Chapter 14 - Trouble never lets up. (1)

They continue walking and find an old and little-used trail, as can be seen by the size of the bush. Soon after walking they are taken by surprise by a deserted village in the middle of the forest, with a few huts of wood and straw on the ground and others on the treetops. They look one by one and they were as empty as if they had just left them.

- Do you think, what took our friends might have taken people away from here? - Axel looks at Nyara thoughtfully. - Where is everyone?

- I don't know, it seems there was no fighting. I found hot food in some of the huts. It's like I just ran away.

Axel looks around, feeling a presence and sees a figure next to Nyara, which was a guy with a bow. Miss Nyara get down! - He pulls Nyara down and frees her from taking the arrow.

- Well, I wonder where the people of the village are and there they are, warrior. - He says as they are surrounded by elven archers aiming at them.

- We are not enemies, we come in peace, we are after our friends.

- Put down your weapons! - says a tired voice.

- Chief, they are with the Harpies! We must kill them before they call for the Harpies.

- Gee, wherever I go I get a great reception. - Nyara laughs and Axel looks at her with a frown.

- Be quiet before things get worse for us. We come in peace, we're after our missing friends. They were attacked and disappeared into the forest.

- If they disappeared into the forest it's too late for them, the Harpies got them.

- Harpies?

- Come here, it's not safe, let's go to my hut. - He leads the way and Axel and Nyara follow him with armed archers at his back, still very suspicious. The chief of the small village leads them to his hut which was up in the tree up the wooden stairs and they enter the house which is a simple hut with few wooden furniture, a table in the center with some wooden benches, a bed of straw they and the old man tells them to sit down.

- Come on old man, tell us about these harpies.

- Our small village is a peaceful one, we don't like war.

- Old man, don't beat around the bush and tell us this story.

- Miss Nyara, be quiet! Excuse me, sir, but my traveling companion is a little irritable. - Nyara shows her tongue and turns her face away and Axel and the village chief begin to laugh.

- As I was saying our village lived in peace, but a few years ago the harpies came and took over a certain area of the forest so they started attacking my people. They are taking our people and eating them. We tried to counterattack but it was useless. Now we stay in hiding.

Soon the conversation is interrupted when screams are heard and the sounds of fighting begin. Nyara and Axel leave the house and see a group of harpies flying over the village and the archers attacking without success. One of the harpies looks at them and goes towards him and attacks with its claws and Axel defends himself with his sword and Nyara takes advantage and attacks with a punch and stuns the harpy.

- Miss Nyara, let's take advantage of the situation and help them.

- Why? They almost got us killed.

- Miss Nyara...

- Aff, I'm only going because it will help us find the others. - She jumps and falls on the harpy and she clips the harpy's wings and goes to the ground. - Hey you silly chickens, look here I'm hotter than these elves. - She attacks with a fireball on the wings of one that was trying to take a girl.

The Harpies become enraged and fly towards Nyara with their weapons in hand, not noticing Axel and a group of archers preparing to shoot on his command. The closers are quick and hit their target with precision which was their wings but some manage to dodge. Then Nyara raises her hands and starts to make a movement that looks like she's using a bow, then around her it starts to sizzle and a lightning bow appears and then an arrow appears and she smiles and shoots. It goes whizzing and before it hits, it splits into little arrows that hit and knock down the remaining harpies.

- Now the big finale. Fire Serpent! - She touches the ground and a trail of fire goes in the direction of the enemy and when it touches it burns, but even so the leader of the group manages to escape quite wounded, Nyara sighs tired and listens to the people celebrating until a voice makes everyone shut up-

- You are crazy, you think that when the others find out we won't be retaliated against, they will kill us all. - One of the older villagers walks up to her in anger. Next to him others agree. -

- Such gratitude, we help them and they spit in their faces. Elves don't change no matter where they are.

- Miss Nyara...

- I speak the truth, warrior.

- They are afraid and that makes them act this way.

- That is the worst thing in people's nature and I am witness to it, fear makes people do stupid things, worse than that is greed. - She turns away from the confusion and Axel follows her.

- Where are you going, Miss Nyara?

- To the mountains, the harpies came from that direction. - She points the way to him. - I smelled Arkini's cloying scent from one of the bodies. Their trail comes from there.

- Let's call the people in the village.

- You didn't listen to the old man, they are of peace, that means they don't know how to organize, how to fight or follow orders. The two of us are worth more than 20 of them. - Axel smiles at her and follows her - Maro, wake up, I need a favor from you. - Nyara's pocket jerks up and Maro comes out and lands on her shoulder.

- Speak Nyara.

- Fly and look for the others, there must be some energy trail or full of Sarah. When you find them, let me know. Be careful!

- I will. - Maro flies off and the two of them keep walking. -

When they reach the mountain the two of them look at the great height and begin to climb without prey and looking to see if there was no harpy and look for an entrance. Soon she stops as she looks into a bat cave.

- Wait Knight!

- What is it Miss Nyara?

- Let's go in this way. - He stops and turns back to her, she points to something and he sees a small one. -

- Miss, this is too small for me. I don't know if you'll come in too.

- Fool, I'll widen the entrance. This mountain is full of tunnels the Harpies have taken as their home. I can smell rottenness coming from the hole.

- Aren't you suffering from magical exhaustion? Why are you still using magic?

- I recover faster than a wizard. I'm not at full strength but I can do small spells. - She touches the entrance and speaks a few magic words and widens the entrance with earth magic to pass one person at a time.

- I go in front. - He enters the hole and she follows him muttering. -

- Yes sir, Knight in shining armor.

- Did you say something?

- No sir... - She smiles and enters-
