Chereads / Evolving Village / Chapter 31 - Nirl

Chapter 31 - Nirl

Alain's village.

The raid had finally ended without any casualties on Alain's side, and even the influenced people managed to recover their spirits.

As for the system...

[Return to Nirl to inherit the system completely]

Alain's village was, after all, only a small part of the system, being a personal reward. Thus, no change could be made there, but rather, Alain would have to go back to Nirl for it to fully inherit the system.

In a sphere was 12-years-old-looking Alain.

''Couldn't you have evolved here? Given your skills, it should be possible.''

[That's true. But don't get me wrong, I wasn't made for Alain]

''... Whatever''

'Isn't giving him a chance to escape from reality the very proof that you care for him?'

Deciphering his thoughts the system replied [Help others... wasn't that the original purpose of all systems?]

''Living for others... I will never understand it''

[Haha, don't worry, I'm not like him.]

'But aren't you doing the same right now?' The system thought 'You can tell whatever you want, and may even believe it. But even without a soul or a body, you're helping others. Isn't that selfless ?'

'You probably only have one goal right now: free yourself. But one may not think the same. He may think you aren't living for yourself. That's why actions aren't all. Living for others... I'm not stupid enough to do that.'

He watched this Alain.

'Humans really are poor things. Fortunately, there are still lights. Lights that make one life worth living. Or so I hope'

Nirl

Although the village didn't seem to have changed much these last few months, it did change. thinking otherwise would be only casting a hasty glance.

Since Alain entered his coma, the strength of the village had only increased.

Eloise no longer hesitated and increased the number of forestry expeditions, which allowed the villages to gains many resources and recruit help from Cleppe.

Despite the increasing number of raids, the village held out quite well having only lost about ten inhabitants.

These had been replaced by slaves, of whom there were now 70, a huge number. To tell the truth, they were a bit problematic as they didn't need so much. But they couldn't really turn down slaves, nor would they. So Louis set up a plan to increase the economic power of the village.

Train the slaves and sell the worst ones. Of course, they weren't monsters and would sell them with their family.

Since Nirl's economy relied mainly on the financial help and their wine production, Louis wanted to diversify the income as a security measure.

In any case, training the slaves was a necessity. Not only would they be able to help them fight, but their work would also become way more effective, as would their sense of belonging to the village increase.

...

Resting after a day's work, two slaves were talking to each other.

''How can such a remote place have so much strength?''

''It's isn't that they are particularly strong, it's just that our tribes were particularly weak...''

He briefly thought of his tribe being vanquished and put in slavery. then, he remembers the discrimination his people had suffered because they were weak, and ''barbarians''.

Fortunately, thoughts were different in remote areas. Or maybe it was because they were constantly facing death that they thought like that?

'It doesn't matter much now I guess'

'' You're right, though Eloise, Louis, and Emily are exceptions.''

'' Yeah, that's a bit strange that people like them would be there''

''Apparently, this village comes from the first age''

''Seriously? That explains why !''

''Well, I thought so too, but that's not the main reason.''

''Huh? What it is ?''

''You've heard about Alain, right?''

''Yeah, the village Chief of Nirl, though he is still in coma''

The other nodded.

''He, Eloise, and Louis were problematic little kids. From what I understood, Louis even ran away from home several times as a child, giving no respect to adults and being associable. ''

A frown emerged from the other slave. Filial piety, as well as respect, were extremely important to the tribe's men.

''He, fortunately, changed at 14 years old, and so did Alain and Eloise. At that time they had gone to the forest and being close to death changed them.

''That's how you become a man after all.''

...

Nirl - church.

Alain's body, which was still in a coma a second ago, began to move.

''I'm back'' he smiled.

At the same time, Eloise, Louis, and Emilie heard a voice in their head.

Alright, that put an end to the introduction.

Evolving Village has 4 to 5 mains characters whose you can easily found as they've got the Evolving Village system.

To tell the truth, I didn't expect to develop Rodolphe and Manon this much, and Louis was originally meant to be a more ambiguous and cowardly character, not hesitating to leave the village on several occasions, although Eloise and Alain would have believed in him. I would have liked to make him a little less interesting at first, but I guess his characteristics made him an easy person to develop.

On the contrary, Emilie is sorely lacking in development.

I consider the other 'Alain' interesting, and he wasn't originally planned.

Ages: at the beginning of the story, Louis was 37, Alain 35, Eloise 34, and Emilie 25. Michael was 59, Manon 32 and Rodolphe 8. But a year has passed since then.

Knowledge: Emilie, unlike Eva, is particularly well trained, and is teaching the children to read and write.
