Chapter 38 - The Price Of Becoming A Genius

Her weight and mass had been traded away.

In exchange, the demon taught Elizabeth evil magic.

Evil. The dark side of magic. This was real black magic.

It was something that a black magic sorcerer focused on researching in his entire life.

At this point, Elizabeth had mastered all types of magic, no matter good or bad.

She was almost proficient in nearly all types of magic, but as a price, Elizabeth lost her weight.

Only then did Elizabeth realize that she wasn't perfect anymore.

Although it was not obvious from the outside that she was incomplete, the fact was that she had lost her weight.

It could be said that she was no longer a normal person.

Anything heavy placed on her was a huge burden, including her clothes.

Those clothes were very heavy on her body, and even a slight breeze of wind could blow her away.

She could even float on water.

Thus, Elizabeth decided to hide from everyone's view.

She could not let anyone find out about her abnormality. As her loss of weight and mass was due to the contract with the demons, it was nearly impossible for her to get rid of the curse.

Elizabeth could not leave the house. This was because once she did, any slight wind would make her feel full of discomfort.

A single leaf could easily crush Elizabeth.

This was the price of losing her weight, one that was very heavy.

She had cast many spells on herself, but even so, she could only barely reach the constitution of an ordinary person, allowing her to not be blown away by the wind.

Elizabeth finally realized what she had lost.

That was something important to a person.

The concept of weight and mass.

If it had disappeared from a person's body, it would be difficult for one to remain as a human.

Just like how a person cannot lose one's own shadow, weight was something that accompanied one throughout one's life.

This was the cunning aspect of all demons. They would take things that one thought were insignificant, whereas in actual fact they were very important and dear to one.

And if one wanted what one had lost back, one would have to pay a bigger price until the demon took control of one's entire soul, causing one to fall into hell and be under the control of the demon forever.

Elizabeth didn't step into the demon's trap. She didn't choose to continue making deals with the demon.

Instead, she continued to study magic, hoping that she would be able to lift the curse one day.

Hence, Elizabeth went to the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy and entered its library. The library in the academy was known as the most comprehensive magic library on the entire continent. She wanted to find a spell that could break the demon contract and remove the curse that was placed on her.

However, her search was fruitless.

That was until today when she had met Linley Bart.

"That's my story, what do you think? How's the feeling of prying into a young girl's privacy, Student Linley Bart."

Linley Bart didn't expect Elizabeth to be such an extreme person.

However, geniuses had their own character.

He didn't expect Elizabeth to have the courage to make a deal with a demon.

However, she still lost to the demon in the end and was subjected to the curse.

Therefore, it could be seen that geniuses were not omnipotent.

"I can think of something."

"Oh?"

"However, this requires a ritual."

Actually, there was no need for a ritual. It was merely added to make Elizabeth believe in it. Otherwise, with her wariness and vigilance, she might retaliate the moment he had cast the magic spell.

That was why he had to act a bit to make it more convincing.

"What should I do?"

"You should at least take a shower first and then change into a clean set of clothes. You don't need a new one, just a clean one. That's about it."

Actually, Linley Bart didn't know what to prepare for ritualistic magic and thus just randomly named some conditions.

"Clean myself?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment, then looked at Linley Bart. "Come with me."

Half an hour later.

They had left the library and went to Elizabeth's house.

Her house was a castle.

This castle was very luxurious. It could be said that it was completely built according to the requirements of the royal family. However, this was only natural.

This was because Elizabeth was in fact a princess.

However, there was no one in this castle, not even the most basic servants. Thus, it seemed very empty inside.

But then again, it made sense as Elizabeth was a maniac in magic research.

She had even made a deal with demons for her magic research.

It would be best if there was no one at home.

In case anyone found out her secret.

In short, after arriving at home, Elizabeth became a bit different than when she was outside. As though she had become a princess, she even poured a cup of tea for Linley.

It was considered the most basic etiquette for entertaining guests, but it was usually done by maids.

Thinking of this, Linley Bart looked at Elizabeth.

If she could wear a maid costume, it would be quite an interesting sight.

"Are you thinking about something extremely disgusting? Linley Bart?"

He had been seen through.

"Your gaze is too direct."

"No way."

After pouring the tea, Elizabeth completely ignored Linley Bart and entered the bathroom to take a bath.

The bathroom was in her room with only a curtain separating her and Linley Bart.

She didn't plan on chasing Linley away either.

Instead, she started bathing.

She was not shy at all.

Was this the royal family?

"The tea is really quite good."

The atmosphere was rather awkward. Linley Bart wanted to try and break the ice.

If there was a treasure chest in front of him, it might be even better.

Unfortunately, there was not a single treasure chest in this castle.

Perhaps it was because there was usually no one here, nor was there any gathering of magical elements.

"I didn't expect you to know the art of tea brewing as well."

"I know a little about the art of brewing tea."

"The skills of the tea-brewer also play a crucial role, no?"

"Do you want me to praise you?"

"Your praise will only make me feel disgusted, so I'll pass."

"…"

"Tell me, how are you going to help me?"

"As I said, you have to save yourself."

Linley Bart thought for a moment before he said, "Let me tell you a story, Princess."

"Although I'm not very interested in the story you're telling me and there's a high chance that it's some obscene story, I don't have any other means of entertainment at the moment. Thus, it wouldn't hurt for me to listen for a while."
