Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Hostage Situation

Todd's Pov

I've never seen Kai acted this way around non-humans, as if they have done something wrong for him to cuss at them. First its Magic users and now it's the races in this harsh world… This is getting out of hand!

"Kai, we need to talk!" I barred his way, I'm seeing that he is no mood to prolong it, but I need to know now. "What the hell is your problem?"

Kai is pushing me through, ignoring the fact I am asking a question. I could pull rank on him… knowing that would make a situation worse than it needs to be. Got it!

"Kai, do you really anything that is not human?" I asked him a question which Kai glares at me.

"Yo man! It ain't none of your business!" He continues to push past me, but I'm not budging. "What the HELL, man?!"

"Tell me why you hate magic as well, the enhanced and mutants?" I demand an answer to my question. "You lost a family number/Girlfriend or something?"

"Nah, I lost my brother to those freaks that call them mutants. He got killed when he sacrificed his life to save mine! He saved mine!" Kai beats his chest as he explained some of his reasons he hated non-humans.

"What does it have to do with now?" I continued to press on the topic.

"Forget about it." He pushed me out of the way as we continued to the building where the terrorists holed up.

The plan to deal the criminals

After speaking with the guards to learn that these criminals were unsatisfied with the Angel's Food and Inn service. They took hostages including the Mayor's daughter, and the Mayor knows them personally, the Heskitt gang are rowdy and causing trouble and to be starting trouble but usually out of respect for the mayor, they conduct their business and go but in this case; it started when the manager tried to kick them out and shot one of their boys.

I can tell that guy stirred up a hornet nest which the criminals started taking hostage and as well setup bombs for anyone trying to arrest them.

"Mayor! Let's head in and take them out!" I state my intent, but I saw the Mayor frowned upon hearing it.

"You're going guns blazing? On the chance of getting those people killed?" She questions my intent on walking straight into the building. "They have magic users in the gang, and they have set up explosives inside the damn place."

"But we need to do something!" Kai walks straight to my face.

"Look, man! The freak has a point! You ain't thinking straight, and you ain't using your head on this." Kai said to me. "What happens if you bust in there and start shooting up the place? Let's say, you get inside and talk to them… Then what, man?"

"I can work my magic with them, perhaps, I can strike a deal with them?" I suggested I can persuade them.

"They don't know you, Kid. These guys are not your average Joe criminals." The mayor points that my decision is too reckless and not thought through enough. "For being a team leader of this squad, your impulsive thinking will get many people killed and If they get killed because of you…" She walks closer to me to hammer home her point. "The alliance is over."

She… She is right.

"That is why I propose a creative solution to this situation that we in." Ronald comes in with… Maps of the building and notebook.

"Ronald…" I shake my head upon seeing this. "This is not the time for a planning session."

"Lt. Captain, I have promised Coldman that I would serve as your intelligence officer. I can offer a strategy that reduce or save the lives of the hostages. Also, I took the time to speak with one hostage that escaped using her magic before the hostage situation began." Ronald motions for one of the employee's that worked in Angel's

The woman was shaking out of her wits. Her uniform has some scratches on it and her hair is free-flowing. But despite all of that, she keeps herself calm and recognizes the mayor.

"Oh… M-Mayor Chelsea! It is good to see you." The woman shook hands with the mayor.

"Ma'am, any information that you can provide would be helpful. We'll get those hostages out." Sirena assured her with her smile.

"Miss Gargal. We need your input on this as we will need to rescue these people".

Infiltrating the Angel's Food and Bar

As Ronald goes into detail with the game plan, we have information on the threat we are dealing with:

The Heskitt gang took control of the entire building. There are 25 of them, some carrying big guns which are the heavy hitters, some of them are known to be agile with a bladed weapon and their extremely dangerous close range. But the most dangerous elements of this gang are snipers and their weavers who can wield magic.

The minute we go in, their lookouts and weavers can detect anyone going in. If they sense someone entered the building, they will kill themselves, but not before taking the hostages with them by their explosive, magic or gun. A frontal assault will be suicide, not only putting the hostage in danger.

They place the explosives on the lower, 2nd, 4th and 6th floors. If triggered, one of them can level a city block; all of them will destroy the entire city. A triggerman will be close by when near the explosives, and they connect by Radio.

Weavers, however, they can teleport around the building and they can detect anyone enter the building in case if they somehow got past their lookouts. One of them can alert their leader and they can be difficult to kill.

However, they are reasonable to a point since they stated their demands loud and clear: Free food for him and his boys, safe passage out of the city but only that. They will only talk to the mayor, no one else. Thankfully, they didn't place a time limit, but they are wary of anyone trying to enter.

"Now we understand the situation we are dealing, my colleagues." Ronald pulls out his notes and goes over what he wrote. "Todd, go with the Mayor."

"You heard those guys, they know, and they will speak to me only. Anyone will-"

"Not if you bring Todd into the discussion, Todd has experience with dealing with hardened criminals. Tell him not to bring anything that may assemble as weapons, they will be more amendable than he is packing heat." Ronald walks over and stretch out his hands to me. "I will need your revolvers, prove to this team… That we can trust you to handle negotiations."

I look at Ronald as he said those words… First; he calls me a mistake now he is trusting me to do this. I hate to part with my babies since they have saved my life more times to count.

"Take care of them" I told them as handed them over to him.

"You and the mayor will be Team 1- Handle negotiations." I determined which team should handle each role. "While Team 2- Me, Kai, Sirena and Miss Gargal-"

"Call me Casey!" The woman speaks up. "Also, I can camouflage and misdirect enemies as we go."

"Never thought we would get help from… a hot chick with powers." Kai made a comment at Casey, much to the latter's chagrin.

"Kai!" Sirena yelled after him, much to our laughter.

"Okay…" Ronald calms him after having a merry laugh. "Team 2 will disarm the bombs with the building, but we'll until you get in."

"I can go with Team 2, since 3 people on negotiations will be overkill." Sirena nods at Ronald's decision.

"Are you ready, Captain?" He asked me, but I'm ready to begin.

"Okay, team! Chelsea, you're with me. I am counting on you to help me out." I stated to Chelsea to vouch for me as we head to the barricade.
