''Thank you.'' Felix closed the door to his room, after they had the rather long talk he was leading up to a room, given a key then Alex left.
Once he was in the room he looked around a bit, it was a pretty good room, better than the one he had at the orphanage. It had a single large bed, a chest, a large desk with paper, and what looked to be a pen, along with a wardrobe and another door.
Walking into the other room he found a large bathtub without any spout for water, it must be for bathing. Magical water was safe to drink and cook with, but most used it as a means to bath, if he used a water spell, a heat spell, and a cleansing spell afterward he could have a magical bathtub.
However, if that's the case it might be a bit harder for those who don't know how to cast magic, a good source of coin might be to find a way to make it accessible to others.
Closing the door he moved to the desk, it was only noon but he had nothing to do other than to study. Setting the books onto the desk he first pulled out anything he had on magic, he then took out the small paper that Alex has said if he had a Banker, this is how he could find it. He had already been assured that the room was built for privacy so not even the Guild master could hear or see what's going on in the rooms unless the owner of the room gave him permission.
Having a lie detector was really useful, looking at the note he said he simply had to read it, but the thing is it said he had to say his full name to activate it, he didn't know if he had the last name as an orphan but he always had his own. He then stood and went to the middle of the room before he spoke.
''Banker of my line, I Felix Ryver call upon you like those with my blood before I once did.''
He looked around a bit but he didn't see anything different, he sighed before he sat down once more to prepare to study. However, as he sat down he looked to the desk, and before him was a floating orb.
And when Alex said it was dark, he must mean Vantablack, the orb before him seemed to absorb the light around it, making it actually hard to see. He just kind of stared at it before he asked. ''Are you my Banker?''
It bobbed up and down.
''If you're this dark, you must be pretty old?''
It went down to lift his hands, once it did it placed down one of his fingers, making him hold up nine.
After some thought, he quickly went through numbers before he just asked. ''Were you the Ninth Banker?''
The orb floated up and down
''That's cool.... Can I ask a few questions?'' The orb bobbed.
''If I ordered you to, could you steal something?'' The orb went side to side, he assumed that meant no.
''If I steal something, can you store it?'' It bobbed up and down
''Your storage, does it have restrictions on when it can be used?'' It once more floated up and then down.
''Is it combat-related?'' It went up and down.
''Is it just the storage that's combat-related?'' It bobbed up and down.
''Do you have a limit on how much you can store?'' It floated to the pen, circling around it. Picking it up the orb entered his hand, then he felt like something was trying to move his hand. Allowing it to it began to write on a piece of paper.
~Yes. Too long without mana. Limited.~
''How big is your current limit?''
~Size of the chest in the room. Let me Support you. Will grow again.~
''Can you explain a bit more about the storage?''
~Can't be used while energy is fluctuating strongly. Can't be used unless calm. Can't be used often.~
''So either way I should still learn storage magic, you're more for luggage?''
~Yes.~
''Do you have anything in your storage right now?''
~One thing in available storage. The more I grow, the more that I can access again.~
''So the old stuff you had in you isn't lost, just not accessible yet?''
~Yes~.
''Are your other abilities still fine?''
~Yes.~
''Does time pass in your storage?''
~No.~
That's good thought Felix, it meant he could put things he needed to preserve into it.
''What's the one thing in your storage, is it safe to bring out?''
~Yes.~
Afterward, a book seemed to appear beneath his palm, setting the pen down he pulled the book up and looked at it, seeing no words he opened it, inside it was a few entries to a journal, before explaining magic. ''An early magic?'' After he read a bit his eyes became wide. ''I don't know how rare this kind of thing is, but this seems pretty broken?''
It was 'Mind' magic, it kind of reminded him of having a mind palace, the first thing it listed was making it so you could access your memories, and gain increased memory in it, basically photographic memory on steroids.
Looking a bit into the description it said it was basically for people who needed to be able to study quickly, store information, and be able to keep it in folders so to speak.
Actually, the funny thing is it didn't seem too hard, it simply stated that to begin the process is the study something while supplying mana to the mind slowly. He completely forgot about his banker as he began to study the plant book while doing as the journal instructed.
------Three Hours Later------
"This is... pretty cool, it doesn't work for any memories or pictures I seen beforehand, it makes them easier to bring up and clearer, but that's it. But now I have a perfect recollection.'' He was leaned back in his chair, he had read the entirety of the plant book, having had to go through it a few times before he felt like his mind was releasing a lock, he even heard the sound of a lock clicking open when he noticed he could do it now.
He didn't even need to close his eyes, he could bring up what he needed to. He could even make it so that when he saw something he brought up a mental note with it, giving a basic description of it.
He didn't see the sticky note, more imagined it but it was useful. Especially when he had to remember people, faces, their names, everything he observed he could recall later perfectly.
It even increased his reading speed, he could flip through pages, but due to the bent paper, it came up strange in his mind so he instead just slowly flipped through all the books.
It wasn't until another two hours had passed and it was dinner time that he started eating jerky, he didn't forget he could get a free meal, but these rations weren't going to last, and he'd much rather but better food than jerky into his storage to save it so he decided to get rid of it now, feeding the wolf as well who had been sleeping beneath his feet, kind of like a stool. After it ate it just went right back to sleep like it could do it on demand.
He had memorized all the books he had, including the new mind magic one, but the next spell or magic in it was about building a defense it bluntly said it may take months no matter how good he was, so he decided to practice slowly, he wanted a proper defense after all. Can't have people digging around in his head for his secrets.
Though, would anyone actually do that? He can't just base his life around the interactions he's had so far, but maybe he's being too overly cautious? Granted it wouldn't hurt no matter what, but maybe he should try to be more friendly?
Either way, he's learned having the ability to remember anything you wanted to is definitely useful, especially for magic study, no matter what he would still need to put in the work for it and try his best, but not having to lug around massive books? A plus.
The only magic that got much easier with, is rune magic because it only required knowing the rune, and basically a 'limit' for how much magic you wanted the rune to draw. If runes were this easy to learn, why wasn't everyone carrying a magical weapon? Well come to find out, it wasn't that easy for most people.
One, most had to spend hours drawing the rune, again and again before they even started to attempt to set a mana limit. Only Felix was a strange commodity, to have an amazing memory, talent, and being able to see mana made him basically a master at it. Of course, he knew nothing on how to write his own runes, but runes he could make, or find the examples of? Easy.
He even tried to put a rune on his bed that helped him rest easier, it was apart of a rune series called ''Lifestyle'' runes. Basically just to make life easier for everyone.
His mistake? He cleaned himself and put his gear away in his storage before he laid on the bed. He didn't even have a chance to fight it, he passed out instantly.
