Chapter 402 - Death traces. (2)

I really don't know if I can say that I reincarnated at a good time, this war didn't happen when I was already strong enough to participate directly in it or too weak to be sacrificed like a common soldier, I feel that my luck is not bad or good that makes my reality good now.

Leaving the underground base through a rune matrix I see how much the reality of the southern region has changed in these last few weeks, the large cities in the southern region have become army bases. Adventurers, mercenaries, soldiers and even civilians are only looking to war, the border may be far from the city we seem as it is closer to the center of the realm than the realm's border, but that doesn't seem to mean anything to those who live here.

I have seen many civilians packing their belongings to flee to another part of the kingdom while adventurers and mercenaries enjoy having the intention of going further to the south of the kingdom, those who seem to want to stay in this city are working to defend it, teams of builders are strengthening and repairing the damage that the roads and city walls have, but that's not the only construction projects in the city.

As a large city like this would be used as an important supply route for the war it is necessary that several warehouses be built as well as barriers through which the army will pass. Even though this city is relatively far from the war it can be a target of enemy kingdoms, the difficulty of invading the enemy kingdom with a small and large group, but this difficulty is not great enough to stop them from trying.

Destroying the supply line in the enemy kingdom can help in a lot of battles that involve a large number of soldiers, and as it only takes a few elites to do it the right way is a risky investment but it can work and help a lot.

I wonder how much the cities closest to the border are dealing with the declaration of war that was given without even a kind of warning foreseen, according to Raven the king of Kavenus was mine that an idiot and didn't even try to explain it to the temples who has affiliates in his realm, and declared that the culprit for all the shit that happened in Misfus was our realm and if they had been warned they would have dealt with the cultists in a better way.

It's easy to say when they didn't even know that such a large group of Whiro cultists had been living for so long in their realm, sacrificing an enormous number of civilians.

I really wanted to see the faces of these nobles when the number of victims of this cult was thrown in their face, even if it is not possible to know the exact number of victims, we can always make an approximation to emphasize how much the people of Kavenus suffered, because of incompetence of the nobles who should be protecting the civilians of this city.

Our group leave the city hiding our identity, the moment we step out of the city neither one of us would return to a city before killing or capturing the red sparrow, Raven left in a very implicit way if someone captured or helped her capture the sparrow red she would be very 'thankful' since the mission we were given only said that we had to kill the red sparrow.

During the next few days on the road, you don't hear anything different than what you've come to expect, but I have to admit that these magical beasts of the shadow element make great mounts. They are called moonlight drakes; they are really great for traveling at night not only do we not have to worry about the terrain at night but they emit a layer of concealment on their bodies.

Most of our traveling on the move is being done at night to take advantage of the drakes that have extra stamina, regeneration and strength at night, during the day we usually set up camps to watch the routes in the area and rest in shifts.

Even though the chance of finding something about our targets is very low since the red sparrow has the advantage of being in this area longer, we still keep our guard up. But knowing Raven, she's doing it for other reasons, she's looking for anyone who stands out on the road.

Raven may not have us ordered, but it's pretty clear that if she sees some groups acting suspiciously, she'll want to investigate them, in case they are bandits, people from the enemy kingdom or other problems for the kingdom will be eliminated by us.

But not one of these groups ended up showing up on our trip, if it weren't for the fact that we are traveling at night where the landscape during the trip ends up being hidden by darkness, I would believe I'm on a vacation trip through the southern region.

With no animals or magical beasts trying to attack us during the day, with not even a target in sight or a clue that we are being watched or followed, a very smooth trip is peaceful if it weren't for the fact that we're after a necromancer who leads a team of the dead. -undead and two death fighters that should not be common.

The peace of resting during the sunset waiting for the moment to begin our march held for days, but peace always comes to an end in a moment, especially when war is on the verge of beginning the fear and prey, I see on the faces of those that travel along the roads in the southern region is large, but not even of them notices the small spirit of a sparrow that traveled among the trees near the road that signals the existence of a terrible evil for all the living.

Yes, I finally saw an undead this is the first time I see one and he is very beautiful, the transparent body of the sparrow is really beautiful and it has a very interesting color the black color of the element of death is really small on the sparrow, the predominant color on him is a dark blue probably a type of mana concentrated by the undead body I wonder if the other undead are similar, after all a wraith has a very different body than a zombie or lich.

When I told Raven what I had found she was so happy I thought I had just told her to find divine resource and not an undead, but considering who Raven is.

She might actually prefer the chance to hunt a necromancer over a necromancer, she really hates that kind of mage, but despite her happiness she asked me if I was really sure I found a wraith.

According to her they are really hard to feel as their bodies are made of a lot of mana, which makes trackers find it difficult to track them when they are stationary or moving very quickly. Without having experience or a lot of skill it's hard to feel them from a great distance like I just 'feel', but when I explained how I felt about the wraith to Raven, she stopped doubting me and was happy again.

"What will we do now? Do we follow the wraith or do I try to track him down to try to figure out the direction he came from? The problem with this last option is that it is difficult to do this without alerting or destroying the wraith."

"We have to choose the safest option, Wolf. I didn't think I would need to remind a hunter like you that patience is one of the most important factors in a hunt, keep watching the wraith at all times. If he doesn't move, I want to know exactly where he's going, and keep us out of his sight you remember what I taught you about them."

"Yes, they have limited vision, but they can still perceive the movements of living beings, so it's best that everyone wears the insulating covers to prevent him from being able to see our energy easily. And I must keep the group at a great distance without losing the wraith of our vision as he appears to be shaped like a bird, he should be fast but not fast enough to outrun us."

"But we do have the problem that our mounts are quite large and the wraith can notice them even from afar without a good shadow element cape, if he only moves before dark, we might have trouble following him. In case he starts to move now I must follow him without using the mounts and without the group, only a shadow element warrior can follow me hiding in both."

"Well, it seems your memory is good enough to remember what you were taught a few days ago. Are you right about what to do in case the wraith escapes before dark, we are both more than enough to follow him and I will leave a trail so the drakes can follow us after dark."

"Everyone gets ready, tonight we're going to hunt a necromancer."
