During the way back to the base I monitored the Fim's situation with my eyes, the elemental energy that was killing him has a very unusual behavior when I didn't feel any kind of threat to his existence.
When I did my best to be able to delay the petrification in Fim's body, the elemental life energy would hide in the earth element energy and come out after my lightning element energy wore off, with nothing to stop it would ferociously attack and devour the force. Fim vital as a bloodthirsty beast.
But now it is quite different, both the earth element energy and the life element energy are spreading like roots through the body of the Fim and not simply devouring and expanding like a wave of elemental energy. Petrification had traveled deep through Fim's body like reeds penetrating the ground, it had penetrated and circled through Fim's heart, but its efforts to expand were elsewhere.
Petrification has focused its growth downwards from Fim's heart, it has taken root all the way to the end of Fim's stomach a little while longer the petrification will descend to his legs, but the petrification has not attacked Fim's bone only his flesh.
His ribs or spine doesn't have even an iota of magical beast earth elemental energy, even the life element energy that accompanies the earth element has only absorbed the vitality of Fim's flesh and his speed is not as great as I expected, I found that it would increase faster.
At this point I expected that half of Fim's body was already petrified, we are arriving in the city now and heading straight for the base.
In the infirmary of the Nolan base, Tania and Fim were treated and examined by the team of healers. On that basis there is a very versatile team, light, life, water, fire and death to all the elements that can treat the wounded without the mental element.
Nolan was already quite the healer with the water element and life wanted to treat his skin to avoid any unwanted scarring on him.
Tania's treatment was much more serious for the healers as her wound is more complicated to treat as the damage, I caused her was really great. The treatment was almost as painful as mine, the flesh and bone regenerating and regaining is pretty intense on Tania's nerves, the faster the energy and energy expended by the healers the better chance Tania has her arm fully recovered, but it also makes cause her pain to be a few times greater than it should be.
But since being conscious wasn't necessary Tania was drugged to black out for the next few hours, when she wakes up the pain in her arm will be much more manageable for her.
Fim who in my opinion was doomed to death had a glimmer of salvation, and it is unusual for a death element mage to specialize in healing and treatments, but on that basis to one of them. The healer who has the element of death and water has the best chance to fight the magic beast's life element, when the life element healer was examining the body of Fim I saw that his life element was attacked and devoured by the beast's life element magic.
When the healer duo realized the exact nature of the damage to Fim's body, the healer with the death element created a dark liquid that had a high concentration of the death element and a little bit of the water element. She used this liquid to attack the element of wildlife from two different sides, pouring the water out of Fim's mouth and her using her element of death on the outside in the form of needles, the life and earth element of the magic beast was attacked directly.
Unfortunately, when this happened the Fim organs were negatively affected by the two opposing elemental energies, when the life element energy touched the death element it exploded into savagery attacking and devouring everything that was close to it. Fim's body started to wither from the inside out due to the lack of vital energy, his skin that was turning yellow from petrification turned dark and withered, it was as if Fim's trunk was aging at a visible speed.
An epic combat that was visible because of my eyes was a great lesson on how two healers of different elements heal the same victim as a team, even with the opposing elements the life and death element of the healers didn't get in the way of the other.
These two are quite used to working as a duo, but unfortunately their enemy was much stronger and had a lot of advantage compared to the two green-core healers.
Petrification took over most of Fim's heart trying to kill him, when his heart was more than 80% petrified Fim woke up and began to struggle as if he were drowning. The pain he must be feeling has him waking up from his past-out state, but I think his shortness of breath is caused by his two lungs also being petrified.
After Fim's heart was attacked by the magical beast's elemental energy it didn't heat up for long. Even with the great efforts of the healers, the Fim died.
After his death both healers stopped struggling with the elemental anergy within Fim's body, the life element energy within him completely merged with the earth element energy and Fim's corpse was completely petrified.
The healer moved away from the patients and went to Ana who was by my side watching the healer's work.
"Ana, I'm so sorry we couldn't save the boy. What kind of enemy did you find? It's the first time I've had to fight this kind of elemental energy, if I hadn't read about similar cases like this that involve the life element in this way, I would have no idea where I would start treatment."
"We found a unique level three magic beast, all three of them were wounded by them, but Fim was the only one whose wound went so deep that we won't be able to try to destroy it on the battlefield."
"In the forest?! There shouldn't be that kind of magic beast in the region. Perhaps she came from the swamp, there are historical records of unusual magical beasts appearing in the swamp from time to time. What did this magical beast look like?"
"We faced a bunch of lizards that had green and brown scales, but the magical beast that caused so much trouble had the ability to transform, when we first saw her, she was pretending to be a victim and how she was covered in a mage's cloak large we can only notice that she had a human arm and a female voice."
"I didn't see her when she changed to her combat form, Ulric was closer here. What you saw?"
"She was in a state of transformation, her skin was no longer human and her claws were showing and didn't look much like the other lizards, but her skin was starting to crack into small pieces so it wouldn't be strange for her skin to turn to scales. She had tendrils of dirt coming out of her entire body that turned over the dirt projects that hit the three members of our team."
"Unfortunately, I couldn't see her physical appearance under the cloak that was being torn."
The healer with the death element looked at me with a lost gaze, she was thinking deeply about my description of the magical beast.
"This is very unusual; I've read the historical accounts recorded on this base that show that certain unusual magical beasts appear in the region. The army has investigated this event before anything else that they discovered that the magical beasts came from the swamp."
"But not one account showed a magical beast like the one you faced, and it's normal for a strong beast or one with unusual elements for the region, but neither one fits the level of power your magical beast seems to have. We have to send a report to headquarters, as far as I can remember an orange core mage was in charge of investigating the swamp several decades ago, he must want to come and investigate this magical beast."
"Don't worry about it, Morgana. I'm going to report to central now, I was just waiting to see what would happen with End."
"Okay, I'll stay here. After the girl is treated, I will meet you to tell you how her treatment was."
Ana left the infirmary but not before giving me an order.
"Ulric, go find the rest of the group and tell them to be silent, no one should know about what happened in the forest today. We can't let a rumor about an out-of-control magic beast spread here, try to get some rest now because it's very likely that we'll both be sent to the forest again later today to hunt the magic beast, such a unique beast will be targeted of an urgent capture mission."
"I see, I will pack my gear and try to eat and rest a little before the capture team is assembled."
It seems my day is far from over, having a good rest time will be nice before heading back to the forest but I doubt it will be easy to track down this beast that must be fleeing into the swamp which seems to be the source of mysteries and region's problems.
