"He is still unconscious, sir." Nendi Sameya's personal assistant reported to him as he sat down on his plush office chair. He faced the see through glass that gave him a view of the bustling streets below his building, sipping on a cool drink.
"I see..." He said slowly, twirling the glass of juice in his hand. "I should have known. First a sentient clone, that was just miraculously able to pilot mechs, and then that same clone went on to become a pilot with an S-Grade aptitude. Who knew my research institute would birth an expert pilot?" He chuckled lowly.
"That is all. You may leave, Sendra." He waved away his loyal secretary from the room. She dipped her head in acknowledgement before turning on her heels and leaving the room. Nendi remained sitting, his eyes gazing into the distance.
"Is he a Friend or Foe?"
...
"He still hasn't shown any signs of waking up." Doctor Freya mumbled to herself as she watched the telemetry that was transmitted back to the monitoring room of the most popular clone on the planet.
It had been several days since the harrowing battle in space, and the planetary government was trying to stabilize surface operations. Several scouting ships had been sent out into space to keep an eye out for any follow up mantis attacks. This last one had really caught them off guard for after so long without a battle against the Mantis scum.
After the final shot that destroyed the frigate was taken by Maximiler, he had immediately lost consciousness. Roman had noticed this, and with great care, approached the drifting rifleman mech, towing it back to the distant space station.
A team of experienced medics were waiting for him in the hangar bay, and immediately removed Maximiler from his damaged mech, taking him for further check ups and whatever treatment would be necessary. The telemetry that they had received from his mech showed that his brain activity was so high that his head should have exploded, covering the cockpit of his mech in disgusting brain matter!
It was a miracle that he was alive, but considering Maximiler's track record ever since he showed up, then it seemed miracles would become normal as long as this sentient clone was involved!
Jacob stood to the side, his heavy rifle hanging from his hip holster, as it usually did. He had been reassigned as Freya's guard for the time being, at least, until Maximiler woke up.
Just then, the console in front of Freya beeped loudly. The two occupants of the room perked up as they stared at the charts.
*Beep* *Beep*
The chart that showed Maximiler's brain activity began to wobble as his previously stable brain activity began to climb. Freya responded sharply, her decades of experience coming to pay off. She expertly manipulated the high tech console, bringing up a more detailed chart. Jacob just stared, unable to understand a single thing that showed on it. To him, it was all lines and numbers!
"The patient is showing signs of increased brain activity, he is slowly coming out of his three day long coma." Freya began to mutter into the small recorder that she always carried with her. She always went over her clips whenever she was in her office, in order to properly document them into the research institute's database.
She went over the standard procedures for a few more moments before turning off the recorder. She looked through the glass that separated the two rooms, at Maximiler's stirring body before picking up her security card that hung around her neck. She shot a look to Jacob before turning and walking to the door that led into the ward.
Waving the card over the scanner, the door let out a beep before sliding open and granting the aunt and nephew passage. Inside, Maximiler was surrounded by a host of high tech medical equipment. The research institute sure didn't hold out on their first and only Expert Pilot. Even the Planetary Government's military only had five of them at this point in time, although none of them had participated in the battle against the mantis for reasons unknown.
Freya and Jacob stopped a couple meters away from the bed, keeping their distance just in case Maximiler lashed out for any reason. There had been plenty of cases of doctors getting stabbed by patients who had just experienced a trauma. Although they trusted Maximiler to a certain extent, that was not a reason for them to be careless with their lives.
The both of them took in the changes that had occurred to Maximiler during the fight against the mantis. His previously snow white hair now features streaks of red running through them, and his once soft, baby like face had hardened. The difference was very minute, but the detection tools of the research institute were easily able to pick up on this difference. A new identity card was even been created for Maximiler.
Five minutes into waiting, the patient finally began to show signs of stirring awake. His eyes slowly opened, revealing his glassy green eyes. He stared up at the white ceiling for a few moments before turning his head to the side where Freya and Jacob stood.
"Am I alive?" He asked with a small smile. Jacob broke into a grin while Freya smiled lightly. It seemed that Maximiler wasn't experiencing an episode after his experiences.
"Most certainly, Maximiler. Welcome back." Freya stepped forward, her clipboard in hand, with Jacob at her side. "How do you feel?" She asked, already holding her pen over he clipboard. She preferred to write things down herself, instead of just recording them with the help of technology. Maximiler had no idea why, but he kept his opinion to himself.
"Like I got run over by a mantis frigate... Please tell me we won." He groaned as he sat up, the white sheets pooling at his waist and exposing his chest.
"Well, you won us the battle. And brought out research institute some very concrete benefits along with it. So, tell me, how does it feel to be an expert pilot?"
