Chapter 9 - Glimpses of a cold morning

It is difficult to tell someone your intentions. Especially when you don't know someone well, sophie wanted to know too much for someone who didn't know me well. So I asked her to leave the night before, it was uncomfortable to talk to her and for now the distance would help.

_I know I was rude but, I don't feel well with people around me asking me about my life all the time.

On the other end of the phone I was Cecile, guiding me in everything I did, especially with Sophie. In fact she was the only person with whom I had contact, in addition to working for me Cecile became a friend.

_Padawan young patience not everyone wants your evil. Let people know the best about you and not your story.

I sighed watching the rain fall outside.

_Your insecurity in people will end up killing you and you know it.

I sat on the edge of the bed with my hands over my face. The emptiness of the room gave me ideas, the cold outside gave me inspiration. However, none of that mattered for the time being.

_The publisher is on my feet, josh ... I can't believe it hasn't finished yet. They call me every half hour, need to have priorities or they will terminate the contract with you.

My silence caused hysteria in her. Maybe she was expecting a "ready" but it was more complex than that.

_I'll do my best Cecile ... just ask for more time.

His silence on the other side made me anxious.

_Do not step on the ball this time josh please.

The squeak after that said she had hung up. Time to start work, Sophie was a problem for later, now was the time to work. A few records and a record player would give me the perfect atmosphere, 5 minutes listening to a Frank Sinatra and my living room had turned into an old dance hall, full of soldiers accompanied by their girlfriends or wives. I was ready to continue the story.

Sayings of a rainy night

Chapter 12

Brands that bring peace.

Everyone was accompanied by his loved ones except James, his shyness had left him alone that night. Just watching the movement of people in that room with the smell of cigarettes and sweet feminine perfume. A sickening mix even for a soldier. He couldn't take it anymore, he needed to dance with someone or at least receive female attention, but the deformity in his face due to the bomb that will explode next to him, prevented him from meeting someone who really loved him. He stood up and took a deep breath but still felt uncomfortable. He noticed people looking at him but it didn't worry him, he looked around until he noticed a young woman with short curly hair, a smile from corner to corner sitting talking to some friends while drinking. Was that liquor? He thought when he saw the green color in her glass. For a moment the girl looked away from him and smiled, he returned but with fear, he was afraid that it would not be for him even more after all the hardship she received in life. People didn't want him around, his friends laughed at his appearance and made jokes, but after a while his nicknames don't matter anymore, his subconscious accepts that as if it were his name or a loving nickname said by a family member. James realized that there was no one behind him, and he realized that the beautiful girl's smile was for him. He was determined to go and talk to her, he took courage and after a few steps he approached the young stranger's table and said a good night.

_Good night ladies

As expected, James heard an echo from the mouth of one of the girls at the table, but not from the girl who smiled at him. Unlike all of them, she remained with the same wide smile and kept the same look on him.

_Do not give importance to my friend she is not familiar with ...

He interrupted, perhaps because he already knew what she was going to say.

_A monster ? I know I hear that a lot.

She smiles, she was about to surprise him for the first time with a simple compliment.

_U brave soldier.

James is amazed but he doesn't show it. He just smiles and extends his hand to greet her at that point. The friends of the unknown girl had already left the table, but she remained.

_James ... James Sullivan.

She extends a hand covered with a white glove of fine fabric and he kisses her palm.

_Mary MacKenzie..it's a pleasure, Mr Sullivan.

The two did not notice but kept their eyes connected at all times. It was almost impossible to divert their attention, James saw in her the sweetness of a magnificent human being. And Mary saw in him the soul that no one was able to observe, something pure, true and intense was born that day, something that would change their story forever.

I was interrupted by the phone that kept ringing. It was Vanessa from the publisher, she wanted to know about the book and apparently Cecile couldn't convince her to wait.

_Olha Vanessa I know of my delay but unfortunately I am not a machine of new ideas ...

His way of speaking on the other side did not appear to be friendly.

_Senhor reads feu we waited 2 months for the entry of this book and the deadline expired last week, or that book will be ready by midnight today or your contract with the publisher will be canceled in addition to the fine you will pay, be warned.

She didn't even give me a chance to explain herself, she was right, I know, but it's hard to write with a huge creative block that is hard to get out of. I tried to read all the best known books in the world, I searched for yoga rituals on the Internet to concentrate but it also didn't work, the only time I was almost there was exactly when I called. My only solution was to finish the book in my own way or else goodbye to the contract.
