under the encirclement of countless zombies, these students would definitely be unable to escape.

Unless they had a car.

There were also some tire marks on the ground and some cars that crashed into the wall.

Some people might have escaped, but most of them had become food for the zombies.

The rest of the people might have gathered in the cafeteria and the teaching building. Currently, there were only two places in the entire academy that had the possibility of defense and survival.

The other places had already fallen.

But even if the zombies were attracted by the living people, Hades still felt that something was wrong.

There were too many zombies, and their movements were abnormal.

They were completely different from the zombies from the past few days.

The zombies from the past few days were wandering aimlessly, looking for living people everywhere. They moved slowly and never grouped together.

But today, these zombies were gathered together. They didn't make any unnecessary movements, just like soldiers.

This was something that wouldn't have happened in the past few days. These zombies seemed to be listening to the orders of some zombies.

They only surrounded the cafeteria, but didn't attack.

This reminded Hades of the ancient siege.

Before the siege, they would surround the city first!

When the city ran out of ammunition and food, they would launch a fierce attack!

Hades suddenly thought of this. He was almost sure that these zombies were following a certain command.

A zombie leader!

This was beyond Hades's imagination. However, after observing the signs, he found it hard to deny this.

These zombies were no longer ordinary zombies. They had formed a zombie army!

If they were wandering zombies, even if there were thirty-four of them, it would be very easy for Hades to defeat them with his current strength.

However, these zombies were in groups and had a leader hidden in the dark. This was completely different.

Hades was surprised at the growth of zombies.

If these zombies continued to grow like this, who knew what kind of creatures they would become in the future.

Perhaps they would become a new species to replace humans?

Hades was terrified at the thought of this. He felt that he had to destroy all the zombies as soon as possible. If he waited until the zombies continued to evolve, it would be too late.

Humans could not be wiped out just like that. Hades wanted to save and preserve mankind's last hope.

Hades had to save all the people here.

However, the current situation was very critical. He had no way to fight against this undead army. They were like a wall that could not be crossed, blocking Hades's advance.

Hades could only be anxious outside, but there was nothing he could do to them.

Unless..

He could kill the commander!

Hades thought of this. Although the zombies were gathered together, if he could kill the commander of the zombies, the zombies might disperse.

By then, he could easily enter the cafeteria. If he wanted to defeat all the zombies, Hades alone wouldn't be enough.

While Hades was thinking about his next move, he found that the zombies were suddenly moving.

They weren't moving casually, but all of them suddenly raised their heads as if they had heard some kind of order. They all started moving toward the same place.

This made Hades believe that there must be a commander in this group of zombies. Otherwise, the zombies wouldn't all obey the order.

Hades followed the zombie's movement, trying to find the commander among the zombies and kill it.

However, it was also very cunning. These zombies moved together. There were too many of them, so it was difficult to tell who was the ordinary zombie and who was the commander.

These zombies went to another place, the teaching building.

Hades wanted to enter the school building yesterday, but was rejected by the people in the building. They suspected that Hades might become a zombie, so they chased him away.

Hades frowned. He suddenly understood what the zombie commander wanted to do. He wanted to attack the school building first, not the cafeteria.

There must be enough food in the cafeteria, so they could last for a long time.

However, there wasn't that much food in the school building. The people inside must be hungry, so they might not have the strength to resist.

After the zombie army broke through the school building, the students inside became zombies. This way, they could further strengthen the zombie army and attack the cafeteria.

What a brilliant plan!

If a human could make such a decision, it might be normal.

But this was a zombie, a zombie that had already become a corpse.

Logically speaking, after a person died, their brain would also die.

However, the zombie virus allowed the zombies to come back to life, but most of the zombies' brains had not come back to life. They had no reason and no intelligence.

But just like a genetic mutation, no matter what, the probability of a mutation was extremely small.

Among the tens of thousands of zombies, there would always be one or two that would allow the brain to evolve and become intelligent zombies.

These zombies would naturally become the commanders of the zombies, and they seemed to have a way to control the rest.

This made things more and more difficult..
