Chapter 39: Intense
Wheels echo down the hallway.
Aibek is beside me colouring into some notebook, his white eyes drawn into an expression of focus.
'I'm sketching your friend.' Aibek comments.
I turn and face him. 'Which one'.
'The Jabali.'
Jabali? Who's that.
'The pink haired one Uriel. In my culture the word Jabali means strength of a rock,'
'That fits Uriel. She has always been the tough one.'
'Dont doubt yourself Tier.' Aibek looks at me for the first time and the tone of the conversation drastically changes.
'You need to heal first then lead later tier. Remember you succeeded in saving your friends you just need a new path now.'
My throat swells and I merely nod not trusting myself to form a sentence.
Aibek puts down the notebook as footsteps sound down the hall.
I follow his line of sight and spot Will dragging Varian towards us.
Varian's appearance is a mess. His black hair is splayed at different angles. His eyes have deep purple bags and his knuckles are scabbed over.
Will is admonishing him but I cant make out anything specific over the heightening wind.
Peter hovers behind them and as we meet eyes nothing but anguish radiates in them.
Grayth loiters behind Peter his eyes centered on Varian and Will ahead.
Thank god his weight looks healthy now but his mask is strapped tightly over his mouth. A reminder of how much he doubts his control over his power.
As Will nods at me and pushes Varian through the door I get up to follow.
This Flighter mission takes priority over all the drama. We must gather info on Collings and other institutes.
If we don't find a way to stop our people being used like bait, then we will have no future. We have no choice but to take control before the entities or worse do.
But can it be done?
